soulboy
Just wondering if there is enough interest in Aberdeen for a 60's night playing ska, beat, freakbeat, mod, soul, r&b, garage etc. by bands like The Action, |The Attack, The Creation, Small faces, The Who, The Kinks, The Poets, Prince Buster, Desmond Dekker, Maytels, Skatalites, Four Tops, Temptations, Miracles etc Plus loads loads more Or is just playing 60's too restrictive and should include 70's mod and ska revival, Indie and britpop. Let me know what you think. Would you attend ? Soulboy

soulboy
That pretty much describes Tuesday nights in Exodus. We usually get upwards of 200 people a night dancing to soul, mod, rock n' roll and 60's pop, with a smattering of disco by way of light relief. Ska and reggae are added where appropriate, but mix too many genres on a regular basis and people start losing interest.I never found too much call for freakbeat around these parts, although there is a small following for garage/psych stuff who could do with a regular night to service their needs. Don't expect them to dance, though.Didn't realise there was something in Aberdeen already. Haven't been to exodus in ages only went on a Sat though. As for your feedback on the too many genres not a good idea thats what I want to hear peoples opinions.soulboy

mikepx
60s nightyeah I used to dj nights in drummonds and lemon tree doing all that stuff and there was always an audience and always went down great. The only problem is that a lot of places wont risk that sort of night on say a thurs - sat because they think it wouldn't be popular but i never found that the case. But I would include stuff like jam, secret affair, two-tone, etc
bladeola
Aberdeen misses a night like Disco 2000 that used to be at the Palace on a Thursday night. That was kinda like what is being described here but more towards good indie stuff.
