  1. I've done this a couple of times.

TIP: Sand the underside of the saddle so that you can keep the string spacings.

What I found would help was to mark the area you want to remove either with with a ruler and a scribe or razor blade etc. Don't use a pencil or pen as it will wear off during the sanding operation. Make sure it is square all the way round and then start sanding. This way even if you do go slightly off the square, can see where you need to sand to bring it back flat again. Check the progress often.

BTW, it can take a long time as same saddles are hard as hell.

  2. Melodymaker.jpg

I guess this is it then! How does it compare to the 56? Apparently they all have the same pickups.

I thought about picking one of these Melody Makers a while back but I couldn't live with the satin finish.

Yes that's it. How did you do that??

Up until now I think it's pretty good. I measured the output of the pick up and it's in the same ball park as the 56RI. Sound wise it's seems less heavy handed than the 56, but I suppose that comes down to having less wood behind it. It seems preety good for the punk stuff we are doing. I will be playinf with the band today so I will find out how it cuts through etc.

Finish wise I would have to agree, but I wanted it to take out and gig etc rather than the 56. Plus it looks like it will wear pretty quickly The neck is already getting a bit of a shine to it, as is the top edge where my arm rubs whilst strumming. I think it will look pretty cool in a few months time.

Thanks for getting the pix up.

  3. They are over-rated because the practice of elevating people to super-human status on the basis of music is stupid and representative of our society's tendency to find meaning by clinging onto celebrities, sob-stories and the kind of rags-to-riches fame everyone believes they can emulate.

    Eh?.........

  4. From his checking of Vintage & Rare etc. they have been going for mid to high 4K so, given his ones condition, he deems that fair.

    Doubt he'd sell it however.

Anyway, all the best finding something dude!

I wasn't having a go about the price really. Thanks for posting the pic anyway as it's a nice guitar. I just can't justify that sort of money to bang out some 3 chord punk stuff.

  5. I played one of those SG Classics in Merchant City Music, nice guitars and just so damn cool.

I was surprised how different it sounded to my 54 though, more like a Strat or a Tele. Interesting how much difference the body makes.

    That's why I fancy one:up:

  6. Yes, I have a 2001 1954 Les Paul Reissue, normally they are goldtops, but this is a limited edition flametop model, thanks for asking.

Aye nice guitar. I know they are normally gold tops, as I have a 56 RI. I was looking for a slightly lighter guita, hence a SG Classic or something like that, a Gordon Smith for example.

  7. Sup...I found an amp sitting in a bus stop outside sommerfield on union street, on tuesday at 5am...its an old, small light weight 5 watt amp no brand name on it...not really worth anything other than maybe sentimental value...if you have lost or had an amp stolen I'd be happy to return it to you upon a matching description (It has some very unique qualities)...if no...scoooooped!!!!

    cheers

    paul

Black, it has a speaker, and some control knobby things, oh and a handle. there's a pint of semi skimmed, a bag of ready salted crisps and two butteries in the back.

  8. I recommend this:

    Vox AD-30VT (GAK)

Thanks for the link, the Vox looks nice, and my friend had one, so I know they sound okay, however I was thinking of something cheaper than that. It's just for dragging around with me for a while. I've got a fx board, so I don't need onboard ones.

  9. Hi,

I'm on the look out for a cheap and cheerful guitar combo. I would prefer a 1x12 or 2x12 or maybe even a 2x10. Not too bothered about the looks, it could be scuffed, torn or painted for all I care, but it must be in good working condition. I would think it would need to be tranny, coz it needs to be well cheap.

I don't want to spend much, so somethnig like an old Bandit, or Stingray would do.

    cheers

    BK:devil:
