  1. I'm not a big curry man myself, but I have eaten in Cinnamon on Union Street a couple of times and thought it was absolute quality.

Could be a complete rumour - and I don't want to be done for slander - but I heard a while ago that if you go to Cinnamon with a big group of people, they'll try to add extra dishes and drinks on to the bill in the hope that you wont notice.

To be fair, I guess a lot of restaurants might try to pull this. Seems it would be a pretty easy way to make a bit of extra cash since the chances of, say, twenty people checking an itemised bill to make sure only what they ordered is listed is unlikely... especially if the beers and naans are flowing!

On a slightly cheerier note, I would definitely recommend Jewel in the Crown. I'd also say Nawaabs is a good call for restaurant dining; although I have been less impressed by their home deliveries in the past.

  2. bump....

I may be stating the obvious.. but have you got some kind of audio output from your laptop feeding into your tv? A sort of novice way would be to get a jack to jack plug and connect it from your laptop headphone socket..

I'm sure there will be a better way to do this, particularly in terms of sound quality..

Hope I haven't completely missed the point of your question?!

  3. Those people who walk the exact middle-pace between my walking pace and a walking pace that is ever so slightly too slow. I still overtake them, but it takes ages, and we're practically walking side by side for about 30 yards.

Or when you go to overtake someone and they seem to zigzag across the pavement at exactly the time you move to walk past. Whichever side you try to walk, they just get in your way.

  4. Someone I worked with a few years ago (2006ish?) lent me Zelda for the N64 (not Ocarina of Time, so I'm assuming it must have been Majora's Mask). I have no recollection of the person's name.. but do recall that they smoked Marlboro Reds. I never returned the game and would be very happy to give it back if I knew who on earth it belonged to. Are YOU this person?

I can vaguely remember what they looked like so photographic evidence will be required. I'm not going to post the game to someone just because they say yes.. that'd be irresponsible.

  5. Or failing that, try contents insurance. My laptop got wrecked a couple of years ago; so it was either buy a new one or pay the 50 excess and claim it through the insurance policy. Although, some companies specifically state that they don't cover laptops, so I guess you'd have to check their small print.

  6. I didn't catch it when it was on tv but I heard it was definitely worth a watch. I bought it on amazon a few days ago for about 7.. hopefully get a chance to watch at least the first episode next weekend.

  7. I watched the Human Centipede yesterday.

I actually felt physically sick at times.. not because the film is overly graphic but because of the way it forces you to think about some pretty horrible concepts.

Don't think I'd recommend this film as such but I'm definitely intrigued to see the sequel next year..

  8. I've reclaimed tax a few times.. but I'm a student and it's always been when I've worked over summer and not earned enough in that period to exceed the annual personal allowance.

I've gone into tax offices and, on separate occasions, I've filled in the forms myself and sent them away. I've never had any problems getting my money back.

HM Revenue & Customs: Reclaiming tax if you've overpaid through your job

If you go on to that site it should point you in the right direction and, if all else fails, phone up your nearest tax office and they should be able to arrange an appointment with you and help you get it sorted out.

  9. sushi..

    Hey..

I believe there's a sushi restaurant next to the Bauhaus hotel on Langstane Place..

I'm fairly sure there's just a small doorway actually on the street, so presumably the restaurant is up/downstairs?

Can anyone tell me the name of the place? Is it good?

    Thanks

  10. I don't live in Aberdeen any more and so I obviously haven't had the chance to go and see this place for myself. However, it's pretty shocking that folk from Aberdeen, the 'Oil Capital of Europe', feel they have to travel to Edinburgh and Glasgow to do some decent shopping, it's about time they introduced some new shops to Aberdeen and updated the place a bit - it might even pave the way for other brands to follow suit and open up stores.

And what with Aberdeen being home to some of the wealthiest people in Scotland, it would be good if they could spend some of their money there rather than pumping it into the local economies of other cities.

All I'm saying is, although I haven't seen the building yet (and believe me, I have little doubt that the place will be yet another piece of grotesque 'new-age' architecture to add to Aberdeen's skyline), if you don't like Union Square then don't go.. but I'm sure there will be many people who will feel the benefit from it. So would you all stop moaning!

  11. We've had our border collie, Fly, for eleven years now. She's getting on a bit but she's barely slowing down at all. Absolutely fantastic dog who's always pleased to see you when you walk through the door, but she's still prone to going in a massive huff if we all go out for the day and don't leave her with enough treats :p.

    Dogs are ace like.

Awesome. I love border collies. They're the best dogs .. ever.

  12. I don't understand why, in Aberdeen, it takes 48 hours for an undelivered parcel that can't fit through my letterbox, to go from my door back to the depot. Everywhere I've lived before, the card has always had 3 to 5 hours in the box. So, not only can I not go pick it up the same day or even the next day, I have to wait 2 whole days. Where the hell is it before then? Last time it happened, I tried to collect it the next day anyway but it wasn't there. Where else do they take it? When I did eventually get it, I was a bit peeved to find out that the parcel would have easily fit through my letter box anyway. Conned.

    Christ knows.

But what's worse is when you miss the delivery of a parcel on a Thursday, arrange to have it redelivered to the post office on the Saturday morning (at a charge of 50p) and, on the Friday, you happen to be getting a 2nd parcel delivered to your home address (which you have paid Amazon an additional 8 for to guarantee that it will, in fact, be delivered on the Friday).

Now, you wouldn't think that there would be a problem here.. however, Aberdeen postmen being so bloody 'helpful' just go ahead and decide that it would be easier for you to collect both parcels at the same time from the post office on the Saturday. And yet.. they don't think it's necessary to actually inform you of where your second parcel has disappeared to..

8 thrown away.. and, hilariously, they charged me another 50p for the 2nd parcel since I was now 'collecting it from the post office'.

Thanks Royal Mail.. your stupidity strikes again.

  13. Inglourious Basterds

Absolutely top notch. There is a LOT of dialog (similar to what Death Proof was like), but it only serves to build up each major scene to its unexpected twists and the climax. Definitely worth checking out.

I saw this yesterday and thought it was brilliant. I was particularly impressed by Brad Pitt's input..

The whole thing was very well done - cleverly made, excellent story and.. as violent and dark as ever from Tarantino.

I'd definitely recommend going to see it!

  14. People mispronouncing the word sandwich. I really hate it and EVERYBODY does it.

It's easy, it's just said as it's written - Sand-Witch. But everybody pronounces it Sam-Widge. There's no M and there's no G, so can people please start pronouncing it properly. K thanks.

I've never heard anyone pronounce it with an M.. but then again, I don't usually bother to listen.
