  1. If you want to get just one good preamp, go for the Focusrite ISA220, it sounds amazing, I thought SM57's were shit till I heard it through it...the EQ is also very good, particularly suited to vocals and accoustic guitars. It also makes a great DI for guitars and bass.

I will be happy when I have the Brauner VM1, thats the vocal mic I'm after....if you buy one of them I'd record at yours for 150 a day :D

  2. It's got nothing to do with what how or what they are playing, it's about polishing that recorded material and making sure it doesn't sound like shit in the context of other commercial recordings.

I was referring more to the posts of Milner and betamax about the guy in the studio barking orders...

The only good example I've heard of this is where Rick Rubin told The International Noise Conspiracy to stop trying to add extra little "cool" bits to their tunes in the studio as he said that wasn't how the band sounded live, and ultimately thats what he thought the band should sound like on record.

  3. I subscribe to the Steve Albini ethos...."telling a band they are playing all wrong and should be playing a different way is like telling a guy he's fucking his wife all wrong and should be fucking her another way"

Don't fuck with what feels good!

  4. the problem with 'anti-emo' humour is that it's so old...'funny posts' like this have honestly been regularly posted on aberdeen-music for at least 5 years. Remember Emo Juice? That big joke was at its prime when I was in 5th year at School.

Emo Steve was the best joke of all!

  5. The portability of these devices is very appealing....besides, I've yet to play a gig this millenium (different story before 2000!!!) where I can crank a valve amp to anything even remotely worth hearing. Powersoaks are shit, I like the real volume a valve amp gives, and I find it hard to sing when my ears aren't being destroyed my the marshall stack behind me as I get self concious and I'm not really able to lose myself in the music, and if Im not feeling it then theres no way anyone out front is. You dig what I'm saying yo....

So yeah...some pods, guitars and a pedal and snare....you can tour in a fiesta!

  6. Saw this film last night...quite good and hard hitting but the whole little kid thing pisses me off...a bit patronising, whereas Bubs was a believable little tag along shit in Romper, this kid looks way too young and acts too old..I don't need to see an 8 year old snogging a woman either or being offered to suck her tits....just my own gripes, obviously done for shock value...ironically the real shock was the real footage of the falklands, no acting necessary. The ending was a bit of a lift from Quadrophenia aswell...stellar acting all around though

On a side note, they got the skingirl look fucking spot on...vicky mcclure (in the middle) looks like my kind of woman in this pic...

    sigh...

  7. erm, their best album for me is process of belief, EVERY song, apart from broken is amazing.

the gray race also has my favourite bad religion song, come join us.

i've seen them three times, and they were amazing all times. even though they're a bit of a big venue rock band, which i kinda don't like, i'll always love bad religion.

Heh I thought "come join us" was one of the more duff songs on the album...."Them and us" "A walk" and indeed "The Gray Race" are way up there

  8. .

If you turn on the radio today you'll hear 20 tracks in a row describing someone's every-day life, or songs with a one-line catchphrase chorus about shaking your ass in the club - the production is usually great but when you look deeper, there's nothing behind it...it doesn't offer you anything past its face value. We want to hear something different and exciting, but the material we want to hear isn't getting made. Thats why we spend nearly every waking moment trying to create music that takes you out of this universe - for ourselves and anyone else who wants to listen."

That's cool as fuck...I like these what these guys do and their philosophy is sound...

  9. Kit kats are suitable according to the Nestle site, will have to check that out.

    However.....

"Nestl own nearly 50% of the cosmetics company L'Oreal. L'Oreal was subject to boycott calls from animal rights groups including PeTA because of its animal testing policy. Since then L'Oreal has claimed that it no longer tests finished products on animals. This statement is obviously intended to mislead since finished products do not require further testing and it implies that the ingredients are certainly still subject to tests. Some groups called off the boycott in response to L'Oreals' claims, however there are individuals and organisations who continue the boycott and L'Oreal continues to test on animals."

    Can't win can you
