  1. Cheers for the info and help guys, I'm sure I'll enjoy it, I was down scoping out the place and the locals seem really helpful and friendly. Let two years of drunken debauchery commence! Ah I probably should actually do some studying though! Thanks, any other hints about nice areas for flats or decent part time work? Cheers.
  2. Hey I'm heading down to Ayr for Uni in September, ws just wondering if anyone knew anything about the local music scene down there, places to go/avoid etc. (Please don't put Ayr itself!!) Cheers:up:!!
  3. Hey thanks to all the acts who got in touch about playing the July Sessions, we have our line-up complete and I'll be posting it shortly. anyone interested playing Augusts sessions give me a shout! Incidentally the August sessions will be my last, before I head off to Ayr for Uni, not to worry though the Sunday Sessions will continue in someone's (yet to be confirmed) capable hands. I would just like to thank all the acts who have played the Sessions over the last few months and helped to make the night what it is, and just hope with your help that it continues to grow as an event. Cheers!
  4. Why Mr Pot, pray tell why you call me black???? This paragraph itself smacks of small mindedness, ignorance, sweeping generalisations and dare I say it racism are you Aberdonian yourself and suffering from some bizaare form of self loathing? Are you one of those Emo's??
  5. Thanks for that Dr Lecter, I was going to reply but I feared being drowned out by talk of who bakes the best loaf (when we all know it's that small child in the Hovis advert ... sexually abused though he may be the boy can bake!) I completely agree about the arts forum and good to hear about the skinny the List are also starting a section dedicated to Aberdeen in the near future (further gossip from the networking event). To reply to the quote I completely agree with him that we should not wait around for the Peacock art centre to become our saviour as it were, I happen to agree with you (Dr Lecter) that Aberdeen has a great Artistic community the problem is that it's too disjointed at the moment, this is where the Peacock centre can help. Until then I believe the only way forward is to 'talk about it!' without communication we won't get anywhere. I would recommend any and all who are interested, to join creative cultures scotland (google it!), and head along to the next netwoking event, it may be of some interest! The Free vino and food are a pretty good incentive to head along as well!
  6. Heres a link to the plans for the new centre. Plans for new Centre for Contemporary Art take a step forward - Peacock Visual Arts :: 01224 639539 ::
  7. The big problem with Aberdeen as I see it, is the lack of communication between the different sectors of the artistic community. I was recently at the Creative Cultures Scotland Networking night, I was speaking to the guys from Peacocks Visual Arts Centre and there plans for the new Art centre on Union Terrace garden look pretty awesome, they see it as a sort of creative Hub for aberdeen with bands playing (did I mention the seven bars yet!!) artists, plays and all sorts going on. My belief is that the arts sector holds the key for Aberdeen moving forward as a city (the oil is going give it fifty years or so!), unfortunately the council are having some difficulties (understatement of the century), but i was speaknig to the guy in charge of grants for the creative sector and the funding is still there for projects you just have to be a little bit more creative about how you apply for it. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Aberdeen can be as good or as bad as you choose to make it, the choice is really up to you whether you want to put the effort in. But I reckon the new Union Terrace Arts Centre is definately a step in the right direction. F.Y.I they have currently raised 10 mil for the project they still require another 4 mill , so dig deep lads! Haha!
