  1. i dont get it... Your all talking as if being in a band is such a bloody chore. Of course it costs money... but so do most hobbies! I scuba dive, i had to pay over 300 for my license and i have to pay about 50 for 2 days diving every time i do it. that gets me about 4 or 5 dives. Its expencive but its fun and i love doing it, so i pay it anyway. I love playing in bands, so i pay for practice rooms and stuff. Fair enough, if someone is going to offer me money, then im glad to take it, but im not gonna say "Hey you! i worked my ass off doing a gruelling 30 minute set for you! Give me lots of money now!" cos its not a gruelling 30 minute set... its 30 minutes of good fun (hopefully) entertaining people and making people feel good. I mean, if i can make a career out of running around on a stage once a day and having the time of my life, i will, but its not exactly hard work... And if you dont enjoy performing, or writing music, or practicing with your mates, You've probably picked the wrong passtime...
  2. I think the point trying to be made is that, some people will regularly go to the moorings as a bar and not have to pay, but when there are band there, they do have to pay, even if they are still wanting to use it as a bar and not a venue. Unfortunatley for them, it is, as said earlier, a bar/venue and when it is being used as a venue, you will have to pay to get in, the same as any other venue.
  3. And how much would you suggest a local support should be payed? 50 quid for an out of town headliner yeah? so... a tenner for support? 2 per member? wouldnt buy you a sprite mate. Iv been in a few bands before and personally, im happy to just play. I wouldnt expect to be payed if i was first on. Especially if im from the same city... Of course if i was travelling etc id ask for some money towards travelling costs, but i would never ask for a guarentee or anything. However, if the promoter decided to give us something afterwards, im not gonna say no though... Could be an edinburgh thing! Hard to find a venue for less than 400 here which, in turn, majorly cuts into the promoters takings, and thus, means they have less to give the bands. How much are venues to hire up in Aberdeen?
  4. Im inclined to agree here to be honest. 10 a night isnt gonna get you far while trying to run a big fat van full of amps, kits and people, insuring said van, amps and kit and trying to feed yourself. And most of the bands i know that toured just slept in their van or camped out somewhere. So they clearly arnt making that much money. Lets face it, 10 years ago, 50 would have been alot to ask. Now a chippy costs a fiver... At most gigs, only really the headliner, and maybe first support will be getting payed anyway, unless the promoter decides to give the other supports a cut of the profit for their bother. So even if the headliners got 50 and the first support got 30, thats still only 16 people you need through the doors to pay the bands off. And if your paying 50 for a band, youd expect them to pull 16 people...
  5. Given the current arguments going on in this thread... What in hell made you think it would be a good idea to post that... o_O
  6. Sorry dude, both vocal slots are taken. Just a drummer left to find. If you know anyone that might be interested, let them know we are looking. Cheers!
  7. Still looking for a drummer. Ages of the band so far span from 17 to 21.
  8. Go and link we to the first worst thread ever =)
  9. Yup! And you know your only selling your soul for the big "VAIO" badge on the front cos the rest of the workings are the same as every other laptop...
  10. lol@appleeverything... Sept the air one. Im a bit of a power freak when it comes to computers, but id buy one of them in a second if i had the money...
  11. Give us a wee bit more info? what kinda stuff you wanting to play, any previous experience etc.
  12. Love to, but im a student =P cant afford such luxuries! haha! And kimy, It was easier to get a band if i was a begginer and 14. Much harder to find a bunch of begginers at 17/18. Most ppl ht play by that time have been playin for a while.
  13. Im selling a yamaha RBX 270 in cherry red. Never been played. Never even been taken out of the box... (dont ask...) I believe they RRP at 150-160. Im selling mine for 120. Any offers?
  14. Aye its just hard to get in a band at my age when your not very good =P I really enjoy playing and practicing and stuff. i just dont seem to get much better! haha!
  15. Was that meant to be a dig at underagers... Cos i know a couple of amazing bands where the guys are all 16/17. Infact the best drummer I've ever met is only 16. He has a big fringe and wears skinny jeans and tank tops. Still a great musician and a great guy. Dont see why fashion should effect peoples opinion of the music anyway...
  16. Aye down in Edinburgh, most of the bands just hate each other and put each other down... I dont get it =S
  17. Yo dude. im afraid both the guitarist spots are taken at the moment. As is bass. However, one of the guitarists is a few years older that us (and considerably more talented) so he might end up not fancyin it after all. If a spot opens up, ill let you know!
  18. Hey dude. Myself and a mate are movin up to Aberdeen mid september. We are starting a band up there aiming towards the hardcore side of your influences. We currently have 2 guitarists, a bassist and me (screamer), but are looking for a second vocalist. Get a kinda Parkway Drive effect goin on. On top of that, we are still looking for a drummer and maybe a synth player (7 piece band could be a laugh! =P) Me and my mate are 17, but the bassist is 20 and the guitarist is 21 so age isnt too much of an issue. Let me know!
  19. I agree. I think getting as much good advice as possible can rarely create bad results. Its up to the musician to make their music their own. As my music teacher at school used to say, "First we will teach you the rules of how to write good music. Then we will teach you how to break those rules."
  20. Oh and by the way, we are 17 coming on 18 years of age.
  21. ahaha! if only i didnt like half the bands playing at deenfest... =P
  22. me and my mate will most likely split the 70, 35 each when we move up to Aberdeen mid september. Cash in hand, you dont have to bother posting.
  23. ooft! wont be cycling home then... haha! but yeah... anyone got a bike they can sell me? just for the sake of gettin around a wee bit quicker...
  24. nah iv not been playing guitar since i was 14. i was a singer in a few bands when i was 14 and the other members (and myself) were all umm... rather technically challenged. But you could get away with it... cos you were 14 and no1 expected you to be good =P
