  1. Hey everyone I have been running a singing school which gives free lessons to kids in regeneration areas of Aberdeen: Northfield, mastrick, cummings park, etc. We are going to have a mini concert at our final week and would like to ask some kind-hearted musicians if they would be the backing band for our choirs? Sorry, no fee to offer just some complimentary beers from me afterwards and that warm fuzzy feeling you get for doing a good deed at christmas-tide We would ask you to play the songs we have learned, I have all the sheet music here. It is on Wednesday 16th December at Northfield community centre, byron square 6pm - 7pm. Cheers jayne
  2. Hey I will be teaching at a new job next year and the people want to learn traditional Scottish music. Or, modern music that has is sung in scottish tradition like folk music. I'm going to be bugging Alan cynic for some of his tunes Does anyone know of any good websites for this sort of thing? Cheers Jayne

  7. Hi I have to pay class 2 and class 4, so i need to keep that aside for my tax. Most qualified singing teachers in aberdeen city won't charge anything less than 30 quid per hour. Btw i would say that you would notice an improvement in your technique after 3-4 lessons, then if you didn't want to go every week maybe pay a visit to your teacher once every month as a refresher.
  8. er, i meant find, not fund. Apologies.
  9. hey I have recorded 'oh holy night' for submission to the kilau christmas cd. I recorded it using a minidisc recorder. I am hoping to fund a computer whizz who can get the recording, edit it, spruce it up and make it their own. Cheers jayne
  10. Hey folks Bad News: I'm afraid that my hourly rate will have to go up to 20 per hour, so I can cover the NI contributions I have to pay for being self employed. Good News: My new rate won't start until next year. Anyone who is interested in lessons can still have a go for 10 per hour until 31st Dec I also have gift certificates for those who might want to give some singing lessons to somebody as a gift for Christmas. Cheers Jayne
  11. I was hoping to sing with some people over Christmas and New Year. If someone's singer gets the lurgie then give me a call and I'll dep for them.
  12. I'm now on bookface: bookface I have taken the plunge and registered as self employed, eeeek!
  13. Just like when you learn to play guitar or bass and you get to a point where your fingers know instinctively where to go, singing also involves muscle memory. If you don't know instinctively know how to reach a note or what the words are for a song, you will get confused. Juggling that and trying to play an instrument, it's just too hard. That's why it's important to practise singing, even though some people think that you just have to turn up and open yer 'moo
  14. Email sent, thanks for getting in touch. Jayne

  16. I would like to find a band/musicians to play corporate gigs, weddings, etc. I'm most interested in singing jazz or swing, anyone else up for this?
  17. Hiya I am a singer, just graduated with a 2:1 in music performance as a soprano. I have a lot of gigging experience with covers bands, but it has been mostly playing sax with a little bit of singing. I'd like to join an existing band as a singer, maybe playing a little bit of sax if needed. I don't really mind what i sing: soul, funk, pop, jazz, etc. I have played/sang in Groove Cruise (soul/funk) for two years and Aka Ska (ska) for four years. I have performed a lot as a soprano, I also learn songs pretty quickly. cheers Jayne
