i take it y'all know who frank turner is - if not WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!!!??? But some of you might not know who Dufus are... Dufus (DOO-FUSS) are a new york based acoustic/experimental/pop/psych band - involved in the NYC antifolk scene for near enough as long as its been started up, in the 80s. There music has be discribed as "Being thrust into a childs Drawing" and their live show "Phenomenal". In the recent past alot of antifolk artists/bands have passed through scotland (Lach, Thomas Truax, Schwervon!, Toby Goodshank..to name but a few) But it is their first trip to this country. Dufus put on the most exciting show ive ever seen an acousitc band do (cept maybe for sam beaton)! nor mine. Nothing too exciting here. Nothing wrong with a vocals, the recording is clear. But i can name a number of other local/scottish bands doing this style. And doing it alot better. Im gonna be at the East Neuk on the 4th none the less to cheak you out live.

i never make an effort for halloween but this year im gonna try pull out some stops. Im going to the tunnels - it was amazing last year. Anyone into brasseye? Im gonna go dressed as a 'pedophile dressed as a school'

In the early stages of making a zoghurt fanzine-fancy reviewing some local bands. thought id use this feedback forum as a start. Despise & Desire Yourself - Sam Beaton Relesed: 2006 Cost: Cant remember - 2/3 or something. Number of tracks: 9 For Anyone who hasnt seen Sam Beaton before - he is an Antifolk/Alternative Acoustic artist from some dodgy outskirt of Aberdeen. His CD 'Despise & Desire Yourself' is raw and honest. Like alot of young song writers i have seen locally really dont have the same grasp of song like Sam has. One moment you look deep into yourself, hypnotised by the soothing guitar and the next your heart races with excitement from the booming upbeat tunes. ofcorse there are a couple of laughs along the way. Tracks worth a mention: Boy who played in Traffic lights, Calmity Project, I feel im gonna die. Anything else: Cool wee A4 page with track list, info, zoghurt/sam beaton website & Short Story. 10/10 --------------------------------------------------------- Maps - Demo Cost: umm, think it was a swap for a Holy Folks CD Number of tracks: 2 Must admit i am still to delight my ears and eyes at a Maps gig but after listening to this CD im gonna make the extra effot. First impressions is: Wierd, poppy,Art rock, good times....its music i'd like to drive to. Momories of being at the beach and getting drunk also comes to my head. Really is hard to say anything about this demo other than its really fucking good. Maps are playing the Art school halloween party at the tunnels...i wont miss it! An apology? What for? In the end getting cut off was a good call. We were totally tanked...really stupid drunk. I couldnt play/sing anything and id didnt help i couldnt hear anything on stage, rushed getting set up..yadda yadda - just everything fell apart after the other bands taking so long..but in the end it wouldnt have done us any justice had we played on. But as for the other bands - not very fair taking all that time to set up then play forever. We only had a 30minute set and played bout 12minutes of it. Felt upset after that. Moorings is a cool wee venue! would love to be invited back but not as a way to say sorry. We'd play the moorings again but wait to get drunk after our set - trouble is there are too many tasty drinks! i dunno - we are still kinda a new band - but we have alot to offer and really wanted to play well as we really enjoy seeing gigs at the moorings. dunno what im trying to say. ...the holy folks are putting that gig down as experience...
