  5. Posters? Websites. For the info and a shameless plug for AGP MySpace.com - ABERDEEN GIG PROMOTIONS - 26 - Male - UK - www.myspace.com/aberdeengigpromotions - all the gigs Ive put on and will put on will be 14+ unless its a late night club show which starts later or something specific is required by license etc. We'll have some exciting stuff confirmed for early next year very soon! And also for the record a lot of the Drummonds gigs are 14+ - being manager there now every one I have worked has been - again unless its a late night show. Unless an outside promoter decided differently there is generally no issue. I think all gigs should be open to 14+ - lets not forget that these people are going to be the ones keeping the live music scene alive - If they dont get interested now, whats to say they will be up for lots of gigs when they are old enough. None of my shows have had any problems as a result of being 14+
  6. Ah the good old sensible comments on this forum just continue!!!

  10. Tickets still left at One Up! You can prob still get from Disco Filth if you like or ticketweb.co.uk Otherwise just pay at the door on Sat! Peter & The Wolf had their Glasgow show pulled but are being kind enough to travel up in the train for this one so lets make it worth their while! Its only a 5 and three great bands! 7.30pm! 14+ xxx
  11. The Filling Station was CAFE UNO at one point - I think directly before becoming what it is now?
  12. There are a few of those relatively pointless advertisng board things the council have something to do with - one outside M&S and one beside Rileys on Chapel Street. Theres a number you can call to get posters put up on them. Dont know how much it costs and they tend to be ignored i would say. I dont mind they dont want flyposting but there should def be an alternative. In general most bakers/newsagents with space, other venues, music shops, cafes etc will allow you to poster but yeah it is difficult for more than a couple of shows.
  13. Theres always been door staff as far as I am aware. Its part of any venues license that they must have door staff if its open until 2am. Most of the gigs at Drummonds are 14+ as with most of the gigs at Tunnels.
  14. PETER & THE WOLF plus support from The Trade and Disco Filth Sat 22 Nov @ Tunnels 5.00 - 14+ Tickets at One Up, Welcome to TicketWeb! and on the door PETER & THE WOLF recently rocketed in popularity after the use of their song "Make It Alone" in the BBC 3 comedy hit Massive. The song provided the opening and closing credits soundtrack and the band even made a cameo apperance in the final episode of the series. It should be said though that this is no novelty band. The remainder of the material shows a great depth of talent with trademark jangly guitars and a fun sound all round. The night is completed by the welcome return of THE TRADE. Possibly one of the most hard working, entusistic and of course damn good bands to have played with us, it is always a pleasure to see the enjoyment their huge fanbase up here gets every time they come back. One not to miss And local favourites DISCO FILTH open the night with their own brand of indie. Always a treat live. It never gets dull watching this band so get along early! MySpace.com - AGP - (Peter & The Wolf tix on sale now) - 26 - Male - UK - www.myspace.com/aberdeengigpromotions - ALL the bands are in our top friends if you want to check them out!
  15. Yeah of course you make a very good point mate. I do always try to speak to bands. I apologise that I didnt to you guys. Back when I started I was always working until 5 or 6 and so didnt get down to the gig til soundchecks were going on and by the time that was over I was organising doors opening etc etc. Anyway its no excuse. I think I have improved since you played for me and certainly take everything on board. Of course its courtesy to spaek to people and I wouldnt say Ive ever avoided it on purpose. I do however appreciate how it appears to bands like yourself though that have felt like I havent made the effort.
