  1. Not sure Sam. I think they just like to do it their way because they are American! they'll be calling it the "Soccer World Series" next!

I suppose football would benefit from having that sort of regulation on contracts so that there wasn't so many ridiculous transfer fees and salaries and the ever growing divide between rich and poor clubs. In the MLS there seems to be a lot more emphasis on "trades" and they also have a cap on the amount of overseas players allowed at one club. The sponsorship over there is pretty ridiculous though and as a result the teams don't seem to have any identity and clearly no history (as the teams change names and cities every second season!)

I learnt all this from a brief obsession with www.metrofanatic.com following Peter Canero's transfer from Dundee Utd to NYNJ MetroStars (who are now Called New York Red Bull!). He's not very popular out there.

  2. I'm all for the casuals. The more intimidated the away fans feel' date=' the less chance there is of them coming back to Pittodrie. The less away fans there are cheering their team on, the less chance there is of that team beating the Dons. Anyway, we've got some of the most notorious casuals in Scotland, and perhaps just through blind loyalty to the club, I'm proud that we're the best at something![/quote']

Less away fans = less atmosphere & less money for the club. The louder the away fans - the louder the home fans - the more fired up the players will get.

As for casualsI cant say Im proud that we have the best morons attaching themselves to our club. Their blind loyalty (yes, they really do us a lot of favours) to the club (or is it to fighting?!) are overshadowed by their outstanding stupidity and sickening racism.for me, personally. They are not only a disgrace to AFC but to the human race.

I can only hope your comment was tongue in cheek.

Del, maybe Januarys transfer window will be a busy time for the Us!

  3. After Time Trumpet I switched over to the ITV News. Forgetting I had switched over, I was sitting there expecting something satirical when all of a sudden the newsreader announced "Tony blair believes that potential criminals can be identified..........before birth"

This was a genuine news story! Crazier than Geldof ending death!

  4. I catch half an epsisode some lunch times its on 4, like Family Guy it takes a couple of episodes to really appreciate the style of humour. Similar to Trailer Park Boys in that respect. Anyone watch that?

Family Guy is still beter though

Sorry if I've sullied your thread. ;-)

  5. Time Trumpet is very hit and miss and below the standard of Ianucci's previous work.

I agree there's a few tumbleweed moments in each episode. Nothing worse than dragging out a bad joke but I'm usually still laughing at there being "No News".

What would you recommend by Iannucci? That new DVD? Has he written any good books?

  6. fans have at times ridiculous expectations at all levels

Particularly down Pittodrie way unfortunately which is a seperate debate altogether.

Maybe they only play in 8 games a season because that's the only time 50% of the fans bother turning up and getting behind them' date=' it's remarkable how much busier the home end gets when one half of the forces of darkness are in town...[/quote']

But then the quality of football is always better so if you are to pick and choose a few games a season, they'd most likely be the best value for money. I suppose it works both ways though as the players get fired up and play better with a bigger crowd and the bigger build up to a game when the OF are in town. Another point to note is that games against the OF suit Aberdeen more as they seem better at hitting on a counter attack than trying to break down a stubborn Caley/Pars/Falkirk/Motherwell defence even if they have the ball the whole game. Quite why we've not tried to sign an inventive attacking midfielder that has a bit of vision is beyond me as Nicolson has been anon (can't remember how to spell whole word, sorry). At least Stevie Crawford's started scoring goals................oh? He's been sold..............

  7. Shaki' date=' you could try watching the box sets of series 1-5 before Sunday if you've got a spare 65 hours and then watch the catch-up of the new one, but you should be OK just to jump straight in at series 6.[/quote']

Seeing as this is the last series that gives me the rest of my life to catch up........provided I live more than 65 hours. Here's hoping.

Extras is another one I've not got round to watching more than a couple of episodes, looks pretty funny though.

Good TV?! The beginning of a revolution or a flash in the pan?!

  8. I've never watched Sopranos yet but I reckon it looks right up my street. Would I need to borrow the box sets from series 1 to now to get into it? How many series are they on now?

Rape a celebrity Ape, Ross Kemp on Fire and "No News" have made me laugh until I cry. The deadpan-ness of Ianucci's comedy is just brilliant - was he behind the Day today at all? The guy who is meant to be Jamie Oliver, haha, brilliant!

  9. You fairweather supporters aren't real fans. you've got to support your team week in week out through the good times and the bad' date=' not stop going because they're playing shit.[/quote']

Damn me for wanting to be entertained for my 21! I know what youre saying though - as I said, clubs rely on their die-hards to sustain them so good on ya!

Theres a level of fan in-between fair-weather and die-hard and recently Ive slipped into that category. I still consider myself a real fan but I just couldnt face going last Saturday. I had a bad case of Pittodrie-Induced Depression after the Caley game which didnt really clear up till about Tuesday. It really wore me down so for the good of my mental health I stayed at home. I think however that staying up until 12.30 when you are knackered on a Monday night just to see the 2 minutes of highlights on ScotSport SPL is punishment enough for not attending the game.

  10. Redemption TV! I watch far too much of that. When you don't pay your SKY subscription, it's that or "Chart Hits" and I marginally prefer unsigned metal bands recorded terribly than I do Liberty X or the likes! Will you get interviewed backstage by that skag whore looking lassie with her insightful questions such as "what sort of music do you like?" and "How would you describe your sound?".

Good luck though and I look forward to seeing you and Drummonds on the TV!
