at the very least, though, bush is some sort of catalyst......
-
meh. i'm just being annoying because i'm pretty bored and can't go out cause i'm broke.. i am american, but i am also italian and australian. i'm not exactly a huge fan of many things US-related, which explains why i live, work, and study here...
still, not all americans are loud and arrogant (i'm not saying i'm not..... i don't know if i am)... but i think we deserve a bit more credit. even though bush is still there...
-
DAMN!!
Yeah' date=' well that was a type-o, not an intentional misspelling.[/quote']
fair enough. but 'tire' isn't an intentional misspelling. neither is 'color'. in fact, they're both right....
-
come on, it's a discussion...
by saying it is 'utter pish' that the UK is guilty of all the things you listed under your 'serious reasons' for disliking the US it was implied that the UK was blameless for everything. yes, you were being asked for your opinion on americans, but you haven't exactly limited yourself to that when you responded to GraemeC.
Also... if you've only met 20-30 Americans, isn't it a bit harsh to say you despise the majority of a country? What else do you have to go on?
-
I like the USA as a country. Most of it's people I despise.
so that's right. is it?
-
let's see, no, Echelon, you're completely right. the uk is so completely and utterly guiltless of all things narrow-minded and horrible.... like the right to detain people based solely on suspicion???
-
mmmmmm, shark burger.

refreshing to read...

'emo people' is a different thing, i think. it's like making fun of religious people in a sense that it's something they can choose to be... but i don't really understand what it is to be "emo" beyond having pointlessly long, sweepy hair and stretching your ears... someone please enlighten me on this one..
-
The words of a true bigot.....whats wrong with the French and ........ "emo people"???!!!!o_O
the french have this whole nonchalance thing going on where they don't get embarrassed about things.. it can come across as rude, but i don't think there's anything wrong with being straightforward..
-
also.... if i had more time before cremating my food i would have pointed out that we don't spell things incorrectly, just differently.. there are a load of different dialects of many languages... who can say which one is 'right'?
-
If you're going to be picky' date=' it's best to be right. You got them the wrong way round.
point taken. my bad, i was rushing, my dinner was burning... it is fixed now. but in my defense, the other dude was wrong first...
-
Silly things I hate about the USA are:
Its misspelling of words. dropping the letter U and substituting Z for the letter S
QUOTE]
its = possesive
it's = it is
i wasn't going to be picky the first time....
-
I like the USA as a country. Most of it's people I despise.
so what do you like about it as a country?
and what do you despise about its people?

I reckon Harold will go back to how he was about a year ago; one nasty bastard.
I hope the coffee shop gets shut down.
i don't think my dinner would stay down if there was more harold copping a perve.....

You're from America eh? Do you know Todd Hansgen?
should i?

One thing tho if i can ask. If bush cheated to get elected the 1st time and americans knew this why did they re-vote him in for a second term....
it's all down to they way voting is tallied up... basically, each state has a number of points depending on it's population. i'm from texas, so my vote counts in texas only. seeing as texas in hugely republican (and bush's home away from dc) my vote, along with anyone else's in texas voting against bush, is wasted. completely and utterly wasted. useless... it all depends on where you live... there were reports during the last election that poorer people were being turned away from the polling booths because they didn't have the proper i.d. on them...

I don't understand threads like these' date=' how do you pigeon-hole an entire country? ^_^[/color']
that's kind of what i'm trying to understand.. (seeing as i am american and have suffered much abuse for being so from complete strangers) maybe i'm aiming this at the wrong kind of people... maybe i should venture into the depths of despair i know as town, saturday night, 3am, and ask people as they're leaving drum, or whatever the new amadeus is these days...

That's exactly what I'm doing. So many people want to grow-up too soon: going to pubs and clubs at 15' date=' learning to drive as soon as they're 17, deciding what they're gonna "be" before they've left school...All being well, I've over 50 years to be an adult, so forgive me if I cling to pre-adulthood a little bit longer.
But, you say your parents booted you out, so I guess you had no option, and you've done well for yourself. I'd like to think ,in such a situation, I'd have taken to busking on the cobbled streets of Old Europe, but...I'm just a dreamer. Which makes the point as to who is more radical a moot one, as it's a state of mind. The alternative to bourgeois life is bohemian life, but since we don't have a Latin Quarter and crumbling mansions waiting to be squatted in, this is impossible. So my approach is summed up thus:
"He said "you want to turn it on its head by staying in bed", I said "I know I do"[/quote']
not really sounding very 'bohemian'... more lazy, seeing as the main reason you give for going to uni is to put off working for 4 years instead of learning about something you're interested in...
and who's to say you have over 50 years to be an adult?
-
well, considering the reactions i get from drunks in town (and they say being drunk gets rid of inhibitions and allows you to speak the truth, blah, blah, blah) i was under the impression we aren't very well received. i think a large part of that has to do with bush though.
-
just curious about how American's are viewed here, what with all the complaining about things... are their accents cute or do they make your ears want to bleed? is the brash loudness endearing or annoying?? knock yourselves out.

i thought the pictures of david and lil were pretty good' date=' but the one of serena was AWFUL.[/quote']
i don't know, it wasn't too bad. she just had a neck the thickness of an elephant's leg... and when did toadfish become so unbelievably homosexual?? when cindi was in it weren't his plot lines a bit more serious??
-
i say good. i don't like paul. he looks like the janitor from scrubs and cheapens my whole neighbors experience. and screw it, whilst harold's in a killin' mood, he shuold take out izzy, for screwing up karl and susan in the first place.
(i am also extremely curious about skye's REAL drawing abilities. it's probably stick men)
