Steven Milne
DIRTY HEARTS CLUB ::--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hey peeps,Two quality bands coming up at the Dirty Hearts Club!KID CANAVERALEdinburgh based band on the up and up.Kid Canaveral started properly in St Andrews, Fife in late 2003. They are David MacGregor (Voice & Guitar) originally from Glasgow, Kate Lazda (Voice & Guitar) from Reading, Rose McConnachie (Bass & Voice) from Glasgow, and Dan Sheehy (Drums) from Dublin. After a number of open stage nights, the band began to play at proper gigs, their first being an opening slot for King Creosote and the Fence Collective and Joy Zipper in May 2004. In the 18 months since they started playing together, they have released two EPs, both of which sold out, gained national radio airplay on more than one occasion, performed a live acoustic session for Star FM (St Andrews Radio) and have enjoyed gigging around Scotland, recently opening for KT Tunstall and once, even Tiffany... Now located in Edinburgh and St Andrews, Kid Canaveral are building on the energetic and vibrant live performances they are known for and have continued to bring them to a wider audience in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth and St Andrews, to some very impressed audiences, with aspirations to go even further afield. They play a mixture of Indiepop and Alternative rock. Let it pass was played on Vic Galloways BBC Radio Scotland show after winning a public vote in the summer of 2004. Tony Hancock won the BBC Radio 1 Session in Scotland demo derby the maximum 3 weeks in a row, the final week with a massive 73% of the public phone vote in November 2005. Live and Demo Reviews"The tunes are great...organic but powerful rock. They're definitely the next level up on the quality scale from the majority of local unsigned bands, and ought to become a live favourite for all those who can't be bothered with the massive impersonal outdoor concerts that are all you'll get from REM and the Pixies these days - Demo Review, Glasswerk.co.uk (Glasgow Site)"Edgy and imaginative guitar hooks, surely destined for beyond the indie disco and pub scene" The Saint"Kid Canaveral is an impressive band... [they have] found authenticity in using Scottish dialectical tones to give the grassroots edge...rounded and unpretentious. ...together, voice and band have a raw appeal uniquely fitting to the music, gritty hard Indie. Kid Canaveral have a lot of potential and ability. Overall: A solid night of charming earnest Indie-Rock!" - Live Review, 13th Note Cafe, Glasswerk.co.uk (Glasgow Site)'Kid Canaveral are heading for the stars' - The St Andrews Citizen"Edgy, passionate and endearing the guys and gals from St Andrews' indie rock is highly impressive. Faulty leads, broken strings and general bad fortune don't hamper the 4-piece from bashing out a selection of bloody good tunes...'Second Time Around' is unforgettable, while 'Sweet Service' and 'Tony Hancock' are prime examples of front man Dave MacGregor's writing ability. Evocative lyrics, super indie guitars and some striking girl/guy vocal dynamics, 'the Kids really are alright'. - Jock Rock Live Review-------------------------------------------------------------------------AND SUPPORTING BUT IN NO WAY LESS IMPORTANT...-------------------------------------------------------------------------FLAMING KATYEarly in the summer of 2005, Colonel Barrzo, formerly of Glasgow based power trioManganese, moves to the Granite City. Upon arrival he is inveigled into forming a new band with the artists formerly known as Sons of the Stage....
