  1. Dear George,

Last week I came home from work with man flu. When I let myself in to the flat ,I noticed my Jap Strat lying on the sofa with a broken string. I thought 'strange I don't remember breaking a string last night. It was then I heard moans from from the bedroom. When I got there, I saw my girlfriend getting humped from behind by a big geezer with a ACDC t shirt on.

Where is the best place to get cheap strings, and should I go from 8's up to 9's

    yours hopefully

  2. i played some zxt's the other day and there are alright but not really the sound i like, also now that i am getting into drums i think i may be getting fussy, because i do not like the sounds of recent hi-hats i have been playing and also some bass drums are funny sounding(prob need a tune)

i think i will look into some serious gear in the new year, but if any drummers are selling any gear, giz a shout:up:

p.s-thanks for all the positive replys/feedback

I might be able to help. A friend of mine has a load of stuff he's trying to sell. he said something about throwing 1000quid worth of cymbals in with a kit he is selling. So he might do a deal.

  3. Suppose that was aimed at me.....thought it was a reasonably thing to say, in keeping with the generally helpful tone of this entire thread.

Trust a guitarist to try and turn this into a bunfight. Don't rise to it lads.

Thank you for calling me a guitarist, I've always thought of myself a basic strummer. Have a pleasent evening.

  4. Being a strummer and not a thumper, I have been following this thread in awe. A guy (the OP) asks a reasonable question, and gets loads of good advice. I thought why can't guitar players be like that.

Guitar players tend to just go straight for the throat - well maybe after 3-4 replies/quotes- and start slagging off the 'shit' gear the OP would be using or at least saying things like you need to spend a huge amount of money to get a great tone etc etc.

However, here we are on page 3 of the thread and it has begun. Well hats off the the drummers (no pun intended) for waiting that long.

  5. I am looking to put an alternative covers band together.

Music by Unsung Heroes, from early Roxy, Duran, New Order, Stranglers, Talking Heads, right up to modern classics from the likes of Roses, Kasabian, Manics.

    New Wave to New Play

Gems of the alternative scene that you never hear live which will raise the roof when played.

    Ideally a 4 piece line up, aged 30's - Drums, Keyboards, Guitars/Vox,

(possible 5 piece, singer with guitarist) I'm on bass & backing

A professional band, for the pure love of playing, no illusion of grandeur, most importantly FUN, practices a couple times a month, gigs once a month or more.

I have the makings of the 1st set & a band name, willing to take time in putting the right band members together - members who arent resigned to playing MOR or predictable covers. Confident ability, own transport, energetic, love playing, sense of humour.

Please send me a Private Message if interested, contact & auditions to follow

That's what I talking about. I'll play guitar for you if you want. Can't sing very well though, but may get away with backing vox.

BTW '77' was a cracking album. Now that 'is' an under rated album:up:

  6. Thanks for the replies.

I should have added that i'd like black or chrome pickups. Cheers!

No I don't have surrounds but..................why don't you just take off the painted covers and either clean them up, or leave the pickup bobbins uncovered. They will be black anyway.

You will need to loosing the 4 screws (keep them safe) holding on the surronds (if you still have them) and then loosing the two height adjusting screws (keep them safe) until they come out all the way. then gently lift out the pick up. you should now have a white pickup in you mitt. Slowly unscrew the 6 small screws on to of the pickup (keep them safe). this holds the cover to the pickup. Once they are all out you should be able to seperate the cover from the pickup. you should clean the 6 small screws and put them back in the hole they come out of. place the pickup back in the hole, and replace the surrounds. you then put the 2 long screws back through the holes and adjust the pick up height. remember do not over tighten any of these screws incase you break something. A tip is to have the 6 pickup screws sitting at 45deg from the strings. Of course you have to start with all the 6 screws fully, or near fully screwed into the pick up . E one way, then B the next way (90degs to the E screw) Start by having the two E strings should be the lowest screws, then working a half turn out each time for the A and B string, and then again, another half turn for the D and G strings. this will give you a pick up screw height which somewhat follows the curve radis of your guitar neck. .Cool or what?

Now bear in mind I'm saynig this from memory so it might be a little off, and I might not have explained myself well but for the screw height thing just make sure the two E strings a as close to fully in. then adjust the B and A strings to the same height as the E's. then unscrew the A & B screws by half a turn. Now set the D & G screw to the same height as the A & B screws, then unscrew them half a turn. the D&G screws shoud be one full turn up from both the E screws, and half a turn up from the B&A screws. Like steps up and down.
