The whole 60s kitsch thing has been really popular for the last few years so Russ Meyer is cool for the same reason Bettie Page is. Neither did anything particularly amazing or different but they've got names people remember for whatever reason.

Blasphemer! Bettie Page pushed the boundaries of pin-up modelling by entirely controlling her own career. She was one of the first celebrity glamour models. She was a business woman at the front of everything and made all her own decisions, often hiring her own photographers and selling the pictures on. She also pushed the boundaries of fetish modelling and helped inch S & M a little bit more into the mainstream with her spanking and bondage pictures.

Russ Meyer made a career out of not giving a fuck. He appreciated beauty and loved sex, so he made films about it. Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls is one of my all-time favourite films because it's so out there. The ending is entirely ridiculous and unexpected, the soundtrack is killer and way ahead of its time, the colours and the costumes have to be marvelled at. He's still influencing directors and films to this day. Hell, even the Austin Powers movies took so much from that one film, like the line 'It's my happenin baby and it freaks me out!'. These subtle influences go so unnoticed by the majority that people think he was just an over-rated idiot that liked bit tits.

you know how little people get from compulsary purchase? a lot of the time it barely covers their initial investment.

this year i'm doing the family trip to Tennessee to take in Dollywood, Graceland and Sun Studios. it's gonna be a blast!

the problem with the new route is part of it's over solid rock that's just not financially feasible to dig up, meaning the road will at one point take a gradient so steep that a lot of HGVs simply won't use it. and it'll be absolutely useless in the snow.

plus it's gonna cost something like double what all the other routes were gonna cost. the fact that the new route wasn't even on the proposals when it came to choosing means this whole thing will be held up in expensive litigation for years.
