  1. I'd fucking kill to be at this gig' date=' but unfortunately cannot go. Bah.

Just to rub salt into my wounds, is he performing with a live band like the Jools Holland hip-hop dvd, or just with a DJ?[/quote']

According to The Lemon Tree website "DJ Doo Wop will be playing alongside Guru, with tableturns also provided by Aberdeen's own Deejay ala Fu, Isho and Corallo."

  6. that is good news...

I've never understood people who talk through gigs...are they on the guest list ? (otherwise' date=' why pay 8 quid to sit in a pub and yap ?)

call themselves "fans of music" ? what are the bits in between songs, if it's not for discussing what you've just seen ?...some people either have no span of concentration or are too dim to remember something that they can talk about in 3 - 5 mins !...

    bah.[/quote']

I don't mind people talking - I just wish they had more respect to others when doing it. Couldn't they just whisper? Or go to the back of the room?

  7. I did think about that once I wrote it...but' date=' I have to say, there are some elements of Coldplay in the sound (I don't own a coldplay cd AT ALL..OK...)

it's hard to describe, isn't it ?...nick drake meets coldplay ?

Anyway, a fantastic Night, good to see a band enjoy themself so much, I've also decided "it is me", I always sit right next to pissed cunts that talk all the way through EVERY FUCKING SONG....And I am the one made out to be the cunt for saying something...bah.

    A wonderful night.[/quote']

The talking pissed me off - especially during Adem. Also, we were standing at the end of bar when a bunch of people came stood right in front of our view of the stage. Very annoying.

And, yeah, I believe you - I'm sure you don't own Coldplay CDs at all......

  9. only 70 tickets have been sold...come on you fucks' date=' or the "aberdeen is dead, discuss" thread wont need to be discussed.[/quote']

I bought mine a month or so ago - it was only number 43!

There'll be a walk up on the night, without a doubt, but I expect the place will be less than a third full.

The only benefit I can see here is that we won't have to suffer the 30 minute wait at the bar to be served liked at Goldie Lookin' Chain the other week!

JOHN PEEL DIES OF HEART ATTACK

JOHN PEEL has died of a heart attack aged 65.

The broadcasting legend, who had a career spanning over 40 years, was on holiday in Peru when he was taken ill.

A statement has been issued by the BBC which reads: "It has been confirmed that BBC radio broadcaster John Peel died from a heart attack last night whilst on holiday in Peru. He leaves behind his wife Sheila and four children."

Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt said "John Peel was a broadcasting legend. I am deeply saddened by his death as are all who work at Radio 1. Johns influence has towered over the development of popular music for nearly four decades and his contribution to modern music and music culture is immeasurable.

"Hopeful bands all over the world sent their demo tapes to John knowing that he really cared. His commitment and passion for new music only grew stronger over the years. In fact, when I last saw him he was engaged in a lively debate with his fellow DJs over the state of new music today. He will be hugely missed. "

BBC Director of Radio & Music Jenny Abramsky added "John Peel was a unique broadcaster whose influence on Radio 1 could be felt from its very first days. He nurtured musicians and listeners alike introducing them to new sounds. His open minded approach to music was mirrored by his equally generous approach to his audience when he went to Radio 4 to present Home Truths.

"He had a remarkable rapport with all his listeners. Everyone at BBC Radio is devastated by the news. John is simply irreplaceable. Our hearts go out to Sheila and his children."

Peel was born in Heswall near Chester and started his radio career in Dallas, Texas.

Throughout the 1960s he worked at a number of radio stations across the US, before returning to Radio London in 1967.

Over a career spanning 40 years Peel consistently championed new music, and in 1994 was given the NME Godlike Genius award for his services to music.

  11. Personally i think apc are awesome but a covers cd? I dont think it will be all that good.

The covers cd also has a dvd packaged.QUOTE]

I was going to order eMotive from play.com today - 8.99 for the CD/DVD - but it's now showing as "sold Out". Had a look everywhere else & can't see it anywhere.

Anyone know where to get it?

What's on the DVD? Is there anything different from the aMotive package that's released later in the month?

  12. You will definately be needing to get to Drake's on many occassions. Drake's is a central hub for the more adventurous performer' date=' listener and promoter. Also of interest will be the lImousine Bull night at Drake's on the 3rd of November for FND 015 (details to follow) Novembers night is based around experimental music production. There is a presentaion by two audio-visual artists which will lead onto a performance and dj set.

Limousine bull is an artist led collective with Scottish arts council funding promoting contemporary arts in Aberdeen and the north east.

Membership forms are available from Dr Drake's

sounds interesting. any more info on it? any websites?

  13. Hmm i found them to be pretty bland and boring in comparision to the cd i've heard. Maybe the gushing descriptions of the lemon tree gig raised my standards a bit too much' date=' but i personaly felt let down.[/quote']

I thought they sucked at the lemon tree. However, they were nice enough to invite us back to a party afterwards & they were decent enough blokes.

    Nice people, bad music, basically.

  14. hi everyone' date='

i've just moved to aberdeen from austin texas to work on a phd in composition at the university of aberdeen. i write/perform experimental music, mostly electronic (beatless), really hard to describe. most of my music is influenced by modern 'avant garde' music such as cage, brown, feldman, wolff, behrman, lucier, nakamura, amm etc...

anyway, i'd really appreciate any pointers on venues or certain nights where more experimental music may be performed in aberdeen...i know it might not be exactly what i do, but anything that sounds like it might be close will do to start...

also, if anyone would be interested in collaborating on something that would be great too...i'm looking to start an improvisation workshop focussing on methods/ideas of pauline oliveros, eddie prevost, toshi nakamura, keith rowe, christian wolff etc...if you'd be interested in being involved, please feel free to email me at [email']billthompson@billthompson.org

glad there's a forum like this here! thanx,

    b.

You definately need to speak to Chili & Graeme at Interesting Music! They put on a monthly electronica night at Drakes & also promote gigs by experimental / anti-folk / etc artists.

I'll email pass on your details to them & get them to give you a shout.
