Vocoustics Presents:
Esperi + The Family Simpson + Ashley Park
The Music Club (52-54 Langstane Place)
Wednesday 29th October
3 from 8pm
Esperi, from Dundee, center around Scottish artist Chris Lee-Marr and present an alt-pop noise branded as "glock and roll" or "Scottish folk-ish music." On his own Esperi is a deep tranquil experience with an alternative folk sound. With the full band the sound has a more jazzy feel.
The Family Simpson sometimes sound as beautiful as lemonade soaking through a summer dress. at other times they sound like a kettle being thrown around in a fridge. MySpace.com - The Family Simpson - Stonehaven, UK - Acoustic / Alternative / Experimental - www.myspace.com/thefamilysimpson
Ashley Park influences sush as Elliot Smith and Mark Eitzel makes for infectious chord progressions and down-tempo melancholic folk-pop.
MySpace.com - Ashley Park - UK - Acoustic - www.myspace.com/ashleypark5
[NOTE: Originally Oldseed (from Canada) was booked (as advertised in flyers) but he had to cancel due to not organising a VISA properly!]

bump for sunday
and just a couple of things typed/said about T-T.....
Steve Lamacq - Radio 2
Chris T-T is a man that we would trust with our lives. If he was standing for Mayor of London, Id vote for him.
The Fly
T-T puts the lyrical boot in with righteous wit and scathing laser-sighted accuracy. Listen to Chris T-T, he talks sense.
IsThisMusic.com (A-Z review)
Another winner from Chris T-T, one of the finest and consistent songwriters this country has seen this century.
Drowned In Sound (8/10 A-Z review)
All the soaring altitude of an anthem but the instability of an emotional drunk by 8pm on a Friday. A fine example of immersive storytelling through indie-rock, even if its probably not for bedtime.
Alex Duncalf - Bacon Music (4.7/5)
Yet again, Chris T-T has delivered another musical achievement. It would seem Chris has his own genre
Classic Rock magazine (!)
An inspired coalition of contemporary production values, vintage psych scope, parochial Brit whimsy, driving krautrock tenacity and casual genius.
Mark Edwards - Sunday Times (****)
The 21st century Ray Davies: a witty inciteful observer of the bittersweet, and sometimes just bitter, truths about the city. What makes Capital different is a new aggression in the music more personal tracks offer a welcome counterpoint to the bigger themes.
NME
Thankfully theres more to his game than state-the-obvious pessimism. Think Brendan Benson gone psychedelic
John Aizlewood - Q magazine (****)
The turbo-charged A-Z is as grandiose as The Killers, the suave This Gun Is Not A Gun and the punky (We Are) The King Of England spit hummable fire, while closer 4am elegantly distils everything that has already passed.
Stephen Brolan - The Fly
Thank fuck then for the real thing, Chris T-T, whose latest offering brandishes his poet laureate credentials. Sardonic, side-swiping humour, hypnotic Psychedelic Fur-yness and Television-like rhythmic pummelling. Climb onboard and allow Chris T-T show you the TRUE England.
Sunday Times
British pops street-poet laureate and unsung genius returns.
Kirk Burton - IsThisMusic.com (****)
Chris T-T is one of the best British songwriters of the last 10 years demonstrates his ability to write great three minute pop songs while still having something to say.
The Sun (3.5/5 - a hot track of the week)
nifty
The Skinny
Scythes through the bones of contemporary culture.
Frank Turner, interviewed in Neu Magazine
The way that Chris T-T has been treated by the folk community is monstrous to my mind because I think that hes the best folk singer this country has produced in 50 years.

Some cock took down about 8 posters in the space of 48 hours round uni. I made certain not to cover over any posters that advertised future events, so i have no idea why someone would do such a thing
I'm gonna try and borrow a nail gun thing and have another go.
so it was you covering up part of one of my T-T posters in Law Library coffee place grrrrrrrrrrr
Campus is pretty much a free for all, altho I was once told ripping down is 'censorship' but covering up is 'ok'...... i wouldnt get annoyed about it.
-
totally chuffed to announce that:
Thirty Pounds Of Bone will be supporting also!

