  1. Yeah i must admit i don't think i have ever liked a typical "house" drum kit as most are battered to hell! Mind you thats even more picky than me only buying drums with a satin finnish lol. But 3 of my kits are sparkles so i guess i like those alot for some reason - think its becuase of when the light hits it on stage or so it really stands out better. Cool heads - as i say im not used to Evans heads yet. But i do LOVE the EMAD bass drum head from Evans. Its such a good idea and it makes even a cheap kick drum sound ace.
  2. Hmmm well its not umcommon to what your stuff to match but yes i am picky about it. hence why i went with Pearl to begin with and they have great drums, hardware and their percussion an't that bad either. Cheers for the heads up about snare as i wil prob get one soon. But if you check out the new cat online from their website the new snares look fantastic as they use the same lugs as the series kit and it has a new strainer so might go with that instead:up:
  3. Cool cool - ive nver realy used a Powerstroke II so can't compair but the Aquarian I looks like a thinner head than im used to so it much even be more punchy:up: Regarding the Evans heads - to be honest i know what your getting at. However im very picky about everything matching on a kit. As in if it has Evans on the top, it has them on the bottom etc. But i would of course do it on 1 kit first to see how it went. The one i want to change is my Pearl as ive seen A few drum clinics with pearl players who use Evans i think it sounds much better on a Masters kit. You said you god, or had, a Premier modern Classic by any chance?? What they like? Ive only ever played a standard 14, by 5.5 inch. Ive heard bad reputation about the nickleworks strainer being fragil though!!
  4. Yeah ive been thinking about changing to evans for a while now - but the more kits you have the more expensive it is to re-skin the top and bottom of every hear:down: Ive literally just 1 hour ago taken deilvery of my Premier Series kit and its got a Aquarian "Super kick 1" on it - any idea what thats like as i won't get to hear it until next band practice.....(sign)
  5. Oh i get you:-) Yeah for my snares i think i mainly use Emproer (can't spell haha)
  6. Cool - CS dot? Is that a thicker skin for louder music???
  7. Right so heres the thing with me - i think im picky as a drummer. For starters i can't stand nicks, marks, scratches on my drums. When ive had it happen before ive ended up selling the snare/kit. Am i alone here lol? Also really picky about sound, again drummers spend years trying to perfect the perfect sound and im always trying to enhance my drum sound. Skin choice is obvously really important - i love high pitched ringy sounds where the drums are open. So i tend to use thinner skins. But for bass drum i like it punchy so at the moment its the good old Remo Powerstroke 3. What about you?? what skins you use and what sound do you prefer?? Drummerboy
  8. Bass player needed for function band. Over 40 dates confirmed this year already. Need to be dedicated etc but in return you well get a decent return on gigs and alot of them. Stlye is anything from 50s rock until present day so will need to be flexible and be able to play at semi professional level. Please get in touch if your interested and serious. Cheers Drummerboy
  9. Ayotte drums are really good - but they come with a big price tago_O
  10. The free floaters are nice! I used to have a 14 by 6" brass model. And i used to play Sabian but then went to Zildjian. But they are good cymbals mate - chad smith uses AAs and AAXs and his kit sounds fab! I love the Dave Weckle Evolution series:up:
  11. The tama wooden hooped ones are nice. Not heard this snare but it looks ace. However, as has been mentioned, if you are prone to rim shots it will dent the hoops - ive seen it to many times haha.
  12. Na the point i was making is its funny how an artist has his/her own stuff and then they don't use it much you know - its like false advertising! I mean steve white has his own Vater sticks but apparently he always uses Chad Smiths8-) and yeah i agree there is nothing wrong with "cheap" snare drums - ive got a firecracker which is fun. But i think its funny how they can add 100 quid onto the price tag just becuase it has someones name on it. Omar Hakims 13" African mohogamy snare is one of my fav sig snares i must admit.
  13. Haha fair do's. It must have been late when i read it.
  14. Arseholes?? Hmmmm well i did say it was not intended to be bitchy but obvously that was lost at the begining. Everyone has an opinon and thats kind of what blogs are about mate - not everyone with like Sonor or indeed Pearl or Premier. But ive heard the Evans EMAD bass head and it makes even a budget kit bass drum sound good - heard it on an export and had to look twice to see that it was not a more expensive kit. Ive currently got a Remo powerstroke 3 and it is a good head but it retains to much of the sound.
  15. Yeah i must admit i have a soft spot for Tama Star classics - especially the new hyper drive sizes. Sweet!!!!!! lol
  16. Ok not to sound bitchy here but i actualy came to see Soul Fricken Hot at the blue lamp last year and i was practically 10 feet away from your kit and i was'nt impressed. Again i was 10 feet away from Gavin Harrison at the porcupine tree gig last year and he has the same kit - again thought it sounded rather dull. It might be just my opinion on what sounds i like - i like ringy toms and punchy bass drums. To be honest the kit ive got sounds best with Evans heads and not the Remo ones which come with it - Dennis Chambers and Horarico Horednez (can't spell his name lol) both use Evans and they get their kit to sound much more hot i like it so i think im gona change to Evans soon. Again this is NOT to be bitch about your sonor and the finnish is to die for - just did not live up to the sound for me.
  17. LOL really?? Chad smith snare? You know its practically an export snare with a different throw off? He does not even use it in real life much - he only uses it for drum clinics. In the studio aparently he uses Brady snares alot. I like the Ian Paice Snare though - the lug locks are a good idea. Wish more new snares had them as standard....
  18. SWEET! keep it comming guys:-) Ok nice kits here - Big fan of DWs. Not a huge one of Sonor even though ive got a jungle kit lol. I know the feeling about having a sperate "gigging kit" than the one you normally use - i was scared to take my Pearl kit out. My mums sending me my Premier series kit this week so can't wait to get it out the boxes! Has anyone ever had/played one? I was hooked after going on a course with steve white. Hmmm i really need to by a metal snare...
  19. Haha well you know what they say - while a girl is for christmas, a drumkit is for life!!:-)
  20. Ok guys i was basically wanting to know what is considered "drumming mad" as far as how many drum kits you own?? I live in a one bed studio flat and yet i have 5 drum kits and i think about 12 snares! Is this to much lol??? Also what equippment do you use as a drummer? Im sort of a geek when it comes to gear - love hearing what other folk use:up: As for me here are my kits: Main rig is a speical edtion Pearl Masters in red sparkle (my picture). FVF custom acrilic kit (think Travis Baker lol) Sonor Jungle kit Premier Series maple 1960s Premier rosewood (Like Ringo had before the Ludwig) Drummerboy

  23. Hi guys. Right im getting my Pearl Icon Rack sent up here soon and im gona sell it as im going back to using just tom stands. Its a really big rig and it has literally loads of cymal arms and clamps etc. Ive not actually priced it up yet as ive forgotton exactly how much i have lol. Im basically posting this to see who is interested as i will be getting it up in Aberdeen shorty. PM me if interested. Cheers! Drummerboy
