  1. I'm listening to 'A Brighter Beat' by Malcolm Middleton again. I got stuck in Avalanche Records in Glasgow listening to it the week before it came out, too high to ask what it was but too intrigued to leave the shop and so ended up spending loads on CDs that I kept finding as I pretended to browse so I could keep listening to said album.

Then I bought it the following week in the new releases and when I put it on at home was much pleased to find out that I had bought the exact album I didn't know what it was. Score!

  2. Sounds like a poor attempt at jumping on a trend, to be honest. It's entirely predictable, it goes absolutely nowhere and it excites me as much as a kick in the face.

The vocals in particular are terrible. It wouldn't be so bad if there was actually something to write home about with them, but there's...not. The music is equally uninspiring and uncreative - to my ears, it sounds like a million other bands doing exactly the same thing. Perhaps some originality would go far?

The drums are rather decent, though.

I love that second paragraph, "The vocals are shite, if they were ace then it'd be cool but they're...not."

Just as well this band isn't a progression on from The Fall Of Boss Koala who might have been around for at least a few weeks before THE TREND or some of your comments would sound a bit daft and bitter.

    Uh oh!

I have purchased the financial accounts for GW Promotions and Productions and can ascertain that in the last few years they have been running at a loss until happening upon THE TREND and realising a sharp increase in productivity so that now they stand at +37p, one loaf of white bread and three cans of tuna. Just tuna and bread. Aye just tuna and bread. Teabags telt me.

  3. Those are two of the three that I haven't read, but his other books are fantastic! Read High Society, or Post Mortem. He's not very entertaining in person though. I think this thread is in outrage.

Big up to ze man right here! I like all the Ben Elton books I've read and coupled with Bottom and The Young Ones (Bottom to a lesser extent) I'd be tempted to let him off with a warning in Bad Comedy Court.

  4. I have only been in Aberdeen for just over 4 years now

    n00b alert! :p

As long as we're all still trying to have fun it can't be that bad right?

I struggle to remember a time that there wasn't exciting music playing live in Aberdeen either touring or 'home grown' that I wanted to see. Am I alone?
