Probably not, I mean he was never the man for quality control when he was alive. He'd just zonked out of his face and muching a huge burger
-
Rod Stewart isn't even Scottish so no wonder he wasn't on the list.
-
I agree with most of that list actually but as The Disco says it's a laugh really.

Elvis was a great singer but this number One's thing means nothing for a few reasons:
- The singles chart is now more meaningless than ever
- There have been over a hundred of Elvis singles released over the years so proportionally he's bound to have a high number of noumber 1s
- The record company is the only winner, as ever, with their deceased artists catalogue.
- New talent takes a back seat again for a reissue.
-
Of course Lennon could be a wanker but he had talent to back it up. That'll be the first and last time they are mentioned alongside Delays I hope...
Merry Christmas War Is Over
Here's an interesting wee titbit I came across tonight

PS The Rock And Roll Circus is on tonight! Why Yoko why?
-
Never rated them and the fact they threw wobblers in their early interviews (not sure now...) when called "The Delays" instead of "Delays" just put me off even thinking about them
-
Chris Henderson yes indeedy. Here's his website which is just about to be updated with his new stuff....

A bit off track but one guy to look out for Damien Dempsey, very intense, charismatic Irish singer songwriter with a reggae tinge to his work. Played the Lemon Tree learlier this year and supported Dylan and Morrissey.
Also have you heard Jellyfish? Bellybutton their first album was magnificent pop but then they followed it up with a rather lush Beach Boys ish album, which I wasn't quite as keen on although still worthy effort, before imploding.

You can't diss an artist for influencing "lesser" talents, anyway Dylan had a much wider impact than just singer songwriters. Most bands approach to lyrics changed as a result of Dylan
btw I really dislike that Melua bird, her voice grates
-
It is opinion but I'm staggered with your comment. If you listen to any of those bands in the same way (single after single) I'm sure you'd find many a duff / lame track whereas The Beatles are quality right through and damned diverse too. But if you don't dig them...
I listened to one of recent Who compilations and there's a lot of fair to middling stuff and the production seems to go from brilliant to rubbish even with the same producer. Further down the food chanin, The Small Faces are another band with a patchy track record. Some great singles but very average most of the time.

The Beatles were writing "drug" songs' date=' experimenting with samples and tape loops and playing stadiums while Mick n' Keef were still learning how to write songs. The Stones based their public persona on being the opposite of the Beatles, while still hawking merchandise with the same intensity. Mick dolls were a particular favourite of teenie boppers at the time.
The Beatles were the greatest band of all time. Without them, the Stones would still be backing Alexis Korner and Mick would be selling tickets.[/quote']
Brilliantly put.

by the way since when was playing bass in elgin regarded as a talent?
Nice one LOL
I prefer the 70's Floyd stuff and I suppose their most popular stuff is then and that's why they are in that grouping.
-
Regardless of how much of a drug addled twat morrison was himself no one can deny that the sheer level of poetry in his lyrics was well beyond the cheesy cock wash that brian wilson and mick jagger churn out over and over again. the doors were an awesome band. nuff said.
Denied ... rambling schoolboy tosh
...and I must say the Velvet Underground are equally over rated.
By the way Flossie, Pink Floyd were in the 70s Hall Of Fame program
-
The Doors are one of the most over rated bands ever and Morrison was a nasty little runt with an overinflated ego and a fair to middling vocal. They have a couple of good tunes but the rest are well dated and dreary.

Give a Monkey A Brain and He'll Swear He's The Centre Of The Universe - Fishbone
-
UFO - Strangers In The Night
Allman Bros - Live At The Filmore East
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
Cheap Trick - At The Budokan
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous

Plus they were way better than the Beatles ever were.
Ba ha ha The Stones were always in the wake of the Beatles...christ they even had to get them to write their first real hit and then show them how to write their own songs. As for the bad boys The Stones just acted the part...it was a PR ploy by ex NEMS employee Loog Oldham.
It is a hard pick as all the artists had a real impact on what we have today. I'd go for Dylan or Aretha
-
The Coral's first album only has one good track ....Dreaming Of You
Rolliing Stones - Still Life - Still born more like
MSG - Assault Attack
-
I've always loved Be Good To Yourself absolute stomper written by and featuring Andy Fraser
-
Rod Stewart born in Highgate, London....Scottish?
What about Danny Wilson?
I'd vote for The Blue Nile or Average White Band

I've seen her once about a year ago and thought she was good but nothing special. One thing that did really impress was the way she went round the audience afterwards chatting to them - nice touch.
One of my mates saw her in Glasgow a few years ago and says she's far better just with an acousitc guitar.
-
yeah john did say ringo wasnt even the best drummer in the beatles.
"is ringo the best drummer in the world?"
"no' date=' hes not even the best drummer in the beatlers"
but the topic says "favorite" drummer not "best" drummer[/quote']
What a load of bollocks it was actually a joke if anthing and I can't think of any songs he played anything but the perfect fit. I think that's the most part of any musicians contribution to a song. I found this interesting wee discussion http://homerecording.com/bbs/archive/index.php/t-11369.html
Anyway other than that I like:
Jerry Gaskill - Kings X
Abe Laboriel Jr - Macca / Sting etc
John Bonham
Tim "Herb" Alexander Fish - Fishbone
Ringo
-
Queens of the Stone Age
Kings X
PIL
blue gum ears??i reckon thats a terrible name for a terrible bandThe name may be a bit lame (although i do know people that like it) but they are a good band