  16. As has been done before - I am quite happy to keep tickets at the door for bands who dont want to hang around the door all night. I dont expect them to. With regards the payment structure - I was slagged off for supposedly not paying bands who made no effort so now I am - it a fair scale. Are you saying someone who gets 100 people along for example should be paid 30 like a band who takes no one. I feel theres a little bit of an unrealistic idea of what local bands should be paid. I bring mostly up and coming headliners who will be on something around 100-250 in general so I think that on the scale I have and the past sales I would say no local should be going away with less than 30-40 which I think is alright. Its the way I have chosen to do and thats that! Everyone is entitled to do it however they want. If it doesnt work I will review it! As for my reputation being dented by asking for band members names and ages - why is that a problem?? If I have a 14+ gig I will then know who is suitable If I have an 18+ gig I will know that I cant have the under 18s - makes perfect sense to me! I am sick of this thread now so will not be reading it again, but again thanks for the constructive feedback and to those bands who feel they should only be there to play the gig, good luck cos you wont get anywhere. Even touring bands still make the effort - ie their labels buy 30+ tickets to a lot of my shows from me for competitions etc - they send me 100s of posters quite often etc etc - even at that stage they arent naive enough to think its ALL the promoters job. Yes, most of it is but not all. Thank you and good night! PS I am aware like a lot of the people that comment on here that even though I am just making my point, I am probably coming across like a twat, however I would urge you to speak to me personally about any of this if you really want to justify calling me whatever you have been and still have a probelm. I am just trying to do a job! Cheers
  17. For any confusion on payment the structure is on the website in the blog section Most of my headliners are on % based contracts after a guarantee so if Im guaranteeing a headliner say 100 and then a share of the door after they have been signed, have albums out, have done many tours - I dont see it as unfair to give the local supports a similar based deal and an opportunity to play with these bands. For thsoe saying they dont have time to sell and their mates just pay at the door, well sell your mates a ticket at the door! Simple! In the case of whoever mentions the promoter who didnt let a band play becasue they didnt sell tickets - I would never operate a pay to play policy like some promoters - simply ask for a bit of effort and will continue to do so
  18. Yeah well thats a rate for selling no tickets whatsoever - if you make an effort then yoiu can get upwards of 75 and if you make a proper effort then you get 50% of the face value meaning even on a 5 ticket you could be looking at 150-200 which in most cases is more than the headliner! Like I said why should the bands that make the effort get the same pay as those who dont! Simple!
  19. Well, I think to put this to rest now .I have a few final things to say... Firstly I will once again say that I have been promoting for a year and yes, Ive made mistakes and yes I know I can improve. Its a learning curve! I have taken on board everything said and fairs fair will attempt to make some changes! Firstly after the two shows I have in November we will not be doing any shows Dec/Jan time but when we come back in Feb... 1 - There will be a payment structure in place for ALL local supports to guarantee them money. This will still be based on the effort made on ticket sales but will take into account the fact that gigs on certain nights will be harder to get people to than at weekends etc. Each band will start with a minimum of 15 (which yes is not a lot) but will then have a scale to work to up to a maximum of 100 for selling 60+ tickets with various steps along the way (it is possible - eg The Trade not even from Aberdeen but regularly manage it up here anyway, Disco Filth etc etc) We will as standard issue contracts to supports detailing this in advance of the show to avoid any confusion. 2 - We will continue to use myspace as a promotion tool and are not ashamed of that. We will however attempt to advertise on one ad for all shows in that time period rather than taking up youre comment section with masses of separate adds. It is fairly easy to refuse these ads if anyone still doesnt want to get them. Surely its slightly less annoying that the porn spam? Actually Id prob rather see that too Hopefully that will erase the two major problems people here seem to have with what we are doing. ___ I also take on board that the wording of the website could be seen as being against local bands - This will be changed to again avoid any unintentional offence caused, though I do have a big thank you to the local bands on the main page already and as Ive said manage 2 local bands as well as being the promoter who has probably put on one of the larger amounts of local bands in the past year. ___ In terms of the argument that it is soley the promoters job to make a gig busy then I dont agree completely but am prepared to say that fair enough, if you dont care if people come to see you then good luck. Maybe you just do it because you enjoy it but from djing I know i enjoy it more if people are there. It cant be fun playing to an empty room. People arent going to come to see you just because I put posters up and advertise for the healiner and if they do its a sad affair but they are likely to largely ignore you anyway. I do know how hard it is, I try to get my friends to all my gigs too and I know its not always easy. Its the effort I appreciate. Im not in this for the money. I take losses fairly often but thats part of the business I have decided I want to do. ____ Finally if Ive pissed anyone off please talk to me and I will try to sort it out. Im not doing what i do to get slagged off, I do it because I love music and I want to continue bringing quality bands to Aberdeen and yes, continue to give the local bands the opportunity to play with these headliners. And on the note of Calum from The Underkills, I appreciate the fact you have messaged me and no hard feelings to you (or anyone else for that matter. Given we all want the same thing - a vibrant music scene in Aberdeen - then its prob best we all stick together! Cheers!
  20. By giving bands an opportunity to play with headline bands though, its not exactly a big ask for them to take some people with them. I know people work but how hard is it to get mates from work along to support you. Surely as bands you would rather have people watching you? Having done many club nights DJ wise I always made an effort to text all my friends etc to try to make the night more successful and look better. Thats all I ask. Im not expecting miracles!
  21. I will stop taking this to heart now and stop responding for now anyway! xxx
