  2. I'm sorry' date=' but how does my working a job conflict with my commitment to, and involvement in, anarchist politics?[/quote']

Isn't it hard to bring down the Goverment while flipping burgers? Or are you trying to bring the system down from within (man).

  3. To be honest after all this i would never go see him again if i was a fan. If anybody who i had paid good money to see did this then i would never go back to see them again. Hopefuly people will have the sense to just ignore him at least until he gets himself sorted out and fit to perform. But as we know people will stay to go see him and he will keep touring and probably be remember as he is at the moment and not the (suposively) good musicion that he is.

But people WON'T have the sense, will they? Just look at the threads on here - people have practically been creaming themselves over an (alledged) gig at Kef tonight only 2 days after he pissed on them from a great height.

Pete Doherty needs profesional help - not just a bunch of sycophants swooning at his every word.

I can't help but think if he was just another junkie & stayed in the same street as you then his fans attitude would change dramatically.

  4. Where did you see the doors open at 5pm?

  5. a nobody? okay you made me laugh. anyways. i aint getting into this again' date=' same old boring shit, boring aberdeen, boring...[/quote']

Oh get your head out of your arse & your tongue out of Pete's.

This has NOTHING to do with "boring Aberdeen" - people paid money in good faith last night to see a man who's become synonymous with no shows at his concert dates. And what happens? That's right he doesn't turn up after "falling down the bus stairs". Who'd have bet on THAT, eh?

This guy has too many apologists & too many yes-men hanging around with him - he needs to clean himself up, get a bit more professional in his attitude towards to his fans & start treating people with respect.

Half-arsed free gigs by some strung-out junkie strumming a guitar don't make up for episodes like last night - he's in serious danger of alienating any remaing fans that he has.

The guy needs serious help - and I can't seem to see anyone doing that for him at the moment.

  6. got any info on the possibility of them appearing at aberdeen tomorrow?

i know lemon tree has something on so shant be there' date=' but ye heard owt none the less?[/quote']

Pete will appearing at a dealer near you in order to score some scag. don't miss this once in a lifetime oppurtunity as it won't be happening again!

Well, until the day after probably.

  8. *puts on London Calling for monthly listen*

How much is everyone looking forward to the 25th anniversary edition? The demos and DVD look brilliant. Hope they don't charge too much for it' date=' I'm skint.[/quote']

    It's not that expensive on CD-wow -

    http://www8.cd-wow.com/detail_results.php?product_code=13478

But..... you can get it even cheaper from there (another 1.50 off).

Go to www.cd-wow.com/burton & fill in your email address. They'll send you a link to get the CDs at an offer price. I use that link to order all my stuff from them.

Once thing, though - only order one CD at a time as if you order a CD at the cheap price then the second CD will be full price. You may need to clear cookies if you're returning to the link over & over again.

I use it all the time and most CDs are costing me 7.49 rather than the usual 8.99.

Low Sign to Sub Pop, Finish Work on New Dave Fridmann-Produced Seventh Full-Length

    Nick Patch reports:

Fans suspected something might be amiss when Duluth-based slowcore progenitors Low recently summed up their career to date with the sprawling, self-released three-disc box set A Lifetime of Temporary Relief, but until late last week, there was no official word from the horse's mouth. But now it can be told! After more than half a decade recording for Chicago's prestigious Kranky label, the trio announced last week that they've been lured away from the avant-garde imprint by a sexy new contract with indie Goliath Sub Pop Records. It will be the band's third label since their 1994 debut, I Could Live in Hope, was given release by the Caroline Records-distributed Vernon Yard.

This, in itself, would be of note to humble, devoted Low fans. But the story doesn't post there: The band has also completed work on their seventh proper album, which is to see release via Sub Pop in 2005. Entitled The Great Destroyer, the record was recorded with the assistance of producer extraordinaire Dave Fridmann-- an inspired pair-up if we've ever heard one. (And we have, actually.) Pitchfork recently spoke to Low frontman Alan Sparhawk via e-mail about the new album and the move to Sub Pop, but not what it's like to sack out on the couch with a bowl of Cheerios and an arm full of heroin. (We're saving that one for Courtney.)

