  1. Its a bit crap dont you think that for instance, the list of bands in the worst category are not all the same as in the best category and others for example, an unfair bias one might have said regardless of who is better! I know its all a bit of fun, but sort it out!

The same bands should appear in every category to get a fair chance, failing that, ALL bands.

You might think a band sucks, but you can only vote for them in the "Best band" category, mmmmmmm:down:

  2. Mendeed were AWESOME! as per usual.

Shame the same couldn't be said about the support bands.I was looking forward to seeing element since I hadn't seen them in about 3 years but was dissapointed. The screeching on the feedback was really annoying.

You had it lucky mate, at least you could hear something, I couldnt hear a damn thing behind the kit, no bass drum, plus the hi-hat wasn't mic'd, and I had no monitors for a change, all in all resulting in some rather sloppy drumming for the first time in ages! I know, bad workman blames his tools and all that, but I think thats the worst I've ever played live in the 6 year history of the band! KEF just doesn't have the equipment required for a venue that size, and considering how many big name bands they put on, i'm a bitty worried! The mendeed drummer used almost every mic available in the building!!

Musically I thought sounded pretty spot on, but then again, I was behind the kit!

  3. Well man, as both you and I have discussed in great length on a par to previous members leaving the band -

Maybe not this simple but here we go -

    1. Band get noticed

    2. Band get signed

    3. Band get pro recording that costs alot of money

    4. Band get loadsa gigs at Drakes sized venues round Britain and the likes to a crowd of 3 etc.

    5. Spend lots of time in a B reg transit with holes in the floorpan where the cabinets keep trying to escape through! Dont see loved ones for months

    6. Fail to make any impact on the harsh crowds that we know so well, and yer up shite creek!!

    7. No job, no fame, owe record company alot of money!

    8. Spend the rest of your life paying back the record company by working somewhere shite for 1.99 per hour minus lunchbreak!

  4. Pretty decent, although I quite dislike the chorus, sounds like something that the Lost prophets have just churned out, just dont like the whole nicey nicey boys vocal duet type stuff, but its good for what it is

I suppose in this day and age, its impossible to create something wholly unique, we all do it, just imossible to do something no-ones thought of before.

F**KING amazing sound though, really tight!

  5. What be yonder opinions on these cymbals?

They're semi descent I suppose, Zildjian used to make a similar line called Scimitars before the ZBT which were very similar. They are made of Zinc, Copper and Tin, ( and Cast) but lack the Silver that goes into the more expensive Series, like your K's and K Customs,(lathed and hand hammered) hence the somewhat dull unexciting wash of noise, very short decay, and no decent primary tones. But it does say Zildjian on it, which makes it good to me!

You should check out the cymbals i'm selling in the Trading section of this forum, couple of A customs crashes, blah blah, for next to nothing, in fantastic condition. Sounds you wont be dissapointed with!

  6. Heap of bollocks as usual - regardless of tempo' date=' why bother hitting harder than you have to? If that was an issue I'd be onto Alesis asking for triggers (though this is patly due to the fact that most house kits in Aberdeen venues are fucking gash, and my playing is more so :D)........[/quote']

I'm sick of all this, i'm going out to Cash converters, selling my kit, and buying some DARTSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Keep out of the black and into the red, there's nowt in this game for two in a bed:up:

  7. ok' date='....

i thought element 106 were awful, it puzzles me how 4 guys who have been playing together for that length of time can still have such a shocking sound. im sure the bass playing was impressive technically but it sounded like a crock of shit, no low end = really empty songs = solos sounding crap = people thinking thewre should be another guitar in there. the drummer really needs to hit harder, i dont care how fast he is playing, i (and im sure the sound engineer) reckon that he needs to hit harder and tighter, if there were any song dynamics before, the bassist and drummer well and truly killed them.

im sure its not very constructive or anything[/quote']

If the sound is that bad in you opinion MR Maxi, how can you tell whether the drums are tight sounding or not? An impossible situation i think you might say. Drums are always extremely accurate, yes i do admit i'm not the hardest of hitter, but thats not my thing, even if alot of people dont like it, tough luck i guess. I'm basically a jazz drummer playing metal music, i even use really thin sticks for extra maneoverability at speed. They are easier to throw round a kit faster! But its not for everyone to appreciate i suppose. And i'm not really playing that fast in E106, believe me i could play alot faster, but the music does not necessitate that sort of drumming, plus the volume and precision starts to drop off. Too many drummers think they can play at such speeds with their feet and hands, but are very sloppy, unacurrate, unconsistant and would give triggering a run for its money. I dont believe in playing beyond your ability to show people what you can do, because you CANT do it period. Keep it for practice, NOT LIVE performances.:band::cheers:

  8. I actually pretty much agree with all of that. I wasn't at this gig' date=' but the few times I have seen Element have been the same. They just sounded a bit ropey tbh, like they're only just holding it together somehow. And something does seem to be missing, whether it's more bass, another guitar or whatever, dunno. I always think the drums should be the engine powering the band along like they can't help it. The Element drums feel more like a rickety trailer bouncing along behind. It may be very clever technically, but if you don't look or sound like you're totally into it then neither will anyone else be.

