  1. It s flu that affects birds. Those actually scared that they'll contact it are ignorant wankers who should be shot today. Preferably yesterday.

The media can go and get fucked. This whole thing is NOTHING but another little thread of panic and outright lies like everything else on TV. The doctors must be raking it in on their bullshit "bird flu" vaccinations.

I might just go across to Thailand and smuggle some known affected birds back to release into the wild. Whats the point in fretting about something so far away when we can have them flying and shitting on our heads' date=' then we can start to "panic" (not that we will).[/quote']

Apparently wrong. There have been infected birds found in Siberia. Wild Geese migrate to Britain from Siberia every winter. The doctors can't be raking anything in purely because it has to "mutate" to a human form before scientists can tell how to counter the virus.

  2. I say kill all the fucking birds. Especially seagulls. For all we know they could be carrying more deadly diseases than bird flu - what with all the shite they eat, they could be carrying fatal strains of food poisoning but noones worried about that.

  3. Sorry but none of those are myths that I have ever heard....

The biggest Myth is that you need valves to create a decent guitar sound live or in the studio.

I play a bit of guitar and I like valves....but know many guitarists who like the reliability and lack of maintenance required by valve amps....they are quite frankly a fuckin pain in the arse for a gigging guitarist....they dont like lying on their back' date=' they dont like sudden changes of temperature, they dont like transit vans with fucked shockers and they especially dont like well meaning mates of guitarist who walk on to the stage after the show and shut off the mains switch without the amp being on standby for a few minutes.

My two favorite local guitarists of recent years have used Roland VG8 guitar synths and solid state amps......fuckin awsome live and recorded sound.

And as for valves for keyboards.......? what for? if you mean for players who use a fender rhodes and a hammond.....fine but they are like rocking horse shit, again solid state is perfectly fine.

And guess who got a bass pod pro yesterday.... :D

    G...[/quote']

For Hammond it has to be the Leslie cab. No ss or valve amp is can emulate the sound that they can produce. Especially if the Hammond has a tonewheel generator. For the likes of the Hammond or Vox Continental it's purely a waste if you play through modern amps imo.

  4. I hope someone better equiped at explaining this comes into this thread.

I'll assume you live in aberdeen.

ADSL is the only (outside of slow and expensive leased lines and satelite) option for broadband in this fair city. ADSL is delivered over copper wiring (ie' date=' your phone line). A standard copper telephone line, is simply not capable of delivering those speeds.

If you live within about 4KM of your local telephone line (cable length, not as the crow flies) you can take in the whole range of ADSL services, upto 8Mb on activated exchanges (this is, as yet, unavailable in aberdeen).

In order to get anything faster, you need ADSL2 (such as Be Internet are starting to provide in southern England).

    Whatever you say sir.

Even ADSL2 is only capable of speeds of up to 24Mb, and this is only within a cable length radius of about 1.5km.

There are a few scenarios to explain away your mad fifa download speed:

    1. You are in a university (not Aberdeen or RGU) with a fast enough speed to achieve what you're talking about.

    2. You have an optical fibre internet connection, which isn't available in this country

    3. You're mistaken, and rather than download fifa you've downloaded a fake file.

    4. You're a liar.

Edit: The fastest (readily avaible) DIRECT ethernet networking cables are 1Gb. And more regularly 100mb.[/quote']

    Whatever you say sir.

  5. I don't really care if you don't believe me. This isn't the first time this has happened, although the last time the speed was only a 5th of what it was this time. I spoke to my uncle about it (who used to own a computer programming and maintenence company and now programs computer for satelite tv channels) and he said that from time to time, when your ISP isn't busy it puts out ridiculous speeds. My other uncle builds computers for the Ministry of Defence since he retired from the R.E.M.E and he said there could be several reasons for this happening.

  6. I don't know....all I'm saying is that a 1Mb line can only download at a MAXIMUM of 128KB/s' date=' so something doesnt add up.

    128KB/s = 1MB every 8 secs. = 1GB every 8192 second (136.5 minutes)

So, basically a 3GB download would take about 400 minutes (nearly 7 hours).

I'm not making this shit up....this is hard fact.[/quote']

Well I guess I have acheived the impossible :D

  7. This sounds very suspicious to me.....

You cant get a 1 MegaByte Internet connection....it will be 1 MegaBit.

