  1. any developments on the venue front.... dont let this fizzle out.

Dont worry I am certainly not letting this one go! My friend in my band is still trying to speak to Sandy at the Blue lamp about it but its all about timing etc. I think it would be hard to get anything kicked off before the year is out but with any luck I will hopfully have some development soon so we can start to plan an advertise it ready for a fresh start early in the new year and we need to get everyone who likes this sort of music to turn up and turn up often as thats the only way it will survive!

  2. Been thinking recently I want to invest in a decent cam corder to record live gigs etc. Wanted to know if anyone could recomend a good all in one digital video cam that will have decent sound quality even if you just plug it in and record at a live gig as most usual ways people tend to capture live gigs on youtube using their phone or a digital cam that has a recording option, the sound is always terrible! I know some have the ability to plug in a mic to get a better sound from the recording? Anyway feel free to recommend some.

  3. Would that Roland kit be a lot better than a lower priced Yamaha, then? I've heard of folk getting electric kits for ~£500, which have ended up breaking/needing pads replaced very quickly. Do you think you need to spend an arm and a leg for it to be worthwhile. most of the kits on wembleydrumcentre are ober £1000.

Mate I've got a Roland kit at home. Got it second hand and it's ace. It's the Td-42 like in this link. Your welcome to come try it out. Better than Yamaha I would say personally:

  4. Got some stuff im not using at the mo so if there is anything that takes your fancy get in touch:

Limited edition 13inch Craviotto Ash snare - used twice. One of 150 ever made.

Pearl Eliminator hi hat stand - only one issue is the chain for the hi hat one of the pins has come out. Easy to fix or find replacement part etc.

    13inch K Hybrid trash splash

    14inch K mini china

    10inch Pearl maple effects snare

  5. Thanks for the comments guys. I'm just putting it out to see what sort of response there is. Somewhere like the Blue Lamp would be perfect and one the members of my band I think knows the manager. The main thing with anything like this is that it needs regular commitment from a core group of people so I guess my next question would be if it was set up would you turn up and would you play?

  6. Tuning for me has always been a personel thing. Its your sound at the end of the day. But also tuning a skin the same on 2 different snares will sound different. If its wood, steel, brass etc makes a big different. I manly use wood snares and tend to like them very high pitch depending on what im playing. When I tune I do a few things - first have the snare "off" the drum so you can heard the sound without it. Tighten even bolt evenly and always go opposite each other not round the eadge. Also if the bottom head is not tuned right it can case all sorts of problems so I would check that. When you have tightened all the bolts, go round the snare which a stick where each bolt is and make sure each hit sounds the same - this is an easy way to make sure they are all even. A neat trick is that if you want to change the sound of your snare just for one song is to lossen one or 2 bolts, probllay on the opposite side of the snare from where you face it, which completly changes the sound - its then easy to tighten them back up again to get your usual sound back. Also I use "moon gel" which is a great bit of kit - very cheap as well. They are small bits of gel than you can put on your snare to dampen the sound. Really handy tool. Hope this helps.

  7. Hi all

I just wanted to post this here to hear peoples thoughts on the issue. It accured to me there is not many, if any, good regular Blues/Rock nights that are regular in Aberdeen. When I was growing up down south there was a host of pubs that ususally had this sort of thing on a weekly basis. It was always free and ran by local musicans for local musicans. I have always had the feeling Aberdeen has been more of a metal city than Blues or Rock so I just wondered if there would ever be interest for such an event if one was to ever get going?

    Cheers

  8. Any double bracketed snare stand is ideal, and same goes for the stool, if i can sit on it then that's fine. I'm too skint to invest in anything that will last forever but i'm only a part time drummer anyway so should last me long enough :)

The pearl is double braced. The stool has tube legs I think so it depends what your looking for. Pm me and we can go from there.

    Cheers

  9. Hey do you still have one of the thrones and one of the snare stands? My throne just gave in on me, must be putting on weight, and i need a snare stand for a tom, is it double bracketed?

    Hi there

I don't have a PDP snare stand but I do have a pearl one if that helps? Also I do have one of the stools left. It's just a generic music stool but would do the trick.
