anyone know the legalities of posting covers of tunes on facebook pages ? Is this allowed legally, or do you have to seek permission from the original publishers / authors / etc?

it's completely not for profit if this makes any difference.

Just play your own music and there won't be a problem LOL.

Seriously, there's very little likelihood of there every being a problem and even if there was they would simply ask you to take it down rather than chasing you for any compensation because you're not nor seeking to make any money out of selling it.

It's a bit of a grey area as to whether it's actually breach of copyright law anyway. It's more likely to be in breach of Facebook's own terms and conditions than be a valid legal argument (as copyright violation).

There's absolutely no problem with it at all. We had some spare studio time and for a laugh recorded a cover which turned out really well. We wanted to put it up on our myspace page but contacted the original artist first, and their management got back saying anyone can play anything they want.

Hi there. Any person can freely cover a song without permission. Just be sure to supply composer and publisher details if it is officially released. Upload for sure. Looking forward to hearing it.

Thanks,
