  1. She's pure class, and ridiculously under-exposed. It'll be good to see her playing with someone else as I think her songs will come over a lot more strongly that way.
  2. Sorry, someone jumped the gun there. The show is pencilled and will hopefully happen but isn't 100% confirmed yet.
  3. Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby: The Eric and Amy Show Monday 12th March Doors Open 7.30pm/Onstage 8pm 9 (6 concessions and Regulars) Since their debut duo performance of Je TAime at Yo La Tengos 2005 Hanukkah show fell apart and left the Hoboken crowd in stunned silence, Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby have been delighting and confounding audiences from New York to Norwich, from Herne Bay to Memphis. Combining several decades of critically acclaimed records and failed relationships, Eric and Amy join forces in The Eric & Amy Show. With twice the jaded romanticism, two times the honest observation and double the musical enthusiasm, together and separately they perform their should-be, could-be and has-been hits, accompanying each other on harmonies, guitars, bass and keyboards. Wreckless Eric and sassy American singer/songwriter Amy Rigby played with awe-inspiring energy and enthusiasm for more than two-and-a-half hours. More double act than duo, they shared equal billing...they accompanied one another perfectly. Bristol Evening Post www.wrecklesseric.com www.amyrigby.com
  4. Aim Tuesday 27th February Doors Open 9pm/Onstage 10pm 12 (8 concessions and Regulars) Aim (aka Andy Turner) and a full 10-piece band travel north to promote the new album Flight 602 released on their own ATIC label. The band will be showcasing material from Flight 602, ranging from heavy breakbeat funk through introspective hip-hop to psychedelic folk, as well as Aim classics from Cold Water Music and Hinterland. This is a rare opportunity to catch one of the finest live outfits around and should on no account be missed. "Like The K&D Sessions and Smokers Delight, almost everyone seems to have copies of Aims first two albums in their collections. And now its time to clear space for a third because youre guaranteed to still be listening to Flight 602 for years to come. Whether its the pastoral ballad Its Later Than You Think, the hair-raisingly gorgeous tracks with singer Niko like Aberdeen or the beautiful instrumental interludes, the whole album shimmers with a million points of light like a musical constellation." 5/5 DJ Magazine www.myspace.com/aimflight602
  5. Ben Taylor Amy MacDonald Monday 29th January Doors Open 7.30pm/Support 8pm 10 (6.75 concessions and Regulars) Say you're a gifted young artist - someone like Ben Taylor, for instance. You've written a pile of great songs. You've got a way with melody and a mastery of the understated lyric. You've got a voice that lingers in the air - tuneful, expressive, the kind of voice that makes its impact with the smallest turn of a whispered phrase. Under normal circumstances, you've got all it takes to make an impression. Some might say you're even a candidate for stardom. But Ben Taylor's circumstance is far from normal. His parents - father James Taylor, mother Carly Simon - are giants of popular music. And with that lineage come the expectations that make his latest album, Another Run Around The Sun a milestone as well as a masterwork. Of course, there was never any pressure from his family to match their achievements - no pressure, that is, except from Ben himself. He's always kept his standards high - how could he not? And when his sound began to evolve, and invariably it showed signs of influence from those who were closest to him, he found himself at a crossroads that most artists never have to visit. His choice was whether to deny his birthright, to pack up his music and take it somewhere else for reasons that have nothing to do with the music itself. Or he could stake his claim on the family land, sing and play the way he wanted to, and against all odds stand as an artist with unique qualities of his own. It took a while, but with Another Run Around The Sun, Ben makes that choice - the right choice. www.bentaylorband.com
  6. Should be onsale in the next day or two.
  7. I like their stuff but a bit too ska-punk for this one. Really needs something funky and/or angular in the vein of Gang Of Four/Radio 4/Franz etc.
  8. Bless you, Biz. You're still a peenge though. SLF is more or less confirmed for 16th march and will hopefully be tied up and onsale by the end of the month, if not before.
  9. It's now onsale, folks. As is Davy Graham for March 19th...
  10. Ticking over very nicely. We're expecting it to be very busy. Can one of you guys send me an email address to music@lemontree.org so I can fire out the details for the gig. Still looking for another suitable local support for this if anyone has any bright ideas...
  11. Don't hold your breath but we are trying to find a date that will work for them.
  12. Going by the tech spec, this is going to be a HEAVY show. Lots of sub bass apparently, which sounds very intriguing....
  13. We're delighted to announce 1990s and Bricolage as supports for The Long Blondes, making this a pretty much unmissable lineup: The Long Blondes The 1990s Bricolage Monday 9th October Doors Open 7.30pm/Support 8pm 9 (6 concessions and Regulars) Sheffields The Long Blondes kicked off 2006 as recipients of the NME Philip Hall Radar Award (previously won by Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs) before signing to Rough Trade. The band's most recent single, Weekend Without Makeup charted and it exhibits many of the already established hallmarks of a Long Blondes classic. The witty yet disturbing narratives, the barely contained guitar lines and drum crashes. Like the Slits playing Roxy Music or Donna Summer reciting the collected works of Harold Pinter, the Long Blondes are truly becoming auteurs of the perfect left-field pop song. catch the Long Blondes live and it's hard not to be floored: not just by their Blondie-tinged, super-danceable arch-pop, but also by how divine they look. 15. (1am finish/DJ/standing) The Lemonheads plus support Friday 20th October Doors Open 9pm/Support 9.30pm 16.50 (11 concessions and Regulars) Evan Dando suspends his solo work to reconvene a new Lemonheads line up featuring hardcore survivors Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag) and Karl Alvarez (Descendents) and record the bands first album in ten years. According to the man himself, It really sounds like The Lemonheads. Maybe a little better" and, in comparison to his more mellow, solo output: "Louder, faster, more like Buzzcocks pop-punkand way less introspective. www.lemonheads.co.uk Tickets onsale tomorrow.

  17. We've done it for 2 or 3 of the most recent Elvis nights and will probably do it for the Johnny Cash night in Sep too. It obviously only works if you've a reasonable split between full bands and duo/solo acts as the second stage isn't that big. Another great night. Kill Baby...Kill, Bill Ely and TTA were superb as were Dave Dixon and King Voodoo but we pretty much take that for granted at Elvisness now. Finniston were really good too, great choice of songs.
  18. Truly, it was one of the great Elvisness moments. But then, there have been many... Sadly, the diehards pretty much gave up on us a few years back but you do still usually get a few of them along as well.
  19. If we felt there was enough interest from artists and audience, we'd be very keen to stage an Arthur Lee tribute night. He played a couple of great Lemon Tree shows in recent years and we are all very sorry to hear of his death.
  20. Hey Sultan! Mail me about the Wishbone Ash gig - music@lemontree.org
  21. Staccato Set have just been added to the lineup. Looking like a very good een...
  22. That's the spirit! What are your highlights?
  23. After nine years, we could probably do with some new blood in our annual celebration/desecration of all things Kingly. so if any bands out there fancy putting together between 3 and 6 Elvis covers for what is unfailingly one of the biggest and best nights of the year, drop me a line at music@lemontree.org This year's date is Sat 19th August and all performers get paid...