    8bits = 1 byte.....therefore' date=' a 1Mb connection can only give a maximum download speed of 128KB/sec.

For you to have downloaded 5.5MB/sec.....you would need, by my calculations, a 45.5Gb download speed.

ie. not a chance in hell!!

Someone is welcome to shoot me down in flames if they know better, but this just ain't possible from what I know about the subject.[/quote']

OK, so how come I just downloaded fifa 06 in 22 minutes?

  8. I believe they call it an annular eclipse. Apparently this is when the moon is too far away from Earth, therefore it's apparent size isn't big enough to cover the entire disk of the sun leaving a ring of light around the edge.

To answer your question, I didn't even know about it until I saw it on the news at 10. Looked pretty cool though.

  9. I think Hearts will be second and still be in the cahse for the title for most of the season

I think I speak for every football fan by hoping that they are still thereabouts come May but I really don't think they'll keep up the good run.

I was kinda pissed off to read what Pressley said in todays sun. They came back from 2 goals down with 10 men and that any other team would've just crumbled. Didn't he read the sunday papers? Am I right or did the dons not overcome the same deficit with the same amount of players to a team that are way better than Falkirk in my opinion? What an arrogant twat.

  10. Only 3 points ahead of celtic and they still have to face them. I know we're only 9 games in but if Celtic beat win I think that could be the bubble burst as far as winning the league's concerned, but they will qualify for Europe. The league has been more exciting so far with hearts doing so well and the fact that the huns have lost so many at this stage but I think they will find their feet before it's too late and finish 2nd.

    Prediction:

    1st Celtic

    2nd Rangers

    3rd Hearts

    4th Hibs

    5th Dons

    6th Kilmarnock

    7th Motherwell

    8th Inverness

    9th Falkirk

    10th Dundee Utd

    11th Dunfermline

    12th Livingston

I will probably be nowhere near accurate come May but that's how I think it will end.

  11. I love this. *All* our loan stars? Well if the BBC is to be believed' date=' Skacel is about to sign a permanent contract with us. Fyssas is a Hearts player. Bednar we have first option on. Pospisil (remember him :p) is a Hearts player. Jankauskas is on loan from Kaunas and we've got him for as long as we want him. Brellier is a Hearts player. Camazolla reeks of a stop gap signing, and will probably be away at Christmas. Mikoliunas and Cesnauskis aren't getting a game anyway...Interested to see where we're going to lose these loan players.

Add to that, we have the best Scottish goalkeeper, defenders (Neilson excepted), Hartley in the form of his life in midfield.[/quote']

With the form of Skacel, I can't see marseille not wanting him back. As for Bednar, you may have first option but that depends on whether his club want to sell him, as for the same reason as Skacel. Like many other teams in the league you have no quality in depth. If any of the foreign players get injured you're back to square one.

  12. I must say I do agree. It's just a shame that we did so well last season because the expectations are far too high this time around. Ok, so JC has probably made the best signings and assembled the best squad we've seen since the days of Alex Smith but I would be happy with a top 6 finish this season and be more prepared for a serious challenge next season when all the loan stars at Hearts go back to their clubs.

  13. This proves that we were missing Mackie up front. A few seasons ago he was the one that everyone booed when he came on the park, now we can't wait for him to come on and rescue a draw from the jaws of defeat. Ok, so he may not be fully fit but with International games coming up he has an extra week to prove to the jimmy's that Lovell was a waste of money. I believe that come the end of the season that Crawford will become a favourite with the red army, although Mackie will beat him in the goal stakes by at least 7-10 goals.

  14. Keef Richards solo in Gimme Shleter. About 3 or 4 notes' date=' no "speed"

what-so-ever. Fucking great solo! Same for Sympathey For The Devil. Mick Taylor however..... This speed argument is just used by metal wanks who try to show off their supposed superiority to friends and other musicians. Get a grip! Most musicians who put their minds to it would be able to play 3000 notes per second, but who'd want to![/quote']

Here here. Also, I would say that the ability to play at "speed" is as much a physical ability as it is a technical ability, ie I can play fast if I want to but physically I couldn't shred on bass for say 10 minutes without my hand cramping up.
