  1. This'd probably do it for me:

    Acetone:

One of the active ingredients in nail polish remover.

    Ammonia:

A caustic agent used in fertilizers and household cleaners. Is added to enhance the flavor of a cigarette' date=' but also helps the smoker to absorb more nicotine thereby enhancing addiction.

    Arsenic:

Rat poison. Makes your lips burn and is responsible for giving you bad breath.

    Benzopyrene:

One of the most potent cancer-causing chemicals in the world. Found in coal tar and cigarette smoke.

    Benzene:

Is an industrial chemical and a constituent of gasoline. It is a group 1 carcinogen and is responsible for causing leukemia and aplitic anemia.

    Butane:

A key component of gasoline, its highly flammable.

    Carbon Monoxide:

A colorless, odorless gas, which starves the body of existing oxygen.

    Cadmium:

Used in batteries and oil paint. It is a group 1 carcinogen. It damages the liver, kidneys, and brain and remains in the body for years (>10 years). Is also excreted in the breast milk of nursing mothers.

    Formaldehyde:

Used in embalming (preserving tissue). Causes cancer and damages the lung, skin, and digestive tract.

    Hydrogen Cyanide:

A colorless poisonous gas. Short-term exposure causes headaches, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

    Lead:

    Mercury:

    Nickel:

    Nitric oxide:

    Phenol:

Used in disinfectants and plastic. Exposure causes skin, eye, and mucus membrane irritation.

    Polonium:

    A cancer causing radioactive element.

    Propylene Glycol:

Added by the tobacco industry to keep cheap tobacco from drying out. It also has been known to aid in delivery of nicotine to the brain.

    Styrene:

Found in insulation material. Causes headaches, fatigue, weakness, and depression.

    Toluene:

Embalmers glue, which is a central nervous system depressant. Exposure causes ataxia, tremors, cerebral atrophy, nystagmus, impaired speech, hearing and vision, headaches, dizziness and difficulty sleeping.

    Turpentine:

Bloody hell, didn't know it was that bad

  2. The Beatles' date=' The Rolling Stones, The Crickets, The Shadows, The Hollies, The New Christy Minstrels, The Stooges, The Ramones...it's not exactly a recent phenomenom.

Besides, there's no "The" in Doves.

The NME gave away a free CD around Xmas time with singles by The Rakes and The Others (among others...arf!) and they've both had material commercially available for months.

The Others are complete wankers and their songs are shit, by the way. The Rakes are pretty rough around the edges. Neither band would have a career if it weren't for Pete Doherty.

The Shins are great if you like indie-poppy American acousticness. They have an obvious affinity for Love, and sound quite similar to The Bees. They have two albums out, both of which are available in One Up. And I'm sure you've heard Doves before now...[/quote']

American-acousticness... I've had too much of that lately, but I loved the Bees so I'll give them a shot. Yes I have heard the Doves, and I didn't think very much about them.

But okay, the name criticism is quite weak but, I mean, don't they realise how tedious it is to have the same old bland-sounding name? "The ____s" just makes it sound like they're trying to be hip or something. I'm just fed up with unoriginal names that's all. I was quite pleased with the name Franz Ferdinand but meh. I'm a stooge

  3. To be honest, I would prefer a decent dvd collection and a modest television screen. So, what's it gonna be? A television screen that you will eventually lose all enthusiasm for... or a dvd collection of about 200 which will have all your friends steaming with jealousy. I'd choose the latter, plus, as someone already said, those things will get better some day and that version will be worth about 100.

  4. Who are the Rakes? And why is it that every band I hear of these days starts with "the" and ends with "s"? A few examples being The Shins, The Doves, The Others and now The Rakes. I'm sorry but these people need to get an individual sounding name. Anyway, where can I find sample material from these bands so that I can step up my criticisms?

  5. I don't care what Borell says, I care what he sings. I know what he sings is great so then I shouldn't give less of a shit about anything else really. I read an issue of NME where they wrote very thoroughly about Hope Of The States. Maybe they just prefer the likes of The Libertines. What's the big deal?
