Bok Bok & Manara are a DJ tag team from South London that are gaining international attention with their unique blend of heavy bass club music. They initially bonded over raving to grime and dubstep, but decided to start DJing together after hanging out listening to 90s trance hits and mixing grime whitelabels into them. A natural progression through grimey house followed.

Since then, their free downloadable mixtapes have gained notoriety for their various flavours of bassline, ghettohouse, garage and house musics - a blend that is helping to define the new heavy bass movement .Their DJ sets light up dancefloors across the UK, Germany and New York and this year BB & M are all set to bring the action to a club near you. Hands up butts out!

  4. OPTIMOmyspazz.jpg

    Metropolis

    Optimo (Espacio)

Optimo (Espacio) is a club night in Glasgow that was started in November 1997 at The Sub Club by dj's JD Twitch and JG Wilkes. Both these djs were tired with their firmly rooted techno-based nights and decided to form a new, more satisfiying and creative club.

Both the founding djs at Optimo came to the formation of the club from backgrounds in programmed beats, and what was generally know as "techno" at the time. Twitch was a resident at the Edinburgh based night "Pure" while Wilkes was based at the Glasgow event "Knuklehead" (later My Machines). Both were disillusioned with the musical limitations which their respective residencies provided, and decided they needed a change to try something which would be both totally different, and totally unrestrictive in terms of what they could decide to play.

The best description of the club, and the nature of the night, is through the origin of the name. "Optimo" is a song (released in 1983) by Liquid Liquid. The historical and cultural origins of Liquid Liquid would provide the inspiration for the ethos of the club; a return to the spirit of early 80's New York where many nascent scenes were emerging (hip hop, punk, no-wave, disco, gay, straight, art) all separate from each other but all united in a totally open attitude to experimentation and unequivocal challenge to creative boundaries or conventions.

Guided and inspired by this ethos, Optimo quickly became an infamous Glasgow clubbing institution, with parties renowned for their outrageous disregard for genres or musical restrictions, where the rhythmic soundtrack of the night could (and often did) strike out into territories far beyond the normal boundaries of a club night.

As the club developed and its reputation grew the Optimo djs made connections with many emerging artsts Peaches, LCD Sound System, The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand - providing many of them with their first shows in the UK. The most important of these new alliances was with Paris based Label Tigersushi, who gave the club an opportunity to release their first offical mix CD How To Kill The DJ Vol. 2.

The release of this mix, and the critical acclaim that followed, would catapult the duo into the international gigging circuit and over the next few years would see them travel across the world, taking the Optimo party aesthetic to England, Ireland, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, France Spain, Holland Belgium Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia, Greece, Bratislava, Czech Republic, Serbia, USA, Canada, Brasil, South Africa, Japan and Australia.

Optimo have raised the benchmark for what is expected in terms of a nights clubbing, a maverick determination demonstrated by release such as "How To Kill The DJ Vol. 2" (Tigersushi), "Psyche-Out" (Eskimo Recordings) and most recently with their contribution to the Sub Club's "20 Years Underground" (Soma) double CD release.

However, Optimo is not just about the music, its heart is the people that come to the club in their hometown of Glasgow. And when traveling to another club no matter where that might be the ethos remains solid. As no two audiences are the same, therefore no two sets are the same, no two mixes identical, everything springs from the spirit of the crowd and the rhythm of the moment.

    We love your ears!

With Bassline House being the latest underground genre to gain commercial

recognition, with chart topping success and many tracks scheduled for commercial

releases over the next coming months, who better than Mobo and Urban Music Award

winning Dexplicit DXP RECORDINGS - (producer of Lethal Bizzles Number 11 POW

and bassline hits such as Bulla Cake to provide another smash hit track, to which

he has become renowned for, within a scene that is no doubt set to be the sound of

    2008 and beyond.

A top remixer, he was responsible for assisting critically acclaimed XL artist MIA

to the top, with his brilliant production on her single Pull up da people. This

particular Dexplicit mix reached American shores and made him recognizable to a cult

underground scene in New York, where he now DJs playing his unique blend of music as

well as his many playouts in the UK and Europe. He has also remixed top artists for

    major labels Sony and Virgin.

Dexplicit has started his Label DXP recordings, which started in 2005 and has seen a

successful string of releases on both the grime and notably the bassline genres.

Many of the releases have sold out and are always in demand to be restocked on the

    shelves at various outlets.

Over the years Dexplicit has started playing DJ sets all over the world, Sweden,

Germany and France. He has become a regular in these countries and has formed good

allegiances with the promoters and the many people who are pushing the respective

    scenes in these places.

Other remixes include Wideboys top garage hit Sambucca, Also he has produced a number

of remixes for Stush, who featured on the Groove Armadas 2007 dance hit Get Down.

Dexplicit tracks are a common feature on compilations that are released, such are the

popularity of his style and success if his tracks. His tracks are also continually played

in clubs and all forms of radio worldwide.

Due to his humbled nature Dexplicit is supremely loved by fellow producers and peers in

    the industry.

He lends much of his time working on community projects around the country, speaking at

forums and trying his best to persuade more young people to get into the music industry,

giving advice to a younger audience.

Dexplicit maintains a great reputation on the underground and many of his tracks are

always continually playlisted and feature in all of the relevant Charts. In 2007 he had

one of the highlights of his career by featuring number 1 3 in the garage charts.

With the emergence of bassline, which he is now synonymous with, he has been in talks to

produce an album, a first in this genre of what is now a popular music.

Such was the popularity and ferocity of the Forward instrumental that US rap mega star

decided that is was essential he decided to used it for a freestyle section alongside Nas

    for his sell-out UK tour.

Next track to be released will be the massive track might be with Gemma Fox, which is

set for commercial success. He also has a string of releases and collaborations that

Now playing week in week out all over the world, from Eastern Europe to

Pendulum formed in their home-town of Perth

(Western Australia) in 2002, when producers

Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen teamed up with

acclaimed local DJ Paul 'Elhornet' Harding.

While their individual formative roots ranged

from producing drum & bass, breakbeat and

hardcore, to playing in metal and punk bands,

their comparable talents proved an unstoppable

force when they managed to single-handedly

conquer the world of drum & bass in their first

    12 months together.

After selling more than 100,000 units of their

debut artist album "Hold Your Colour", remixing

for such respected artists as The Prodigy,

being play-listed and featuring regularly on

BBC Radio 1, all whilst continuing to tour the

    world over as DJs

Dubbed The White Stripes of Live Drum

and Bass Epoc Live is no ordinary act.

Getting the crowd in a hyped up frenzy

they seamlessly mix their set featuring

the full range of sounds from jump-up to

deep/dark dnb with snare cracking beats,

rip raw bass and vocals to rattle anyones

Utah Saints have been DJ-ing dance music since the birth of house music.

They were DJs first and foremost before they had world-wide success with their

production, remixes and of course Utah Saints.

Their DJ sets have their own character being made up of a collision

of many styles ranging from breaks, electro, hip hop, mash ups to drum & bass.

DJ Tim was also a DMC UK mixing championship finalist
