Fucking awesome album. I only heard them for the first time a few days ago and just fell in love.
They pretty much sound exactly like the Field Mice, maybe a little more fuzzy.
-
I also remember hearing this rumour now.

I watched the Woody Allen film Sleeper last night. It was the usual fare of neurotic humour with a healthy dollop of slapstick on the side, but enjoyable none the less.

I once had the pleasure of being in team called "I'll take a shot in the mouth if it means winning this pub quiz".The quizmaster thought we meant from a gun, and said "Oooh that could mean something else where I'm from!"
-
Did they impress you?
They most certainly did! I think they will go down really well. There were about 6 or 7 of them I think, and they had a particularly excellent brass section. I think they'll go down well up here.

I just got PWND. emusic is amazing, though I should probably subscribe and not just sign up to the free trial with different bank accounts.
Hahah, I'm waiting for other siblings to visit home so I can do that again with their cards, fraudulent scum that I am.

There's a song playing on the BBC's advert for the six nationas (or it could be some other rugby doo-dah I wasn't paying attention) which I really recognise, but can't quite work out what it is. I think I maybe own it, although I don't like it. Anyone heard it cos it's doing my nut in?

I've not felt too compelled to buy it given there's not actually a lot of Morrissey solo i really like, but I do rather like the single.

if you hd read the rest of my post you would have noticed me actyually saying that i kwo the brits are for pop.
My point was just that it really highlights how stupid the brits are and they stand for nothing in terms of good music.
On that note though - are the brits really meant to be just for pop? The brit awards should surely be for all british music...i mean maiden got an award?
I'd rather see a soul music impersonator win awards than a bunch of heads-down-eyes-on-the-effects-pedals post-rockers..

Apparently the BBC effed around too much and wanted to tone down the whole thing, so Gatiss wasn't too happy and it's not going ahead any more. Damn. I woulda liked a part in that show...
But mmm... Master and Margarita. Didn't know there was a graphic novel.
I think there are several actual, but this is the one I read.

How is the new Beirut? I've heard mixed opinions...
I can't really then because my own opinion is mixed. The March of the Zapotec disc is the one with a Mexican funeral band (or some such thing) and it's good but there is no revelatory difference in sound between Mexican and Balkan brass bands by the sound of it. The second disc is kind of dull really. I've read that the electro-pop sound of it was influenced by the Magnetic Fields, but the songs aren't nearly as memorable or nuanced as TMF.
That said I've only listened to it once. Right now I would say it is a decent buy, but all in all a bit inessential.

Finished the Devil In Amber and Black Butterfly. Both thoroughly enjoyable.
Now not sure where to start on my still-to-read list... Danny Wallace's 'Friends Like These' possibly.
Word is that The Vesuvius Club is soon to be made into a BBC TV show with Gatiss himself as Lucifer Box. I thought he was supposed to be handsome!
I finished The Master and Margarita graphic novel. I wish I'd read the actual novel first. I'm now reading The Riddle of the Sands by Erskine Childers, from the Penguin classics boy own adventures series. I'm gonna buy them all of only to sit and stroke their beautiful covers.

I think I read something on How To Swim's myspace about how you'll never see the same line-up of them twice live...so maybe they'll be a one-piece for Tunnels!
-
It was exactly what I expected:shouty American accented vocals, indebted to a pretty standard american indie rock sound. Batman is a pretty catchy song though and the Tom Hanks one isn't without it's charm.
-
I'll see How To Swim supporting Wild Beasts in Glasgow at the end of this month, so I'll be coming down to this if they impress me.

I actually used to own this, but as an unappreciative fourteen year old sold it to One-Up and have only now gotten around to re-buying it. It's cracking
I was an unappreciative 14 (maybe 15) year old too...and now I'm an unappreciative 22 year old.

Considering selling any of the games seperately.

The Phantom Band ~ Checkmate Savage
The Gaslight Anthem ~ The '59 Sound
White Lies ~ To Lose My Life. Bought out of interest. It's OK but I'd probably have been as well listening to The Teardrop Explodes....
Poor Julian Cope!

Instead of trawling through the thread I'm gonna be lazy, and just say my gamertag is neillyneildown if anyone wants a game anytime.

Have to agree, it's a shame but I'm not suprised.

Have you actually worked in HMV?
I had an alright time there, i worked upstairs for most of it, we listened to soundtracks in the DVD department and i could stick on jazz and folk albums when i was in the specialties department. I got on really well with the staff and still speak to a quite a few of them now. It was generally quite busy, so the time went by pretty fast as well.
Admittedly i have had better jobs, but i don't think it's fair to give such a damning review.
I think your message kind of sums up a lot of the reasons why Aberdeen Music is a bit lame sometimes. You are trying to appear to know of some underground, subversive counter culture scene but you are offering up no practical advice at all.
You have no substance behind your aggressive tone and will probably live out your life frustrated, confused and having never really taken part in anything *cool* or *interesting*
Oh and by the way YOUR chat is way more *cliched* than anybody i ever met working in HMV.
Enjoy looking for that perfect job that ticks all of the boxes for your unrealistic ideals.
Bravo!!!!!

I read it a while ago. It was funny to begin with, but too quick to spiral into sub-Patrick Bateman-isms. As for some history-related light relief I would recommend The Exploits and Adventures of Brigadier Gerard. It's funny, thrilling and gives you an education in the Napoleonic wars, but most importantly it has a beautiful cover!
