  1. Maybe at their own birthday party, alone in a dark corner, weeping through a chorus of "nobody likes me, everbody hates me just because i eat worms."

    Your current read?

Finished both the pop-math books (although one was more computer-historyish). Then read 'A Study In Scarlet' by Arthur Conan Doyle (it's the first sherlock holmes novel). I bought 6 shelock holmes books when I was in Blackwell's because there was a deal on. [3 for 2, 4.99 each] Awesome. An I'm about 50 pages from the end of the penguin classics compilation of H.P. Lovecraft stuff called 'Call of Cthulhu and other wierd tales' which kicks ass, as expected. Yaaaay, books. Exams are getting in the way, last one on friday though
  3. I had trouble parsing your ramble because you didn't close a set of brackets on line 4. I had a software testing and analysis exam today.
  4. BBC NEWS | Politics | EU treaty referendum is ruled out So they are keeping the bulk of the original document, changing the title so it isn't a "constitution" anymore and they think this means they don't have to have a public vote even thought they promised one? That's just nuts. I mean, the proposed referendum wasn't about the title of the document, it was about the contents of it! What the hell is Tony Blair doing? He just ploughs on with no regard for public opinion or facts or anything. Aaaanyway, thoughts/opinions?
  5. There are degrees that have a use?

    Your current read?

I finished the book about The Fall and also Moby Dick. Moby Dick was awesome. Ahab = legendo! There was a while there when I thought it was going to suck, but no. Currently reading some pop-math stuff.
  9. on the meaning of the word genuine: getting a copy of windows and then using a pirated serial number does not mean it isnt genuine. If I steal a porsche and use a set of lock picks to unlock the doors, does that mean it's not a genuine porsche?
  10. good stuff, because if there's one man that knows about where child abusers hide out it's the pope.
  11. Never really been a big fan of RTS. My small mind is incapable of holding keeping track of what all my little dudes are doing. I prefer FPS where I only have to worry about my main guy not getting shot.
  12. If Terry Wogan had commited a crime and was not going to face justice because he was Terry Wogan I wouldn't care who was shouting about it, because it's something worth shouting about.
  13. In war, as in chess, each piece has an assosciated value. Pawns are worth less than bishiops, bishops less than rooks etc... As the game progresses the value of these pieces change (as a pawn gets nearer to queening its value increases.) Like it or not Prince Harry is a very valuable piece (not directly, but if he was killed it would be a huge blow to the morale of the country and troops and let's not forget a huge boost to the morale of the enemy.) As such, I think utilizing Prince Harry as if he was worth the same as a normal soldier, when in actual terms he is worth more, just to prove a point would be foolish. Am I saying that a regular soldier is worth less than Prince Harry? On the battlefield as a target for the enemy in the context of this war, yes. Off the battlefield, no. However, if the people in charge judge that proving this point (the point being that Harry isn't getting special treatment and is just like everyone else and the Iraq war isn't a mistake etc...) is worth more than the potential loss of Prince Harry then they will send him anyway. In conclusion: if Harry stays they lose a little; if he goes and survives they gain a lot; and if he goes and dies they lose a lot. Will they take the gamble for a big win or settle for the small loss? It shall be interesting to see.
  14. People aren't getting worked up about a celebrity, they are getting worked up about someone not facing justice. It doesn't matter if they are a celebrity or a bus driver, If they are guilty of committing a crime they should face the punishment. Our whole society is based on the idea that if someone breaks the law they will be punished, if we stop "getting worked up" when they don't get punished well then what's the point of having the law in the first place?
  15. I was just making the point that cows need to be milked. Its up to each person to decide what that means ethically. Personally I dont care. I eat meat and don't see any ethical problem with that.
  16. I saw a show on the discovery channel (an episode of How It's Made) where they went behind the scenes at a high tech cow milking facility. Long story short, at that facility peple don't milk the cows, the cows choose when they want to be milked by going to a machine which milks them (without any human contact). Cows do get uncomfortable if they aren't milked. Edit: I believe this is the episode: However I dont have a good enough connection to watch it and check. Edit 2: It's the american version with a reaaaallly annoying narrator. Sorry, but the british one doesn't seem to be on there. You'll just have to put up with the annoyingness.
  17. Moral Majority leader Falwell dies - U.S. Life - MSNBC.com Jerry Falwell is dead. Yay Grim Reaper!
  18. This makes no difference to me as I usually celebrate a good mars bar by slaughtering a baby cow anyway. In all seriousness though, people seem to be saying its such a terrible business decision to alienate such a large potential market but I think it's pretty safe to say that before switching just about all their products over to this method of production the people at Masterfoods probably crunched the numbers and worked out they could make more profit this way. eg: Large number of customers does not always equal larger profit. If you cut down the price of production enough it will offset any drop in units sold.
  19. DustyDeviada: you're avatar + the picture you posted = discomforting combination.
  20. Paris' pardon plea laughed out of governor's office yaaaay.
  21. Banned Paris back behind the wheel | Metro.co.uk sigh. edit: better link
  22. Trepanation is an old, old technique. It's believed to be the earliest form of brain surgery. It's good for relieving pressure that builds up in the skull if you've recieved a knock on the head. It is surprisingly safe, since we know from old skulls that even thousands of years before modern surgical tools and techniques were invented people survived trepanation and healed. tremendously interesting.
  23. I completely agree. She should have gone to prison the first time. ( I originally wrote a long rant here about how the country will be better when I'm king, but it was silly so i got rid of it. )