On the Dave Fridmann tip, Sparhawk said that while the producer was a good fit for the band, fans shouldn't expect the meticulously lush sound of his work with bands like The Flaming Lips and The Delgados. "The songs we were writing seemed to be begging for his style and approach," said Sparhawk. "There's actually very little orchestration and the other things he is known for. It's very guitar-based and a lot more aggressive than our past records-- maybe more pop, even. People blame people like Fridmann and Albini for putting too much of their 'sound' into recordings they do, but it's still mostly up to the bands-- a good engineer/producer just helps you get to what's already there."

Sparhawk also downplayed the significance of the band's emigration from longtime label Kranky to king of the indies, Sub Pop. "There were a few other labels poking around at us, but Sub Pop just seems the most appropriate for where we are right now. I'm tired of seeing lame bands on Conan O'Brien." Yes, that always was a problem with Kranky. Remember when Charalambides were up there playing like two sticks and a gong and Conan was all, "We'll be right back!" and it was only seven minutes in? Fuck 'em.

As far as their new home prompting a bigger audience, the band is still taking a very DIY approach to the whole thing. "Sub Pop may buy a few more magazine ads, but nobody looks at those.* [They have] better distribution, which I guess helps, but at the end of the day, nothing happens unless a lot of people buy the record. Meanwhile, we do the same stuff as always-- play shows and hope people show up."

In related news, Low are, in fact, playing a few shows, and they're hoping you show up. Two are solo Sparhawk performances. Check how fast he gets from west to east:

09-18 London, England - Conway Hall

09-24 Los Angeles, CA - Spaceland (Alan Sparhawk solo)

09-28 New York, NY - Mercury Lounge (Alan Sparhawk solo)

10-08 Minneapolis, MN - Triple Rock Club

10-09 Minneapolis, MN - Triple Rock Club

10-16 New York, NY - Mercury Lounge (Sub Pop Showcase)

Nirvana Box Set to Hit Stores in November

    Miles Barger reports:

    Quick-- do the following things!

    1. Break out your ratty flannels

    2. Grow out your hair (may take several months, but that's okay)

    3. Listen to all of your Nirvana CDs

    4. Re-watch your Nirvana: Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!! VHS tape

    5. Read up on your Kurt Cobain Journals

    6. Add Nirvana's new box set to your Christmas wish-list

Did you read number six carefully? Do you know what this MEANS? If you've ever wondered, "What can I get my bitch-ass rabble-rousing retro-grunge 14-year-old for Christmas that he/she will actually LIKE?", then do we here at the 'Fork have something for you!

Finally making good on six years of fan rumblings and grumblings, Universal Music has announced plans to release a Nirvana box set on November 23rd that will feature a full three CDs full of naturally grown, previously unreleased Nirvana scrumptiousness. As to what those three CDs will actually contain... well, they're not saying. And our third-grade tactics ("Yeah, sure you know what's on it. If you know then how come you aren't saying? LIAR! I'm telling.") failed to produce results from a Universal Music spokesperson.

However, fansite nirvanaclub.com claims to have the lowdown: According to a post made by the site's curator on Friday, the set should include "over 50 unreleased recordings including Kurt Cobain's demos" as well as "the hits, live performances, previously unreleased rarities and B-sides." Which sort of sounds like a lot to fit into three CDs. In addition, Billboard reports that the initial limited-edition version of the set will include a DVD containing unseen footage and live performances, including the group playing at a 1987 house party.

Now, sure, three discs seems like a lot of unreleased stuff for a band that was only a band for seven years, but it's sort of amazing what kind of stuff these labels can drudge up for box sets like these. And in Nirvana's case, it should hardly be a challenge at all. As any diehard fan knows, there's plenty of rare shit floating around out there: The ill-titled Outcesticide bootleg series spans five CDs, which are filled with early and alternative versions of well-known Nirvana songs, demos of never-released Nirvana songs, and live versions of well-known and/or never-released Nirvana songs. Many of these are expected to appear on the box.

This set was reportedly intended to be released way back in December of 2001 (still just in time for Xmas, though!), before Cobain's widow, the lovely and talented Courtney Love, began a public pissing match with surviving members Krist Novoselic (the tall one) and Dave Grohl (the talented one). The end result of all this nonsense was that the release of the box set was put off for nearly three years. Of the songs originally intended exclusively for the box, only "You Know You're Right" ever saw the light of day: It was included on Nirvana's recent self-titled greatest hits collection, which to date has sold nearly 1.5 million copies.

As soon as we have some idea about the contents of this mysterious set, we'll hit you with the details, but until then, refer to the list above and start counting down the days.
