so the connection works with the exact same equipment (broadband modem, phone socket, cable, etc) on your main pc but not on your swanky new laptop ?

yup. aol is pretty pants. have you tried all the basic stuff ? if it says no dial tone, have you : a) tried to plug a phone into the phone socket to make sure it's ok or b) if it's broadband, made sure you have a microfilter plugged in and that the service is enabled. is there a WAN light on the broadband box that means that you have connectivity ? the usb issue, do you have any usb devices under Device Manager ? There may be some with an exclamation mark. If so, delete these and retry. good luck !

Does anyone have any cool photos of Aberdeen ? They can either be proper pictures of Aberdeen (lovely pictures of Aberdeen on the one day it was sunny, etc) or pictures of Aberdeen's dark underbelly (Aberdeen after dark, Aberdeen minks, etc). I would require permission to use the pictures on a non-commercial basis, so you'd have to be comfortable with that. cheers !
