  1. WOW what a freaky coincidence... someone also stole my password and used my account to type those nasty posts about you. Weird huh? Do ya thunk it could be da same guy?

    Dun dun DUUUUUNNNNNN!

no i really didnt post those...but whatever.

believe me, i have no problem sticking by what i say.

  2. agreed to an extent. but then i also think that you are caught up in chasing fame (not meant as an insult) and are struggling to see it from other bands perspectives. many bands round here are not interested in being on MTV' date=' having a gazillion friends on myspace, and whatever else happens when you are on the ladder to recognition etc

many are more happy to ply their trade and have a bucketload of fun. if an indie wants to put their record out then bonus (see copy ha ho forthcoming release on pet piranaha records, hookers green on snowstorm, small enclosed area on hackpen, the fat hippy bands etc etc)

most bands in aberdeen have been out playing in other cities, i could name a fair list of bands who have, just because they dont send 4/5 messages on myspace/splatter it over here about it does not mean they have not been away etc

just because they are not playing a p2p showcase at the catty** and taking a busload of people down with them, does not mean they are caught up in our local scene.

some people just dont take their bands as their life

this in no way a dig at you or mmw, just merely providing a perspective from others point of view. im sure you know better than most how things work at local level

** - something that i strongly oppose and presume that most of the local bands i was talkign about would oppose too. if it getys you where you want to go then good luck to you, but p2p is the enemy in my eyes[/quote']

    Absolutely.

Your post generally is excellent. I do feel however that you have misunderstood what my points were. I wasnt having a dig at bands that have no ambition to be all what you said and seem to think MMW want to be. My point was merely on a musical level about styles of bands and how good they are. The ones that pull the most tend to be, in my eyes the ones that are working hardest. This usually means they practice the most and belive in themselves more therefore are often the best bands. These are usually the bands that use whatever means of promotion they can as well.

Of course its about fun. I agree 100%. The minute I stop having fun I get out of what Im doing as its not right.

You made a point about bands being peoples lives. Thats just it. Im in no way ramming my opinion down anyones throat anymore than another user on here. Music and my band IS my life so we will pust things and take things as far as we can.

You know me and you know my attitude towards everything at a local level and im the guy that makes three trips for a friends band in my car to get gear, im the guy that will not care about being cool and telling everyone how awesome my friends band is and to stay around even if there is ten people. You know this. You also know im EXTREMELY passionate about music and a VERY ambitious person. Just because i come from the school of wanting the whole world to hear our music doesnt mean that i would comprimise any integrity to get that. I do feel that you were heading down the usual road of being suspicious of why MMW are a band.

  3. is ''artsy'' a new word?

a lazy way for people in rock to describe everything else thats new sounding and therefor un-rock?

rock is truly dead but Im sure we shouldnt just bracket a whole range of new styles together as ''arsty'' just because the songs are not about bumming Satan or drinking whisky on a highway in Alabama (with the Devil no doubt)......theres a lot more to it than that

oh not you. you're REALLY REALLY boring.

  4. i don't think "artsy student variety" is a fair description of any of the bands listed. if you must lump them into a genre then perhaps just guitar pop or indie would do the job. saying "artsy student variety" just makes it sound like you don't get it. though those bands listed by chris are so different it would be unfair to list them together in some cases.

Nah, sorry Dave. Chris has a point. Wether its fair or not I do see his point and if you really really let go of your admirable, take everything for what it is, no pre-conceptions stance for a second you would see why he has referred to those bands like he did. Im not having a go, I promise, BUT im in agreement with him. I guess its a sad state of affairs that I would see that Sharon is suggesting all those bands and probably think i already know what I'm getting and IN MY OPINION i'd probably be 90% correct. code of the road nowadays huh?

Thing is, lets be honest with ourselves (most people still wont be but hey!) If someone did come to Aberdeen and said i like rock/alternative music you wouldnt suggest alot of the bands here would you?

There are obvious better bands at certain things in Aberdeen and it will always be this way im afraid. They are usually the bands that work hardest and whos name is about. This is also usually down to them being the best at what they do as well. lets stop lying to ourselves.

Also, we should always keep in mind. Its only Aberdeen. there is some awesome quality here but you go to work twice as hard to get noticed AND too many bands are caught up in the scene here and not looking at Scotland and the UK as a whole.

  5. Yes however' date=' reverse the "sides" around and you get a better "live model" for the situation.

However, that is quite in the past now - which is why we are speaking about this gig.

    next.[/quote']

hmmm. sorry! now i disagree. without entering into a "they started it argument" it has to be noted that gregor's attitude is terrible. he does nothing but damage peoples initial perception of you and comes off as a total amateur and someone who's mouth should be kept shut. i have no idea what ascensions ambitions are, wether it be to take it as far as possible or JUST to play music. either way his attitude stinks and his posts are cringeworthy 95% of the time im afraid. believe me, im long enough in the tooth to know what im talking about and have seen more of the industry than most on these boards. i'd tell him to let his guitar playing (which i hear is awesome) do the talking instead.

  6. We can persuade him I'm sure' date=' and by that I mean a swift kick to the crotch. He has to just cool down on the drumming for a while, I don't know what his plans are yet for this. If he had to stop drumming completely I think we would keep him on as Keyboards and maybe temporarily use a drum machine (he has an Alesis SR-16) until we find a new drummer.

I'm not sure yet, but I will say an official yes to this gig from Ascension. We aren't a horrible bunch of ogres and elves, nae easy chaps who just happen to enjoy the works of J.R.R. Tolkein lol...

I'm sure once people stop cracking jokes about dragons, and actually listening to the songs (especially the lyrics) they will maybe realise that we do have something to offer musically.

And vice versa for ourselves. If we can keep the gig all in good fun and keep the shitty snide remarks out then I am all for it and think it would be great fun.

However, this does mean enough of the shitty snide comments, Milner & Scorge i'm looking at you.[/quote']

    thats a wicked post.

i guess when one side says "emo metal, all hair cuts and "she dumped me lyrics" its natural for the other to go retaliate using the stereotypes that power metal is related to you know?

    it's natural.

  7. Shouldn't you be up for "Best Harbour Pirate bar with a hole cut out in the wall being fobbed off as a stage that houses clueless twats in bandannas that constantly annoy the shit out of bands by climbing on the stage and fucking around with settings that he couldn't know less about" award?
