  1. Hmm? I think I may know this friend of yours, and he does have good taste. Oh yes and Errors are very good live.
  2. Once again the guys from Radio Skool return for another dose of audiotainment. Yep Dee J A'La Fu and QuidProQuo will take you on a musical journey, with their skills based in hip hop but with records collections that would fear you, you never know what they'll pull out the bag. Anyone who has been before will know the script and those who don't should come down and check it out. Having previously hosted Lady Sovereign, Roots Manuva, Andy Votel, Lotek Hifi, New Flesh, Sugarhill Gang, and many more as well as A'La Fu having played everywhere from Glastonbury and Trans Musical to sets in Israel, Moscow, Croatia, Australia USA etc etc and has dropped numerous fine Radio Skool mix CDs and even a mix for Ninja Tune's Solid Steel the quality shows. There is also a live visual onslaught courtesy of the excellent Particleworkshop. It's all lively from 10pm - 3am and it's only a 5 to get in. Snafu // 1 Union Street // Aberdeen // http://www.clubsnafu.com
  3. Either way it will be an interesting affair I rekon.
  4. Well I guess you can hold out until they return to Aberdeen to do a full live set, whenever that would be. Acts like Chicks On Speed are not offered all that often on your own doorstep and when they are whether it be a full live set or them djing/semi-live you can't really knock it back. They will apparently have a VJing element and they've requested some lighting to show off their "get ups". Or so I am told. You never know what these ladies will pull out the (hand)bag!
  5. It will be a DJ set. I presume they will also have some visuals on display, if not I'm sure we can provide some nice graphics.
  6. Indeed, should be good. I think I will be a bit more sober than Tuesday though!
  7. Here is a link to some of MSTRKRFT's music including a live set. http://hype.non-standard.net/artist/MSTRKRFT See you there.
  8. The Dirty Hearts Club tonight features two bands as well as the DHC djs. All The Girls from Perth described as a cross between My Chemical Romance and The Killers through the powerpop songs they play. Check them out here :: http://www.myspace.com/allthegirls Secondly, from Glasgow, are The Rainbow Family. Inspired by everyone from The Carpenters and Brian Wilson to Silver Apples and Aphex Twin they combine organic and electronic equipment and have even produced work with Ron St Germain whose credits include Jimi Hendrix and Aretha Franklin. Even though they are young men they have played all over in numerous guises but The Rainbow Family remain their melodic hybrid. The track "I Can See A Rainbow" was Rob Da Bank's tune of the month on The Blue Room on Radio1. Have a blast of them here :: http://www.myspace.com/rainbowfamilymusic All lively from around 10.30pm until 2am. Plus it's only a few quid to get in so thats nae too bad either (unless you enter the quiz from 8pm then you can hang back for free!). I am assured there are some deals on at the bar too. Enjoy. http://www.myspace.com/dirtyheartsclubsnafu
  9. Radio Skool present direct from San Diego comes MC extrordinaire Scribe Sayar fka Rune Orfeus. As the man behind SDHiphop.com and having released numerous critically acclaimed 12"s and LPs including his "Urban Music Life" LP (Award listed by US Music Academy) and his releases as part of Observatory Swivel, which included one Dee J A'La Fu, Scribe has been producing hip hop music (both beats and lyrically) for over 16 years. Having toured all across the world and rocked shows on every continent this will be an exclusive chance to catch a true talent who is not over or underground, he is everyground. This is not just for hip hoppers, this is for music fans! On the night he will be joined by Radio Skool's (and Aberdeen's own) Dee J A'La Fu and QuidProQuo. Friday 27th May from 10pm - 3am and only 3 before 11pm and 4 after you can't complain. Click the flyer to find out more. For info/guestlist email - info@radioskool.com
  10. RFR Promotions and Snafu present from Toronto, electro-punks MSTRKRFT! The duo who not only boast one half of the very fine Death From Above 1979 but have also been responsible for some amazing remixes of people such as Annie, The Kills, Buck 65, Nine Inch Nails and the incredible "2 More Years" remix by indie darlings Bloc Party. They have also just produced dancefloor gold in the form of "Easy Love", a vocoder based track the likes of which Daft Punk wish they'd written which has label mates Metric's "Monster Hospital" reworked by the MSTRKRFT duo of ALP and JFK on the flip. With a history in punk bands and a love of electro and house and a CV boasting solo production work for everyone from Jay-Z, Armand Van Helden to Blood, Sweat and Tears frontman David Clayton-Thomas so you can tell these guys have a diverse range of skills. Be there or don't say "....aww I wish I'd seen them" when they, and new album "The Looks" is released soon and they become even bigger. Both ALP and JFK will be djing in Snafu (1 Union St) on Tuesday 30th May, yes Tuesday, I know it's a week night but these guys don't come along very often. It will be on from 9pm - 2am and only 6/5 to come in. Advance tickets will be on sale soon. More info here http://www.myspace.com/mstrkrft and here http://www.clubsnafu.com
  11. I was also dissapointed by the ammount of people who left as soon as King Creosote had finished leaving Akron Family with not a great deal of people to play to, shame as they were very very good. Yes the talking thing was an issue, happened the next night at Odetta with a guy who clearly knew a bit about her, but there was no need to talk about it while she is talking and everyone is (trying) to listen!
