Nice banjo!!! I am no expert but I think you might have a rare banjo there. Framus went tits up in 1975 (it was recession not the quality of gear that bankrupt them) So unless they have revived since then or its a copy it would be at least 31 years old. I think what would make it more collectable would be that its in yellow metal as opposed to silver. It might not be worth mega bucks but I would imagine its fairly unique. If its a Framus it would have been made in Germany.

Framus started up just after ww2 so its certainly not older than that, I reckon it would be early 70's when they jazzed up their instruments with intricate inlays and metal work. Their guitars were meant to be pretty good too, also quite collectable.

Doesnt look like its been used much, where did you get it?

Finally i would most definately say you have a finer taste in banjos than you do in socks!!!

I've got a Framus (Nashville I think?) acoustic guitar, the first guitar available by mail order in the UK, especially rare because it's 12 string, especially especially rare because it's made of pine. Pity being that it was in the back of my dad's mini when he crashed it back in the 70s and it got battered to fuck. Still sounds bonny though.

PS Framus are back in business and making guitars. I don't know about banjoes though.

my mum has a framus banjo very similar to that one. the metal bits are silver on hers, but the inlays look the same. she got it imported over here in the 70's so i'm guessing larry is right about the age. not sure where she got it imported from but took 6 months or something. she got it valued not long ago but i can't remember exactly how much she was told it was worth. think it was something like £200-£300 but i could be wrong.