Is the STFU rule being reinforced for this?.

I can only apologise for designing, creating and writing the other 99% of the flyer.

Vocoustics and Kabuki Presents:
Chris T-T and the Hoodrats + Mark McCabe and the Tearoom Posse
SNAFU (1 Union Street, Aberdeen, AB11 5BU. 01224 596111)
Sunday 19th October
5, 8pm
MySpace.com - Chris T-T - Brighton/London - Indie / Alternative / Folk - www.myspace.com/christtuk
Acclaimed as the clearest voice of discontent in todays music industry, Chris T-T is one of the most consistent, vividly outspoken and fearless songwriters Britain has produced in the last 10 years. He mixes riffing rock with indie-folk and experimental psychedelia to produce songs with deep purpose which are as pop-catchy as they are raw and fiercely literate. A rabble rousing, bearded, unsung genius!
So far: 5 full-length albums, 2 mini-lps, a pile of 7" singles/eps and a live cd. Latest is Capital which was released in Feb 2008 (Xtra Mile Recording) and prior to that 9 Red Songs folkprotest mini-lp (2005) and This Gun Is Not A Gun EP (2007). We Are the King of England is released as download on Monday 17th October.
His new band is made up of Jenny Macro (from Stuffy and the Fuses) on guitar/vocals, Johny Lamb (from Thirty Pounds of Bone) on bass/vocals and Ben Murray (from La Frange) on drums.

STFU are a London-based gospel-influenced sextet playing around with their own mix of oldtime, bluegrass and Celtic folk music. Their exciting live show brings the full all-acoustic sound of banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin and exultant harmonies. Expect up-tempo shit-kickers, mountain-ballad laments and more from this uplifting band of hugely talented soulful musicians.
"An excellent new album a real leap forward for them" Mark Lamarr, BBC Radio 2
"Roots music that knows few boundaries" The List
"A delicate, bruised collection of bluegrass, country & gospel" Uncut
"The musicianship is faultless... I am so proud that it emanates from Britain" Country Music People
"This is a great album (9/10)" Americana UK
"Bar-hopping ballads stuffed with fiddles and banjo." Uncut
"The smoothest, bluegrass tinged, measured acoustic country singing and playing you could wish for this side of the Atlantic." Maverick
"Sounding old as the Appalachians and kicking up a whirl of harmonized soul-searching along the way, STFU know that bad times can lead to good." Plan B
"A compelling mix of bluegrass, gospel, old time and celtic swing that is memorably embellished with warm and richly woven harmonies," The Irish Times
THE BLACK DIAMOND EXPRESS
The BDE a contemporary roots-blues group from Edinburgh made up of 21st Century hobos taking you on a heavy train trip down below. This 'not-so-merry' 9-piece band are made up of banjo, cello, fiddle, harp, percussion, double bass, slide and acoustic guitars and led by the seering vocal of the deeply enigmatic 'Jack of Diamonds'.
Their railroad roots sound reinvents the tradition of the blues into an stunning, mesmerising cacophony of authentic, bellowing sermons delivered in their swaggering, suited live performance which is soaked in poetry, myth and strong bourbon.

bump for wed night
some words on the live set from TF's blog for the tour.....
Tall Firs have pioneered 'checked-baggage rock' and it is amazing to see a whole band lash guitar cases together and expertly repack their gear at the airport to avoid baggage fees. It's an apt analogy for the Tall Firs live experience: Three fellas up there with miniature amplifiers and a distinctive lack of guitar pedals, playing your mom's kit if it's already onstage and no hassle.
Yet the Firs rule a living room or a 2000 seat theatre, college-campus shed or dive bar. Tall Firs are the canned expanding foam of rock bands: Once you pop that bitch open, they precisely fill any given space with a lather of creamy dual savant guitar and lead drumming, plus the trademark world-weary vocal stylings and wiseacre goofing. You are invited aboard.
