  1. " Lo - Fi Rules" - Room Thirteen Review

A short review from Emma Gould of RoomThirteen...

    Lo-fi rules.

    Sat Aug 11 13:41:26 2007

Scottish trio Cast of the Capital are more indie than indie. The sound on this excellent three track demo is seriously lo-fi; gentle drums, strummed guitar and sweet little keyboard riffs. This is definitely the kind of band you can imagine teaming up with Scottish indie collective The Raindeer Section; they have the right kind of sound and the ability to turn out a decent tune.

The tunes may be simple but they are very effective; memorable and so sweet and poppy you want to ruffle their hair; 'Meeting Minds In Mountains' has a lovely warm feel, the relaxing and gentle melody sweeps over you like a fragrant summer breeze and 'You Used To Wear My Shirts' is brilliant, with a light keyboard melody and excellent lyrics, sad and touching and really down to earth.

  2. Hey

I have noticed that there is a sale on sound control and that they are selling the new Ashdown Superfly 500W bass amp for 199 (200 less than usual).

Ashdown Superfly Head at Sound Control

I have used this amp whilst recording at the studio and it sounds really good + the usb interface means you can really tweak the graphic settings which is pretty cool. The physical design is amazing - it looks really nice and is lighter than alot of the amps i have used in the past!

However, I have noticed that although the amp is advertised at 500W, it is actally 2x250W with each at 4 Ohms. Does his mean that in order to get utilise the full 500W of power I would need 2x4Ohm cabinets?

Forgive me as I have absolutely no idea when it comes to Ohms. Basically I just want to know which cabinet/conifguration of cabinets i will need in order to use the amp to its full potential.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

    Thanks

    Steve

  3. The technics slipmats really are good though. If you have a poor set of slipmats it will be harder for you to move the record back and forth, which is not a good thing especially if you are planning on doing alot of scratching or beat juggling. When using the technics slipmats i found that i barely slowed the turntables down at all whilst scratching!

  4. Hey Tom.

The Numark Turntables that I am selling are direct drive. They are very similar technical spec to the ones in the Battle Pack, they just have an older design. I found them pretty good for scractching, esp with the technics slipmats. As for the vestax mixer, its amazing, and a huge step up from the mixer included in that Numark Battle Pack. Everything is in excellent condition, no scratches, no dents etc.

If you want to come round and give it a shot youd be more than welcome!

    Cheers

    Steve
