  1. Friday - Not much, couple of beers in the house whilst fixing our bassist/frontman's laptop.

Saturday - Quiet daytime, then playing in Portsoy at night. Last gig there was good, lots of Halloweeny cunts, hopefully this one will be full of Christmasy cunts :)

Sunday - Sweet fuck awwww or might go for a run if it's not too windy then try to talk The Kid into going to see the The Hobbit. A sack of popcorn and the promise of post-movie pizza should swing it.

  2. Get a new job - I'm dying a slow death here

Get a new flat - I'm dying a slow death there

Keep up my fitness routine - I'm staving off death there ... or accelerating it, who knows?

Get some advanced guitar lessons - My technique is getting sloppy and all my solos sound the same

Take up a new sport/hobby - fuck knows what though. Maybe weights, then folks at gigs will say "Check oot the guns on the guitarist!" , "Aye but all his solos sound the same"

  3. Hi, that's quite a few pedals in the signal chain. I'd by using the bog standard logical approach - i.e. adding (or removing) pedals one-by-one until you find the "noisy" one.

I'm not the most experienced guitarist on here by a long chalk, but I'd bet good odds I've had more kit than most, so here's some tips...

    1. Get a good power supply. The PSU can be a major source of noise and if a pedal is struggling to get it's share of the leccy, that only adds to the pain. I have a T.Rex Chameleon and it's the dugs baws.

    2. Buy good (top) quality guitar and patch leads, they really DO make a difference. I'd happily demo my Sommer guitar lead against an off-the-shelf one, the improvement is quite dramatic.

    3. Ensure your signal chain is in the right order - there's actually NO "industry standard" right order, but pedals react differently in various positions. Play around with the order, see what works both for noise and tone.

    4. Everything doesn't need to be dialed up to the max, maaaaaan. Better to have slightly less distortion/effect and no noise.

    5. Noise Gates = Tone Suckers. Using an NS2 IMHO is like treating dandruff by decapitation, like Sellotape on a live wire. Locate and fix the problem, rather than mask it, where at all possible

    6. Some pedals are just fucking noisy. The worst offenders I've had are Tubescreamer (as Keeno pointed out), Fulltone OCD, Big Muff, Line 6 Tonecore (if you DON'T have the right PSU) and any number of Chinese clones.

    Hop this helps.

  4. My uncle had a 3ltr capri in turd brown, great car, despite the colour :) I vaguely remember those Fiats, but knowing Fiat back then, most had rusted away!

The first serious car I owned was a Mini 1275GT, and 24 years later, I have gone full circle, current car is a Mini Cooper, not as hot as previous motors, but great fun and less chance of me being done for having a heavy right foot! (previous Cars included Civic type R, Mazda MPS, Fiat Abarth 500).

I'm guessing you got your license a bit before me (1985) :)

    1983 for me :)

  5. I always fancied a Mustang or Firebird, the sound of a rumbling v8 is music to my ears :)

The capri is a classic, anyone remember the professionals?

I owned one of these back in the day...

"Back in the day" , owned the Vauxhall equivalent of the Opel Manta - a Cavalier Coupe' in red, with black roof. Awesome car :)

I also had a 3-litre Mk II Capri.

Capri's were great looking cars, but the lower-end ones (1.6 & 2.0) had too much body roll.

The weapon of choice for the young spunkers when I was in my teens was the Fiat 124 Special T. A fearsome brute of a thing that had quite incredible acceleration for the era.

Better still, it shared the same body shell as the Lada, which provided endless fun at traffic lights.

I must point out that the 124 Special T was an old car when I was in my teens :)

  6. Anne Hathaway was much hoter than Halle Berry as Catwoman!

Each to their own - Hathaway was far better in the role from a performance standpoint, but I just can't get Ms Berry's jiggling lady-bumps out of ma heid, shite as her movie was.

"Hoter" - does that mean the love Anne was more "Ho-ish" or "Ho-like" ? ;)

  7. The Dark Knight Rises

After being rather disappointed by the grossly over-rated The Dark Knight and all irritated by the arselickerly ad nausea around the late Heath Ledger's (admittedly) strong Joker performance, I was dubious about viewing this latest Nolan effort.

I was, however, thoroughly delighted and entertained by this latest installment in the Batman series. Tom Hardy as Bane was an inspired piece of casting, Gary Oldman (innit?) and Morgan Freeman never fail to deliver, Anne Hathaway looks "fetching" in the Catwoman suit (not as fetching as Halle though, rrrrrrrrrrrrrr) and the whole thing is anchored by Michael Caine's sensitive portrayal of Alfred. Even Bale is excellent in this one (he's a bit Nic Cage - when he's good, he's good....).

Best movie I've seen in ages. 9.5/10
