  1. ...If your demos sound awfull, why not book some time in the foyer recording studio, very cheap, excellent staff, only 5 mins from this message...

pah pahh pah pah pah pah pah pahh pah pahhhhhh pah pah pah pahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh pah ! (peal and dean).

  2. hog:

    it's truly a work of genius !

I was flipping from "closing time" to "alice", and its amazing the gap between them is 30 years !....I think He sold his soul to the devil for that voice, lasting as long as it has too !...

I went on a tom waits bender after being booted by the "who's tom waits" thread.

I still have to get :

bone machine and rain dogs...and I think I'll stop then !

    -----

I also forgot the new Bonny Prince Billy...I am trying so hard to get all "this is country n wester music...but its OK phil...." he he, I'll be line dancing next. (fuck noooooooooooooooooooooo)

  3. everything I've bought in the last 2 weeks (he he).

tom waits : alice & blood money

    funkstorung : disconnected

    def jux : 3

dj signify : sleep no more

papa M : hole of burning alms

    beauty pill : unsustainable lifestyle

but if you are after run of the mill formulaic "punk", I can't help , sorry. (ho ho)

  4. my most memorable thing in the old drakes was maple playing "smells like shite (teen spirit)" and everyone came onstage and was singing along (well, sort of)...dave dixon pops his head in and near shits himself at the sheer awfullness of the site...

    he he.

My best drakes (new place0 memory was the DJ set that Simon Mothboy and Sinky produced, watching the nice bar tender with the lovely undercut come up and say "stop playing that fucking shite as loud as you are" (dj Hell and Alec Empire), but he was quite happy when Black Sabbath came on full blast...

    ho ho..

    great places.

  5. there is a classic bit on a frank black bootleg playing an acoustic set (in Itally, If I remember correctly), he's playing a pixies song, and stops in the middle, he says : "and this is the bit that Albini cut out"...and plays a whole new part no fan had ever heard before....

That's the power of a "producer"...

Has anyone ever read the article that Steve Albini wrote about how Producers work ?

"the problem with music"....now that should get some blood boiling.

  6. I thought the original concept of "EMO" was the straight edge (near zealot like straight edgeness) faction of the US punk scene, kids who beat up other kids who drink, smoke etc...

now, just as punk is a bollox word meaning different things to different people, it actually means "nothing".

another lable, another pidgeon hole, another chance to belong to a group and feel "special", "individual" etc.

  7. the US based electronica Label "ad noiseum" has proudly presented my Video for the Horchata Video : cyst,

check their website , top billing...beautie.

Expect another video for : larvae "red line [version]" soon. (out on ad noiseum too) ( I did the artwork for the LP they put out)

  8. I soo wanted to go, al "fickle" n the boys have a shalet, and I am sure I'll be hearing all about it soon enough...bastards.

I wanted to see shellac and Tortoise for ages...and there was my chance...

I've a good feeling that new material from both bands will be out soon (the last time shellac played, they played the watch song, and about a month later, a new LP was out, with the watch song on it...)

Oh, how my fingers are crossed.

  9. hard to say, as the drum patterns are not based on the classic breaks (the shadows "apache" for one !)..

its the nature of the beat (to me) that defines it as drum n bass or not..

    (jungle = apache breaks etc)

(tech step = fast 4/4 + slow bass)

I don't know..if it makes my arse move, then I'm happy.

  10. bill n bob

    brill n cream

    drum n skin

its all the same...just at different speeds...

that means its all "reggae on speed"...he he.

remember, dance to the bass, not the drums...that's my top tip for lasting more than 2 songs on the dancefloor...

  11. tech itch : diagnostics

danny breaks : music for martians

roni size : new forms (double)

    alec empire : the destroyer

bill laswell : oscillations (1) (with Ninj)

    lamb : lamb

    Icarus : kamikaze

    photek : MO

source direct : excresising the demons

3rd eye foundation : ghosts (all done with "human beat box")

quoit : properties (mick harris, aka Scorn)

OHMs resistance do a magic range of "good old school" drum n bass 10 and 12" plates....he's (kurt Gluck) got heaps of decent acts on his home grown lable...worth checking out :
