  1. Thanks for the feedback dudes, its appreciated.

Yeah, i see what you mean about the "lack of youthful exuberance". We are writing with different styles at the moment so we're still really looking to find our sound. We'd be looking to incorporate more electronic stuff, with a sequencer and such. These are only our first two tracks, but we're still really looking to do more with them. I'm hoping my singing will get better with more practise, but backing vocals on song 1 are something we'll definately want to be looking at.

Larsen - One day i'll write music you'll enjoy

  2. Hey everyone,

Our new band, The Snake Temple Kings, have some material to share with everyone. These are two songs which, are still works in progress. We're hoping to experiment with more instruments in the near future, but here's how are first two recorded songs are working out anyway.

The band is, Thomas Wheeler (Bass), Thomas Ward (Drums), Andy Philips (Keys), and, myself Rory Will (Guitar, vocals); with more to follow in the near future, hopefully. It was recorded at Musical Vision.

We're looking to get gigging soon, so if anyone could share a thought it would much appreciated!

    Cheers :bat:

  3. I Reckon the next trend will be folk will listen to goregrind and wear skulls as hats/

That gets me thinking. . . Anyone think they can honestly predict the next trend? Emo seems to me to be like hippies but with an adapted ego. Back then people had a lot more to fight for, now it SEEMS to most that we have a lot less to fight for. So, we stop singing about politics and morality, and start singing about ourselves. Songs about how our egos have been harmed by others and our girlfriends. . .

When the ego acts in this way, its not uncommon for someone to seek to be "alternative", even just sub-consiously, to be the new 'cool'. So whats genuinly alternative now? Just wait till the right amount of ego gets hold of that and boom our new fad. . .

Off-topic i know, but i just got thinking there. Might think about it some more o_O

  4. i was cold had half an hour to kill and nothing better to do so.........

i purchased the nme' date=' what a joke! its just a newspaper sized kerrang but for mtv2ers

anybody know of any good music magazines? or websites?[/quote']

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. It'd be good to have a read of a magazine that covers all kinds of genres as opposed to magazines, pigeon-holed to the current trend in music

  5. You know' date=' I never really got a chance to hear Magma!!

I know they are Steve Davis (the ageing snooker player)'s favourite band though![/quote']

Yeah, I've read that, and frankly, i can't get my head round it.

Here's a link to where you can hear a magma track. I recommend Da Zeuhl Wortz Mekanik

Here's some Magma video clips too. Pretty disturbing looking and sounding in these clips.

  6. What about the Ozric Tentacles? I've been listening to them a lot recently - really stunning stuff. I really want to try getting synth sequences like theirs in the new prog project on the go (The Snake Temple Kings, coming soon :bat: )

Infact, anyone ever had a listen to Magma? They have a similarly mad concept not too unlike Gong's. Made up their own language 'n' all those crazy freaks! Their music might seem daft at first but it REALLY climaxes like no other band i've heard. Any thoughts on them?

  7. Seeing as the jukebox is being replaced by a much larger one, theres going to be plenty room for prog isn't there? Muwhahaha

Gong - You - is an awesome album, and isn't as insane as you might think. Must have!

King Crimson - Red - First prog metal sound EVER - also must have!

I think you should have a Status Quo album too, just because you can.

  8. I've been listening to Gong ALL day, so I've decided to start an appreciation thread here. Anyone else here enjoy Gong?

Also to announce they are playing a 3 day festival in Amsterdam in November, which i would rather die than miss.

Steve Hillage's System 7 are also playing a set amongst loads of other acts at the festival. I can only assume that Hillage isn't going to go all the way to Amsterdam and NOT play with his old band Gong so i'm literally crapping myself about this event.

Info on the gig can be found at www.planetgong.co.uk

I hope im not the only Gong lover on the site

  9. Anathema : Looking Outside Inside

In Flames: Artifacts of the Black Rain (if you want to hear what in flames were like when they were a LOT better than today)

Porcupine Tree: The Sky Moves Sideways (phase 1)

Porcupine Tree: Baby Dream in Cellephane

    no need to thank me:gringo:

Given you like that porcupine tree track' date=' i'd recommend you try the Ozric Tentacles. Most of their stuff is amazing though "Eternal Wheel", i find is a good one to start with. You can stream their tracks off of [url']www.progarchives.com

I'd also recommend Gong - I never glid before

    Tangerine Dream - Phaedra

Magma - Da Zeuhl Wortz Mechanik

    King Crimson - Starless

Prog lovers should like those ones but i would encourage everyone to listen to these tracks cuz they demonstrate some highly original ideas.

  10. I don't have to appreciate him at all I'm afraid. I wouldn't be part of an audience that would go to a gig to be hypnotized by a guitar.

No you don't HAVE to appreciate him. But it doesn't even have to take a fan of guitar orientated music for someone to see what he did for his genre. I used to be massively into guitar based music, and it was back then i thought Hendrix was even over rated. Listening to it keeping an open mind about how the people of the time would have heard it, lets you hear it in a different light though.

Surely the likes of Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk wouldn't get labelled overrated nowadays as they are dated and its all been done now? They did for their genre what Hendrix did for his, pretty much. Atleast thats the way it seems to me at this point in time.

Only too often do people assume that because they don't like it, it means nothing to the evolution of music.

  11. I totally agree about Radiohead' date=' i like OK Computer onwards but i think the Bends is actually just utter shit. Bland angst-rock. I don't think that many people really rate Killers and Kaisers all that highly.

Out of the big guns from the past i think the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix are utter crap. Especially Hendrix, what a bore...have i said all this already?...no i haven't. Good. I also don't see how anyone could rate Soundgarden. And RATM are really friggin overrated, decent but really overrated, too repetitive and limited.[/quote']

Hendrix revolutionized guitar playing. TOTALLY. He was like a prophet. I'm not a massive fan of his music, although he does have some great tunes, so i could understand why you might think he's boring. However, think of being a part of his audience way back in that era, and his revolutionary style of guitar playing would hypnotise the audience. . . You have to appreciate what he did for guitar, like him or not.
