The Mixologists were originally formed in 1997 by DJ Go, who wanted to bring together a group of like-minded djs. Go met Beni G as a guest on Benis hip hop radio show The Boombox, but it wasn\'t until 1999 when the official battle crew was formed.

Go and Beni have taken their innovative and eclectic DJ style across the UK, Europe and worldwide. They are set to continue to entertain crowds all over the world with the option of hip hop sets, drum & bass sets or both.

Although from different musical backgrounds (Beni was part of the early rave & jungle scene whilst Go had strong hip hop roots) the two have fused and taken their innovative and eclectic DJ style worldwide to over 20 countries. In July 2003 saw their first compilation album released called Champion Sounds under DMCs label, which subsequently won an award for best compilation at the Underground Music Awards and subsequently they went on to win in Best DJ category at the 2004 UMA awards.

Kanes introduction to the rave scene began at the tender age of fourteen when he began listening to Fantasy FM in 1989. He consequently became inspired to begin mixing, and by 1992 he was playing on Don FM which later that year lead to him becoming one of the founding DJs on the world famous Kool FM, Londons longest running pirate, where he still plays today. His regular slots on Kool progressed to being booked at large events, of which he cites pre-jungle promoters Electribe to be the first in 1992. Inspired by the darker side of hardcore around this time, which was quickly becoming jungle, Kanes involvement in the scene quickly progressed from playing tunes to making them, inspired by influential producers of the era A Guy Called Gerald and Potential Bad Boy. He soon met Trouble on Vinyls Mark & Clayton who were then setting up their Fledgling label, to which he was immediately signed. His debut release was on TOV in 1993, where "Neutron Posession" featured on the labels first ever release. He has gone on to record for No U Turn , Trouble on Vinyl, Renegade Recordings, Rengade Hardware, Congo Natty and Undiluted.

  6. Jungle Nation 9th Birthday

ANDY C (Ram, Shimmon, Concep2, Desired State,Origin Unknown)

He's the king of clubs, the lord of dubs, the junglist don and is one of the biggest and well known jungle/dnb DJs ever. But he has made himself a name not only as DJ, but also as producer and the head of the RAM Records label. The man mysteriously known to most as Andy C. undoubtedly is one of the most important figures in drum'n'bass' evolution. He was there at the dawn of the '90s when drum'n'bass was still hardcore techno, honing his talents as a DJ. Then, in 1992, just as drum'n'bass was beginning to blossom, he formed Ram Records with Ant Miles. The label quickly became one of drum'n'bass' driving forces, releasing a plethora of 12" EPs featuring many of the genre's leading producers. As part of the duo Origin Unknown with Miles, Andy C. produced one of Ram's many landmark tracks, "Valley of the Shadows." Released in 1993, the track quickly became not only an anthem but also a classic, being remixed and re-released repeatedly. Later in the '90s came more Origin Unknown tracks; in addition, Andy C. joined forces with Shimon and Miles to form the much-celebrated supergroup Ram Trilogy. Throughout all his success, the man known to only a select few as Andy Clarke managed to remain for the most part anonymous and, as a result, considerably mythical -- an iconic figure within the insular and manic U.K. drum'n'bass scene -- known to even his fans as only Andy C.

    Roni Size

(V, Full Cycle, Reprazent, Firefox, Mask, Gang Related, Scorpio, Breakbeat Era)

Roni Size grew up in the Bristol where he was exposed to the burgeoning hip hop scene through local sounds systems and house parties. Expelled from school as a teenager, he tuned in to his brother's collection of Studio One reggae, eventually helping him construct a home studio. He began spending time at a local youth club scheme called the Basement Project, learning the basics of music production.

Eventually purchasing a sampler, he set up the Full Cycle label in 1992 unleashing Music Box with collaborator, Die. The label's distinctive sound, twisting up jazz breaks with dancefloor energy and infusing it with dub, '50s be-bop and Motown.

Roni came up with the masterplan of forming a D'n'B all star group to release on a major label. He brought in his MC (Dynamite) and a female singer (Onallee) and the Reprazent project with Suv, Die and Krust on Talkin' Loud went on to win the coveted Mercury Music Prize on August 28th, 1997.

The success of New Forms led to worldwide tours by the award winning live show and the opportunity to produce tracks for movie soundtracks and remix some of the worlds biggest artists (U2, Sarah McLachlan, Janet Jackson) as well as cool ones (Masters At Work, Basement Jaxx).

    Scratch Perverts

Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and Plus One are the Scratch Perverts - a name that has become synonymous with HipHop and battle DJing ever since their formation in 1996. Their reputation as one of the worlds most progressive DJ collectives is unparalleled; two consecutive World DMC Team titles, Plus One's World DMC Champion and World Vestax Champion titles, Prime Cut's back to back World ITF Scratching crowns, and countless showcases and gigs all over the world.

Having won all there is to offer in the competition circuit, the Perverts are ready to enter the next stage of their development as recording artists. But as DJs who have contributed countless techniques and pioneered such radical innovations developing the musical language of the turntable, what the Perverts define as HipHop is a long way off what people would expect. HipHop is a celebration of all kinds of music just by its very nature, explains Prime Cuts. So it follows that our album is very much a HipHop album in the broadest sense of the term. Weve tried to do what we see HipHop as being a celebration of all music, taking on board everything that inspires us and channelling it into our tracks.

The ideals created by the likes of Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa developed through HipHops formative years, originality, dynamism and innovation are all principles that the Perverts have applied to their DJing art and now to their music. "Weve tried to bring the mentality behind our creativity with turntables to the studio, explains Tony. Were looking to show the same sense of independent thought in our music.

The Perverts have always unselfconsciously embraced and incorporated anything that feels right musically, which is evident when you consider that they count the likes of The Neptunes, Dillinja, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Aphex Twin, amongst their inspirations and influences. HipHop is something that came from a lot of different music, says Tony. It was always about the collective energy. Its not just a rapper that makes a record a HipHop record its about a vibe and if a record has that vibe I personally look upon it as being integrally HipHop. At the same time, however, the Perverts last intention is to make an album of sound-a-like productions We are different, asserts Plus One. If we make a breakbeat track its not gonna sound like the Stantons, if we make a HipHop track hopefully it wont sound like the Neptunes, if we do something leaning towards drum & bass it might end up more like a rock track.

Although they may have retired from battling indefinitely, the Perverts have lost none of their supercharged competitive spirit. We still have that proper B-Boy ethic deep down at the core of it all, explains Plus One. Its this need to take someone out, to do better than them, adds Prime Cuts. For example, listening to a Dillinja track and thinking thats so heavy, I wanna do something better than that its that mentality that drives us, we wanna take on something that weve heard someone else do and try to do it better. These days, instead of spending hours building battle routines to take each other out, the Perverts are crafting beats to do exactly the same thing! Were always trying to out do each other, Plus One says with a grin. Even though were all working towards the same cause, still at the core of it is that energy I wanna make the best tune this week, I want to have the ideas, and that gives us this immense drive that maybe other people dont have.

The creative energy and enthusiasm that the Perverts exude is quite something, through all their schizophrenic influences and lofty ideals you get the feeling that they will harness and channel their combined creativity into something very special. Our challenge is in coming up with something thats an honest reputation of ourselves, say Plus One. Which is quite a difficult thing cos were into so much different stuff. As Tony Vegas sums up; Were just trying to true to ourselves, we want people to be left in no doubt whatsoever as to what a Scratch Perverts record is, you can guarantee that well be bringing the same amount of honesty, energy, desire that we have to our DJing.