  12. Tomorrow night Gilles Peterson is joined by Japanese jazz funk sextet Soil & "Pimp" Sessions and Radio Skoolers in Snafu as part of the Triptych. Anyone who has heard these guys before will know the quality and for those who haven't :: http://www.soilpimp.com Check the discography section for some audio/visual treats. These guys are going to be amazing and the seasoned selector Gilles Peterson abily assisted by DJ Kuni and Radio Skools own Dee J A'La Fu and QuidProQuo so this will be very special. Friday 28th April from 10pm. Snafu 1 Union Street Aberdeen http://www.clubsnafu.com

  15. The pre-sale tickets have been going well for this so unless you hit up the Earl of Sandwich (Market St) or the very limited ammount left in the club I'd suggest getting down pretty early for this on the night. Remember this is a ten deck, three mixer, five hour set on this Saturday (25th Feb)!
  16. http://everything2.com/index.pl?node=Pete%20Doherty Alas, it is as we feared, Pete Doherty is real. What is more ridiculous, the story or the man himself and his "celebrity status"?
  17. I presume many have read this. It would be great if this were true. _____________ The Samaritans have today recruited 600 extra staff to deal with an expected surge in calls as troubled fans come to terms with today's revelations about rocker and teen icon Pete Doherty. In a surprise press conference today, the men behind Doherty's career reveled themselves - and admitted that the Libertines, Babyshambles, the tales of drug use, the armed robberies and the affair with supermodel Kate Moss have all been part of one of the largest hoaxes in British history. The men behind the scandal - Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty, who were themselves infamous popstars under the name The KLF - admitted how they plucked a young Buddy Holly impersonator Doherty from obscurity and made him a media darling. "It was a meant to be a quick stunt to show the frailties of our celbrity-obsessed culture," said Cauty, adding, "there are too many people who are famous despite their lack of talent, usefulness and basic intelligence. We wanted to do something that held a mirror up to that." Mr Drummond called Britain's pop-culture "sick" and said that although he regretted the hurt caused to Doherty's many fans, he hoped "this incident taught us all some important things". In a prepared statement, the two men - famous for many other pop pranks, including the famous burning of GBP1million on a remote Scottish island - detailed how they manipulated the British Press into making Doherty an icon. Doherty - whose real name has now been revealed to be Trevor McDermott - was making a living as a part-time Buddy Holly impersonator in the Cornwall holiday circuit. He began a short-lived affair with the singer of a well known 80's rock band, and was introduced to Drummond and Cauty at a backstage party in London's West End. The men described how a drunken McDermott amused them with his slurred singing and frenetic dance movements, and how they then realised that this would be the perfect "dupe" for a plan they had been hatching for some time. "The plan involved proving three theories we have about current British society," reads the statement. "The first is that in the so-called "alternative" scene, everybody is too scared of missing The Next Big Thing to worry about anything else." To prove this, some session musicians were provided to compose the rest of the "band", The Libertines, and rumours of exposive gigs were leaked to the media. "The gigs in question never actually took place, but we didn't have to worry about that. Soon the buzz around The Libertines was so frenetic, journalists were falling over themselves to claim to have been at the front of every single fictional gig." Within weeks, The Libertines were appearing on magazines and receiving record offers. Gigs sold out in minutes, while their first album "Up The Bracket" flew off shelves. Feeling that their first point had been proved, Drummond and Cauty moved to their second theory: "We feel that our culture has become an enormous soap opera. We don't care what a person thinks, or creates, or contributes. We just care about what they do in their normal lives. Especially when it's something they shouldn't be doing." To demonstrate this, the men co-ordinated a number of scandals. First was a robbery staged in the house of one of the band members. When this took place, McDermott (aka Doherty) was unknown outside of the alternative music scene. An incident of this calibre was sufficient, however, to catapult McDermott onto the front page of every major national tabloid. "One day we has just another singer, the next day he was 'Disgraced Celebrity Rocker', and he hasn't been out of the papers since". Further revelations about drug abuse and violence kept McDermott and The Libertines on the front pages for months. One thing that took even Drummond and Cauty by surprise was the affair with model Kate Moss. "That was not something that we planned or had any involvement. Whether she knew about the hoax is something we are not party to. We have never had any contact with Miss Moss." However, this was the boost their project needed - where the drugs and crime had made McDermott a media sensation, the relationship with one of fashion's most famous women catapulted him into the world of true celebrity. "While we had not planned this, it certainly proved our point. There are many superior artists in the country today, but they never appear in Heat or The Sun, because they don't have the words 'boyfriend of Kate Moss' after their name." Despite this boost, the project began running into a major setback for Drummond and Cauty. Just as they were preparing to enter the final phase of their scheme, Doherty decided that he wanted to part company with them, the fake band, and begin seriously recording music. He stopped all contact with the men, and threatened legal actions if any details were leaked to the press. "We were upset at the apparent failure of our grand project, and also at the monster we had created in Pete Doherty. Our third theorem - that 'If enough people say that a piece of s*** is a bar of gold, we'll believe it's a bar of gold' - seemed to have been beyond salvation. Fortunately, at that point Pete released the first Babyshambles album." In the time since then, Drummond and Cauty have been locked in a vicious legal battle, which was eventually settled out of court by the discovery of a videotape showing McDermott singing "Peggy Sue" at a Butlin's in Devon. Publicly, McDermott still strongly denies all charges. How this affects the future career of Pete Doherty remains to be seen.

  22. Wow New Kingdom, a blast from the past. Unicorns Were Horses was pretty good from what I recall. I don't think they are still on the go though. Cannibal Ox was one of the best shows I've seen live. It was them an Aesop Rock and I must admit I expected a bit of a lacklustre show but it was super good. Yea PUTS are a good show but for anyone who's been around a bit will have seen them many times (even I've dj'd with them a couple times). Same as Ugly Duckling. I guess they are safe bets though, well about as safe as it gets up here, it would just be nice to see some fresh acts, as long as people show up.
