Looks like I need to put in some signature limitations...
-
I've now updated the first post to reflect how things work on the new web site. Same system in place - add your event to the calendar, it will be approved by a staff member and a thread then automatically created in this forum associated with the event. Events can also be RSVP'd to as before.
-
hahahaha!!
Yes neil please merge the two accounts if possible
I have no association to any other accounts on this web site.
Done. Can't find the theghostofcobain user account though?
-
Are you going to combine it with "theghostofcobain" as well? Ahem cough cough.....
Fair point.
As we now have the ability to combine user accounts this offer is open to anyone with multiple accounts. If you would like them combined into a single account then please let me know.
And may I remind people, having multiple accounts registered on the web site is not permitted. Consider this a multiple account amnesty period!

Ah, okay. I misunderstood.
So what Supporters and Sponsors (and Staff for that matter) can do is change their Display Name (e.g. MilnerD). This is the name that appears as the author of yours posts (this is not to be confused with your login name - which is normally the same, but can't be changed).
What you can't do is change your rank title which is what "Active Member", "Newbie" etc is. Staff can change this, but to be honest I'm not keen on this and I'll probably be resetting these back to match the ranks. Otherwise it's just going to get confusing (and that's my fault for not telling anyone how this all works beforehand!).
Milner, I notice you still have your old, banned account on here. Do you want me to combine the two accounts? That way all your posts will be associated with one account again.
-
aye, but the option isn't there even though we're supporters. i like the profile customisation too.
So how did you manage to change your display title, if you don't mind my asking?
-
Yes, can you please direct your questions relating to the web site upgrade to this thread please: http://www.aberdeen-music.com/index.php?/topic/52924-web-site-upgraded/
Supporters and Sponsors can change their titles, but regular members can't. It's another perk of becoming a Supporter/Sponsor now. I'll be updating the Supporter Scheme subscription page with more info in due course as there are other new benefits now as well (profile customisation for example).

Oh, why wasn't @tagging or even #hashtagging made available on the new site? Seemed like a nice idea, especially the @tagging one where you could tag a member. @Neil?
This forum software does support the tagging of threads (i.e. associating a thread/topic with keywords) but I've disabled this as it was openly abused the last time we had this functionality. I understand what you're asking for with the Facebook like @name idea for posts and I think it's a great idea, but the software doesn't currently have this feature. I'll do some research though and see what options are out there.
-
do you need to make me a moderator of the fudge/moorings pages, perhaps? i only have a 'delete' button under 'topic moderation'
Sorry Bri, this should be fixed now.
-
My supporter status hasn't been transferred, can somebody fix it for me please? Muchas gracias.
Yup, fixed. Same goes for Soda Jerk.
-
Cool, all sounds good. Is there a way to turn on notifications for when someone reps me (up or down)?
I'm afraid not.
-
I think Old Timer, Well Known etc relates to volume of posts (although possibly date of registration...).
Dots are how many people you've killed (says Lucky...but more likely to be your rep).
What friendly point things are you talking about?
Correct, Old Timer, Well Known etc are ranks and vary depending on your total number of points. The dots likewise. The more dots - the more posts. If you've got 6 dots then you're doing very well indeed.
Similarly there are reputation point totals (that can be positive or negative). I need to create some graphics for these though still.
You should be seeing the up and down reputation vote buttons on all posts now (except on your own posts and those made by Staff and myself).
-
Are the rep arrows showing on my/Lucky's/Frosty's/Dave's posts?
No, they shouldn't be - all Staff and Administrators should be immune from receiving reputation. You can still dish it out though.
-
If this thing back charges me for 43 years worth of subscriptions next month, me and you will be having words.
Ha, I'll be leaving the country. I'll be rich!
-
how does one pin/unpin posts? i can't find the (no doubt bleeding obvious) button...
View the thread in question, click on the Topic Moderation link at the top and then select Pin/Unpin.

Ok a weird one Neil, it says my subscription is due for renewal January 1 1970, i think we went past that date a wee while ago.
Current Package: Supporters Scheme
Purchased With: Paypal Subscription
Paid Until: 01 Jan 1970
This will be automatically renewed on 01 Jan 1970.
It's weird I know but the key thing is the PayPal subscription. As long as that in your PayPal account says it will automatically bill again in a month then everything should be fine (famous last words!).
-
It would appear i was still a supporter without paying.....i put that right today tho neil, not quite sure what happened there.
Thanks.
-
I'm not a supporter anymore?
Sorry, fixed now.
-
Hold on, we have a problem. I could bad rep Jake's post before my supporter status was given back to me, but now I'm a 'supporter' again (see Jan's other thread) I can't seem to rep anything?
Thanks, this should be fixed now as well.
Please note that only a maximum of 10 "up" votes and "1" down vote can be made in any 24 hour period by a user.
-
It looks like we can vote posts both up and down. Oh shit...
Also, I clicked on this thread and it took me to first post, not last read....
Yup, you can up vote and down vote posts. This is the new reputation system. There is a link to the highest reputation content on the forum home page I believe.

Not letting me edit my posts.
It won't after 5 minutes of the initial post. Although I seem to recall we increased this previously but I can't remember to what. Any suggestions? I don't want to allow people to be able to edit their own posts indefinitely.
-
It didn't work for me either to start with, but it works fine on newer threads (i.e. ones I've viewed post-upgrade).
Yep, unfortunately it appears what couldn't be migrated from the old web site is the record of which posts you have already read in any given thread. However, going forward the system should remember which posts you've read and which ones you haven't.
-
did Dave tell you to put that multiquote button in?
Ha, if only. I'm sure he'll be a frequent user of it though.

All,
After two attempts and many hours of upgrading the new aberdeen-music web site is now open! Please take a look around and let me know either by reply to this post below or by messaging me privately of any problems you may find or any other feedback you may have. I am expecting there to be a few teething problems as I have only had a limited amount of time to test the new web site so far.
I am also taking the opportunity to "tidy up" the web site somewhat and the following changes have been / will be made:
- The Local Bands Forums have all been merged into a single forum.
- Users with 0 posts and that have not logged into the web site within the last two years will have their accounts deleted. They are of course welcome to re-register.
- The hundreds of banned users for spamming will also be deleted over the next few days.
- The Supporters scheme will be further enhanced but the price will remain at £2 a month.
- Unfortunately the calendar entries could not be migrated from the old web site and so the Events calendar is currently empty. Like before, new posts in the Gigs & Events forum will automatically be added to the calendar and sop hopefully it won't take long to be populated again.
Please note that the list above will be revised over the coming days so please keep checking back.
Have fun!

Correct. There are limits which is you can only change your name 3 times in any one month and the history of changes is public. It goes without saying you can't change your name to someone else's. However, happy to disable this if people don't think it's adding any value. Further feedback welcome.
