FOGHORN STRINGBAND
www.myspace.com/foghornstringband
Hailing from Portland, Oregon the Foghorn Stringband are part of an old time music revival coming out of Northwest America and could have come barreling through the grille-cloth of those big console radios in the living rooms of the 1950's.
They are devoted to the interpretation and performance of old-time stringband music encompassing bluegrass, cajun, early country music, murder ballads and fiddle repertoires of the Southern Appalachians.
With a powerful and tight instrumentation on show the line-up of fiddle, banjo, mandolin, double bass and guitar is engrossing. They sing and play around one microphone, in old-time style, and deliver brilliant Appalachian barn-dance music at a feverish, energetic pace.
Thrilling audiences at festivals across the world they further this great tradition through a profound belief that old-time music, played in a traditional way, is still relevant and very much alive in the 21st century.
'One of the greatest new things in old-time music... all they have to do is play, and the power surges straight through your own chest... they are supertight, are major monster players' (The Old Time Herald)
'Simultaneously a beacon of and impervious to the old-time revival... don't let them pass you by!' (Country Standard Time)
'Foghorn delivers in spades.... Portland string players who play old-time music the way it was meant to be played...' (The Oregonian)
'Few other oldtime stringband's today can kick old-time ass like Foghorn.' (Fiddlefreak.com)
'A white-knuckled cluster of fiddle, banjo, mandolin, bass and guitar...' (Portland Tribune)
'The sound is almost frantic...' (Bluegrass Unlimited)
SMOKIN' CATFISH
Kick-ass, dance-to bluegrass from a local 6-piece featuring double bass, guitar, banjo, dobro, mandolin, fiddle and 3 great singers in 3-part harmony bliss.

Vocoustics Promotions Presents:
CREVECOEUR + JEREMY WHEATLEY + STANLEY
Sunday 9th May
Cafe Drummonds
6 from 8pm
CREVECOEUR
www.myspace.com/wearecrevecoeur
Crvecoeur - translated as "broken heart" - are an unusual French trio formed in 2003. Initially formed by two young multi-instrumentalists playing guitars, percussion, harmonium, trumpet and various toy-instruments, Crvecoeur were later joined by a further violin player/multi-instrumentalist. Their songs are mostly instrumental pieces, a tribute to the glorious days of soundtrack music, yet with a pop sensibility.
Live, Crvecoeur use subtlety and a range of tones and images to create a unique and beguiling atmosphere - every show is accompanied by live 8mm film projections. Crvecoeur could be the result of the encounter between Calexico and Pascal Comelade, or Henry Mancini and The Black Heart Procession...
'Cinematic soundscapes... a definite tilt towards dusty roads, spaghetti westerns and Mariachi music.' (Tastyfanzine)
'a trio of multi-intrumentists do-it-yourself genius....difference is an attraction, especially when quality is there' (Cafezik.com)
JEREMY WHEATLEY
www.myspace.com/jeremywheatley
Taking time out from drumming with The Low Lows, Tin Cup Prophette, Liz Durrett, and Je Suis France, tour support comes in the form of a selection of minimalist, country-tinged, indie-folk songs penned by Jeremy Wheatley from Athens, Georgia.
STANLEY
Bands rarely enjoy comparisons, but if you were to take the intelligence of The Divine Comedy, the creativity of Radiohead circa The Bends and the soaring vocal talents of Scott Walker you wouldn't be far away.

Vocoustics Promotions Presents:
THE UNWANTED TRIO+ FINFOLK
The Blue Lamp (121 Gallowgate, Aberdeen AB25 1BU)
Tel: 01224 647 472
Tuesday 27th April
8 from 8pm
THE UNWANTED TRIO
www.myspace.com/theunwantedtrio
The Unwanted are a trio of Sligo-based musicians whose work is inspired by, explores and reflects the combined musical traditions from Ireland to Appalachia and beyond...
The Band:
Roscommon born Cathy Jordan, lead singer for acclaimed group Dervish, moves effortlessly and with soaring voice between Sean-ns, Appalachian ballad and contemporary folksong, lending rich accompaniment on bodhrn and tenor guitar.
Sligo native Samus ODowd (guitar, fiddle) grew up steeped in the tradition of Sligo fiddling, early on expanding his repertoire to include the New World traditions and today he is as accomplished playing Blues on slide guitar as he is playing jigs and reels.
Rick Epping (harmonica, concertina, banjo, jaw harp), a native of California, has been moving back and forth between Ireland and the United States for over 40 years and has been playing the music of both lands since childhood.
"a gorgeous soundscape" (Scotland on Sunday)
"an attractive array of material from both sides of the pond, incorporating elements of country, folk, Irish, jug band, blues and Appalachia songs.... the trio deliver with passion and depth" (Hot Press)
"this masterpiece has you submerged in a journey of cowboys, drovers and music thats so real you can taste and smell it." (Irish Music Magazine)
FINFOLK
Finfolk mix the Celtic music influences of Ireland, the Scottish Borders and Hungary. Featuring Tom Roche (button-accordion), Kenn Clark (guitar/vocals) and Jani Lang (fiddle) the music they produce knows few boundaries with a strong emphasis on self-penned tunes and improvisation.

Im thinking this will be worth a look....

Just a reminder of how groovy Richmond Fontaine are. For fans of cheesy guitar grimaces and floppy fringes
but also menacing dark-uplifty awesomeness....