    Just my ars..erm, opinion.

    ps good review, Mr Ola.

Ach well, all feedback is good. But i would say there are some fair points there, we have been toying with the idea of a second guitarist for a while, but we are settled in our 4 piece outfit and have been for too long now to upset the balance. We used to be a five piece, and we actually sounded worse IMHO. We sound alot more raw now, but i admit, some areas could do with chunking up.

Regarding the drums, something i take very seriously, all i can say is i'm no sound engineer, and once we start, i have no control over the sound of the drums or the band. It really depends on alot of factors, who the engineer is, what drumkit is being used, whether i'm having a good day or not, etc, no bullsh*t, just points of fact that affect all drummers, and musicians alike. I would say that i'm one of the rare drummers here who actually do go behind the kit and change tom tunings/ / bass drum tension before i play them, as they are critical to me playing the best, also i get the engineer to compress the bass drum sound considerably to get that warm slappy click that i love, i cant stand drummers who go behind a kit and play "as is" without making it their own because it will always sound not quite like their own thing!

But there we go, just y perspective on the matter!:gringo:

  9. So Tunnels show featuring Statue of Misery' date=' Today We Fight, Element 106 and We Shall Be Blessed.

I also wished that the drummer would hit harder. Thats just me, im fussy about that. I like to see drummers huff and puff and beat the fuck out of their kit.[/quote']

You know man, thats what i get all the time:up:

I'll say it again - harder hitting=wasting energy and speed, thats what drum mics are for!!

    LOL:love:

  10. Yes Scorge' date=' we have a darts team, and as Sue says, a few of them can be seen on a Saturday afternoon strutting their stuff at the end of the bar. We're in Division 3 and, although they pretty much have a full team at present, they're always keen to sign up new members. The only proviso to signing up appears to be that you can still hit the board after sinking 10 pints before the match!! Oh, and that you must be a good loser is an added bonus too ;)

Seriously though, they're a great bunch of guys (and lady ???), so if you're interested in playing, I'll give them the nod for you and just drop in past on a Saturday afternoon, or Monday evening and ask for Dick or Rab.[/quote']

    DEEAAAARTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTS

  11. :cheers::band::rockon:

haha' date=' I didn't mean it quite as directly as I said it Chris! I was speaking in very general terms; i.e. all bands are very loud, very metal, tuned down guitars, not particularly melodic etc etc.

Also the 'short' set comment wasn't meant in a bad way. We (mmw) always play really short sets, as that way people that don't like us will be glad we fucked off, and people that do like us will want to hear more! :D

    ANOTHER one?

To be honest that probably wasn't the best decision of the night....[/quote']

Aw hey Dan, its cool, i wasn't being funny or anything!!

  12. ALSO, CAN EVERY DRUMMER WHERE POSSIBLE TAKE ONE CYMBAL STAND, I'VE LOST COUNT OF THE AMOUNT OF TIMES I'VE HAD TO HANG ABOUT WAITING TO RETRIEVE MY EQUIPMENT BECAUSE SOME DRUMMERS TURN UP TO A GIG WITH NO EQUIPMENT AND EXPECT SOMEONE TO BAIL THEM OUT! I DONT USUALLY MIND BUT I'M GETTING A BIT BORED WITH UNPREPARED FOLK, ITS LIKE A GUITARIST TURNING UP WITH NO STRINGS TO ME REALLY!!

  13. Also...could you MAKE SURE that someone takes a good and in working order drum stool as i saw in the gig announcements that the in-house one is fucked. That cool?

Good idea, its amazing how this simple piece of furniture gets overlooked all the time!!

I aint taking mine though, its too cumbersome to fit in the car!! Plus i usually end up bailing out EVERY drummer at most gigs we play as no-one ever takes any drum stuff!!

    !

  14. Dennis Chambers. Chris (Element 106 drummer) told me about this guy so I checked him out. I love Gene Hoglans drumming' date=' the guy is a machine! and I still think that Dennis cant do the kick stuff that Gene can but as an allround drummer, Dennis gets my vote.

    Ok, [url']www.dennischambers.com

    then select videos

    then select spain 95

    then choose clip 4

Actually gel face, Dennis Chambers could piss on Gene Hoglan double bass wise also, didnt you see that drum solo i had on VHS?
