french_disko
Can anyone recommend a small, discreet microphone that can be used to record gigs (from the audience) straight to Sony HD Minidisc?
threeornothing
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15056&item=5794747821&rd=1Loads of these sorta things on ebay...dunno what they're like but for the price worth a look.Look into binaural microphones that fit in the ear for the ultimate in ear protection, discretionary recording and capturing the real sound of the gig. french_disko
Remember and ask the bands if they mind you recording them first though. Of course! I wouldn't want the wrath of the Kitchen Cynics coming down on me if I upset them!!!

badger
Yeah, Sony do some nice little discreet Stereo Mics, that look shit,, but actally reproduce a very nice result. Unfortunately they are about 80 -100, but I use several at work for conference recording, and they do their jobs very well. Why not try out something like this - http://www.giant-squid-audio-lab.com/I know a few people in Aberdeen(shire) who use them to excellent results. Mouse
Sony have a selection of mini disc mics in Bruce Millers. I used to use a pc mic to record practises at Toms. Wasn't that great quality, you had to hide it somewhere or the sound would get too distorted
french_disko
I might take a trip into Bruce Miller's to have a look then. Cheers for all the advice from everyone.
Guest ()Papaspyrou()
Not sure if it'd be worthwile or good quality, but you could try using one of those slender computer mikes. It might work pretty well.I recorded the Mars Volta live through a pair of headphones and the quality was great!
Joe Atom
Get the Sony ECM-719. I have one, and it's ace.
