We are pretty eclectic. Um... it's pretty hard to say really.

We've been described as:

"Indian Space Rock with a side-order of Electric Blues."

and

"How can you describe these? If Pink Floyd played the blues they would sound

something like this...you will be amazed!"

If you want comparisons, I guess you could hear influences of Pink Floyd or Radiohead.

Haha, yes. It would have to be really short normal hair on top and sides, with long dreads at the back only.

My friend and I cut my other friend's hair recently. He made us cut it properly eventually, but not until we had given him a bowl-cut with a mullet at the back.

Yeah, I've seen them play once. Their set opened in darkness, with synth and guitar soloing. Very Floydish. But then, the bulk of the set was more in the vein of Turin Brakes or something. Not really bad thing, but I was looking forward to a bit of a Space Rock band, and was slightly disappointed.

Overall though, yeah I think they're good and definitely worth checking out.

I have to say, Ewano, your hair fucking rocks. I've been trying to grow my hair for about 2-3 years now, so I can dread it, but I keep having to cut it for various reasons. So far, I managed to get about half my head filled with little 3-inch long dreads (all my own, finger-bleeding work), but my hair still ain't long enough.

Also on the topic of mullets, I would seriously get one if I wasn't trying so damned hard to grow my hair

Are Mudvayne a 'Mathcore' band?

That's a good point, actually. I'm sure they don't mean to criticise you like that, but you're right. You don't deserve this after revviewing their demo, which I look upon as a favour. It's bloody hard to get people to listen to your music, so when htey don't just listen, but post what they think, they deserve some respect.

Argh. I'm fascinated by obscure musical instruments, and while surfing ebay late tonight (look at my posting time), I found one of these casio V|-tone thingies. I now want one... a lot. Can someone give me a brief description of what they actually do/allow you to do? And waht is all this about Thainstone? Is it a place near Aberdeen? What has it got to do with these keyboards? What's going on? Why am I asking so many questions?

but there is a lot of bad karma here. Everyone is being really edgy. I think I'm gonna sit on hte fence without any particular opinion and jsut see how/if this develops.

I hate to admit to any form of close-mindedness, but for me to like a punk band nowadays, they have to be fairly fucking impressive or have something that noone else has. So, I generally don't make the effort to go see local punk. However, I have a local bands compilation with a track called "Zoo Trip" by 10EW on it. Have a vague memory of being unimpressed, but I'll go to bed and listen to it now, just to be sure.

Rory, that's full of shit. You're talking about fashion now. If someone posted in the 'all music discusison' forum saying that your corduroy jacket was shit, you would point out to them that that has sweet fuck all to do with the music.

And more importantly, Anthony Kiedis wore 3/4 length trousers in the video for 'Californication', and that wasn't emo. (Someone please correct me if the RHCP are now somehow emo as well)

Just been to the Lemon Tree this evening to see John Etheridge's "Sweet Chorus" performing a tribute to the great Stephane Grapelli. Just wanted to post and say that I was amazed. I've never seen John Etheridge before, and I was so impressed, not just by him and the equally amazing violinist, who both belted out amazing solos, over fast swing pieces in which the rhythm guitarist's right hand became nothing but a blur of flesh, to slow pieces that made me want to cry with happiness, but also by the double-bassist, who had a fantastic solo, and the aforementioned rhythm-guitarist with his lightening hands.

Even the venue itself was set-up to inspire magic. The tables were all laid out in front of the stage, with a candle atop each one, and the lights down to the dimmest possible atmosphere.

The only thing was the lack of a good crowd. There was only a very intimate, cosy audience present, and the musicians surely deserveda huge crowd. However, I found that the small audience were extremely appreciative of hte music, and the size of crowd was conducive the relaxed, intimate vibe which added to the feeling to make the evening as good as one could imagine.

.....I do feel a bit silly posting htis, as I don't hitnk anyone on the forums was likely to have been present tonight, but if anyone was, please post somehting.

And if oyu weren't, I htink you should post an apology to yourself for not allowing yourself to witness a real musical gem.

Thank god. I read the first few posts in this thread, and I'm fucking glad that not everyone shares those opinions. Well done to those defending emo as a musical genre. I'm not saying anything about fashion, hair, clothes, etc (some 'true' emo bands make me sick with the way the make themseves a stereotype), but the music generally referred to as 'emo' is as good as any other genre. I hate how people rip the piss out of anyhtign that they think is emo. I would say Brand New are an emo band. They don't dress like it, or look like it, but their music in my eyes qualifies. And I think they are excellent. I don't think people should write-off whole genres just because of a stereotype.
