Because the retail value includes VAT.. does not matter whether the shop gets to keep the VAT or not... quite frankly I think your offer price is an insult... the reason why it should not be discounted from a private sale is the orginal buyer had to pay the VAT.
so do you think second hand stuff should be the same price as new stuff ? how would you value a second hand guitar ?
-
For the simple reason you talk shit on people's posts and end up spoiling their sale
I've offered to buy the guitar , how does that spoil his sale you arse ?
......... you are the one posting stuff that has nothing to do with the sale , if you want to call me names either do it by pm or meet me in the pub like a grown up
-
You are a bit of a prick ain't ya kybosh
why does making a reasonable offer for a second hand guitar make me a prick ?
why does explaining my valuation of the guitar make me a prick ?
why am I even bothering to answer you ?
.............no doubt an admin will delete it all soon anyway , not my offer though I hope as it is genuine and up to the op to accept , decline or otherwise , not you
-
Your bit about VAT is nonsense TBH ... we all have to pay VAT on new so thats what its worth new... regardless of what you think its worth used.. the RRP includes the VAT.
The New price in a shop includes VAT (the shop does not get to keep this)
The second hand price in a shop includes VAT (the shop does not get to keep this either)
There is no VAT on second hand private sales (so why should it not be discounted from the value of an item ?)

I hope that was a joke offer. Even if they are £599 they are worth more than £250 all day long, lol.
Ronz
nope , no joking , of the £599 you pay a shop for a new one of these £120 of that is VAT , you don't pay VAT on a s/h private sale
...if on the other hand the op was to trade this guitar in at a shop they could not sell it for the same price as a new one no matter how good condition it is in, say they marked it down 25% from the new price @ £450 , they still have to pay VAT on this , that would be £90 so the guitar is now down at £360 , lets give the shop a 25% (probably a bit low) profit on the sale £90 , that makes the trade in price for this guitar £270 , that is the most I would be prepared to pay for it , my opening offer of £250 is not much less , it's up to the seller to either accept the offer , try to raise me a bit or ignore the offer ............no joke
-
....and stop calling it a guitar , it's a bass
-
Thomann do these new for £599 so my offer for a two previous owner guitar is £250 , pm me if you are interested

I may actually throw caution to the wind and take a punt on this on Sunday...
I would say stay away from this , it looks like a home made hotch potch of bits made to look a little bit like a '70's telecaster bass , the headstock is the wrong shape for a tele , it has a precision logo but is not a precision headstock either (could be a precision neck that's been home chopped into nearly a tele shape)
The 3 bolt neck plate is correct for a post '72 tele but if the neck was a post '72 tele there would be a bullet truss rod at the headstock (like on a 3 bolt jazz neck) the body and scratch plate "could" be real , ask for more photo's of under the scratch plate and the wiring.
Also ask for phot's of the neck off , If it is a P bass (or cheap copy) neck you'll be able to see where the 4 screws used to be before it was fitted to this 3 bolt body
.........then walk away

Here's the list of the 80's nominees. Some pretty good choices and some of the usual suspects.

can I just say that I shared a dressing room and a large bowl of smarties with Claire Grogan (and the rest of altered images) when my band supported them when they played in Aberdeen in the early eighties
.........I wonder if Happy Birthday will be one of next weeks tracks ??

in case anyone was interested the martin was sold at the weekend , I swapped it for a Gibson songwriter 12 string
-
RC 20 is the 2 pedal looper
-
neither do I but something like a really cheap p bass copy with an amp won't be far off £200 , here is a fairly good quality bass that does not need an amp , perfect for learning on
-
how about a fender GB 41 - SCE acoustic / electric bass , like new c/w gig bag £250 , it's a long scale neck and plays very well ,
maybe not as cheap as you had in mind but he won't need an amp to start with and can practice at home without upsetting M&D ?

full spec here , come and see / try it anytime , I'll pm you my number

The factory electrics on this model consists of a piezo under the bone part of the bridge and a pencil type pre-amp and socket powered by a 9v battery (it's a fishman gold) , there is no volume control or EQ on the guitar just a balanced output , plug into an outboard pre-amp or straight into the desk , if it sounds good enough for Eric I don't think anyone else will be dissapointed
For sale: Gibson les Paul studio worn brown.

that's my whole point you moron , private sales have no VAT so they should be at least 20% less than a shop would sell an item for
it's not up to you to decide if it's a silly offer , it's not your guitar , butt out
