  1. well, the last forum put the location in for you in the title so maybe people got out of the habit.  is the map function not supported on the new forum?

No, it's not supported. And it wasn't on the old forums either (it was a third-party addon that added that feature).

The Soundcloud link embedding was improved recently but unfortunately it looks like it has reduced any originally posted Soundcloud links to just that - links. They can be manually edited and re-posted though. I've manually edited the link in your signature and that seems to have fixed it (you just copy and paste the Soundcloud link back in to fix).

  2. hi, the events look a bit crap now.  any chance of getting the map function back and the venue in the title again?

Not any time soon unfortunately and people should be putting the venue in the title anyway as a matter of course. Or at the very least, in the body of the event.

  3. If you are looking for an external hard drive just for backup purposes and you've got a decent Internet connection at home/work etc then you might want to consider backing up to the cloud instead (e.g. Dropbox, Box, Amazon S3 etc.) It's much cheaper, more secure and avoids the false feeling of security that using an external USB drive gives like Chris points out. The only inconvenience is that you need an Internet connection to backup/restore, but if it's for stuff you won't be accessing often then this usually isn't a problem.

  4. I'm sure it is not meant to, but this comes across a bit douchey.

    Mainly the wording in

"This is starting to get tiresome"

Which sounds like the posts about his continued success are becoming tiresome as much as the fact the post is in two places on the forum.

    also here

"if it continues I'm just going to start removing some of these posts"

    Even the bluntness of

    "Less of the cross-posting please"

Why start with the word 'Less' like it is some solemn warning/order?

I've received warnings about stuff by private message before, so there must be some reason you did this publicly.

Maybe i'm just mistaken though, and you guys just love to play by the rules/paint inside the lines.

Umm...I think you might be reading just a bit too much into that post. The reason I posted it publicly rather than via a PM was just to serve as a warning to everyone else as well (cross-posting is bad, m'kay?). I can only apologise if my post came across as "douchey" to you (or indeed Tom for that matter) - it was certainly not my intent.
  5. I didn't realise that was against the rules. What should I do? it's worth mentioning in this thread...should I just talk about it?

It's fine this time, just don't make a habit of it. :)

Just concerned the News & Announcements forum is slowly turning into the Lockah forum.

  6. Unlimited data and tethering for much the same price I pay now for fuck all data. 3 and EE share coverage so my signal should, in theory, be as good as it is now. Besides in Banchory I mostly use wifi at home, the bulk of my mobile usage is in Aberdeen.

I seem to recall that the reason 3's network coverage can be patchy is because they only provide 3G services and no 2G network to fall back on.

  7. If people quote blocked users, you can read the blocked user's post. I am finding this irritating for two reasons:

    1. The stupidity/attention seeking of poster(s).

    2. Only getting half of a conversation.

Is this something that can be resolved?

In short, no this can't be resolved. This is always going to be a possibility if you block some users.

  8. Some further tweaks made today:

    • Members can now store up to 100 PMs (was 50 previously). Supporters and sponsors continue to have unlimited PM capacity.
    • For those allowed signatures (staff, sponsors, supporters) the following limits are now in place:
      • Max of 1 image in signature with no image larger in dimension of 600px in width and 150px in height.
      • No more than 6 links in a signature.
      • Signature cannot have more than 25 lines.
    • For those allowed to change their Display Name (sponsors and supporters) it can now only be changed once every 30 days.

I'll look into adding/changing the smilies as well.

  9. don't understand why people think you can't send personal emails at work. it's in EU human rights legislation, a small amount of personal correspondence is expected. Like "what we having for dinner? do you want me to pick anything up?" not constant chat all day obv.

Okay, sorry but this has got to be nonsense. Where in EU human rights legislation does it say people have right to be able to send personal e-mails in the workplace?

For the record, I've got nothing against this either. Hell, I'm posting this from work afterall. But I can't believe for a second that this is now a human right. Presumably it's also a human right to have a computer and a connection to the Internet as well?!
