Read what I was saying again. When I was a kid, I remember the majority of the school I was at being well into music, be it hip hop, rock or dance. I don't see that nowadays with the kids of today. How many kids do you see hanging about Belmont Street or going to gigs now?

And how has the internet fucked the indie record store? I assume you're not seriously asking me for evidence of that?

This thread is mostly really shit bands playing their unsurprisingly shit songs.

I still buy CDs for listening in the car, but most of my 'on the move' music is supplied by Spotify or 3G streaming of Soundcloud for bands without tunes on Spotify.

I used to like going into OneUp and buying a wad of music. I bought my first ever Sublime album in there and loved the band ever since. I also used to fund my underage drinking by selling old CDs I no longer listened to to the shop.

As has been mentioned several times in this thread, there's many reasons why OneUp will now be struggling - one that hasn't been mentioned and is a relevant one (in my opinion) is the changing of the music 'scene' - when I was 15 or so (11 years ago now), kids my age were into skateboarding and rollerblading (at least the ones I was friends with) and most of my weekends were spent skating round town, outside Queen Street police station to jump off the stairs and grind the banisters, and going into Elementz and OneUp. It was possible to buy an entire wardrobe from Elementz for me, and my entire music collection would've been bought from OneUp. I think I had an mini disc player at the time, so I would buy CDs and copy them onto mini disc to use when skating about.

Since then, Elementz has moved and from what I hear, is still doing really well - they have diversified into other markets as well, I noticed when going past they stock much more surfing gear than they ever did. They also sell more hip-hop based clothing, with brands like Sean John and Rocawear. They are no longer an exclusive skateboard/skating shop like they used to be, they sell a heap of other stuff to attract new crowds/new scenes/new people into their shop. OneUp doesn't seem to have diversified at all - it's the same set up it was 11 years ago. I've never been into vinyl so that's never appealed to me, but the feeling of being 15 and discovering all this new random music was great.

I don't see many skater 15 year olds wandering about Aberdeen now, it's all The Only Way is Essex and everything seems to be 'totes amazeballs'. There is no equivalent to 'nu-metal', what we had when we were kids. Kids now aren't into music as much as 11 years ago and the internet has completely fucked the indie record store.

Maybe we should just have an Empire Records-esque night, and save the shop. Now, who could we get to play on the roof?

Birdy was that bird that murdered 'Skinny Love' and Hatty Keane is the awful pop band Keane when they wear silly hats.

Tonight - nothing planned, probably get a pizza and DVD with my bird and my daughter

Tomorrow - shopping during the day, bird from work's engagement do at night

Sunday - no plans as yet, dropping the wee one off at her Mum's early- might go to the pub.

Tunnels wouldn't let you play there because of the under 18s things? I could be wrong but I'm sure I want to a gig in Tunnels 1 and there was a 16th birthday party going on in Tunnels 2.

I reckon you'd struggle for a venue unless you hired the whole place - Malt Mill capacity is 150 I think. This could be a bit left-field but I'm sure I read you can hire the VIP room in Institute (formally Liquid) for the night for under 18s - whether or not they'd let you have bands there, I'm not sure.

Uniform might've played it again Billy but I'm in Dingwall that day for the Aberdeen game. Sorry!

Central Coaches rented us an 8-seater tour van for a wee tour we did in the summer. Decent rates and big enough to cart gear around as well. We'll be using it again and I know that other Aberdeen bands use it too. I'm led to believe it may be the Xcerts' old tour van.

Looking for a single bass drum pedal, preferably an Iron Cobra but open to anything folk have kicking about.

Just seems like some promoters think that booking bands and chucking a message on Facebook is all they have to do to promote the gig and when the place is empty, they wonder why.

There is a line though - bands have to do some sort of promotion but it would be good if it was a fairly even split between the band and the promoter.

That's not really Drummonds' problem, but instead the promoters' problem... I think that's what you meant.

Drummonds are pretty decent for promoting but most of the non-promoter stuff is only marketed through Facebook - decent if you're friends with Drummonds Aberdeen or whatever, not so much if you aren't.

Aye that's what I meant - just seems like for some gigs, all the onus is on the bands to do the promotion where the bookers/promoters sit and do very little.

I can't be doing with promoters not promoting. You'd think it would be an obvious thing to do if you are a promoter, PROMOTE THE GIG. Oh, and spamming Facebook doesn't count either, especially for freshers as THEY ARE UNLIKELY TO BE YR FRIEND. Painting the venue orange will also not be a major incentive to come in either. Flyers perhaps?! A poster or two?? Telling people at the university about it!!!>?!??! I hate all that shit.

Not too keen on fatties in PVC either.

4 bar staff working in Drummonds on Saturday night at about 9pm, place was deid, bar staff all standing chatting. Maybe a good idea to go flyering as Belmont Street was heaving outside. Biggest problem with the place, limited or no promotion.

Orienteering will be joining us now, looking forward to this one.

My band, Uniform, are playing a Fresher's Week Party at Drummonds on Saturday 22nd September at Drummonds - one of our support band's singers has unexpectedly been called offshore so we're looking for another support band.

To save my going through the whole thread, did you ever get one? I have a spare.

I have a 'temporary' one but when it's got a ride, 2 crashes and hats in it, it feels a little weak - you wanting rid of yours?

I went on Saturday night and was a little disappointed to be honest. Think I built it up in my head too much - Campus is decent enough, pretty much exactly the same as Bassment, cheap cocktails etc, same decor pretty much. Music was awful, absolutely terrible. Full of students as well, shrieking and 'OMG'ing at every Pitbull or Minaj song that came on. Left and went to Garage. While queing to get it, there were a fair amount of folk walking past saying 'fucking shit' etc which did not fill me with high hopes. I've only been in Aurum once but it reminded me of there. Same as downstairs - awful music and the G2 isn't open yet. According to one of the bar staff, the 'rock' club part of Garage opens in a couple of weeks -they're playing chart music to 'get the punters in'. Now, I only have an HNC in Marketing but surely that defeats the purpose of trying to get repeat business - open it up as one thing and then change it completely. Barmaid said a lot of folk were saying it really wasn't what they expected. The Cathouse night should be decent though. Was a bit disappointed but as I say, may have built up a little too much. Had a textbook poo in Campus and the toilets are marvellous even if the floor was a little wet.

Sounds delightful. The place looks like a shithole too. Probably catch STDs just by standing in it.

Apparantly so Milner - from what I understand, Scottish Battle of the Bands intend on getting unsuspecting bands to sign up and then tell them they're songs must contain Biblical reference
