  1. I saw him last November at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow and he was breathtaking.

    I was shivering all over.

I've had his album since last April and it's amongst my favourites in my collection. He really is outstanding.

Live it was just him with his acoustic, a double bass player, and for some songs a drummer with a totally stripped down kit.

It was simple and just perfect.

In a way I wish the album wasn't being re-released! I feel like things are a bit more special when not as many people know about them, I want to keep him all to myself, hehe!

Having said that, hopefully now he'll get the recognition he deserves.

  2. when i started going back to gigs in aberdeen a coupla years ago kris watson was spoken of as some sort of local celebrity-come-hero-come-genius. and then alyssa's wish split up. and people cried.

i never got to see them. that is a shame.

never even heard them in fact.

    oh well.

  3. i think you should rename this thread to attract more people to vote!

ive tried voting multiple times but i dont think i can manage the several hundred thousand more votes you need to win this thing

not that it matters, popworld is shit now that there's no more miquita and simon!!!!

    god bless them!!

  4. Trees On Fire is in fact probably my favourite 10ew song!!! As you may know!

I totally love it. Lots and lots!

I also like that one that goes

"oh oh OH...ooooohh (it's alright) ooooooh (it's ok).." or something like that

it makes me smile like a goon...a goon i tell thee!

    i love you 10ew

  5. hedonism is an absolutely amazing song!!

i really like secretly by skunk anansie in fact. her voice is incredible

there are probably millions of songs that remind me of being "younger" but one that really sticks out in my mind is morning afterglow by electrasy.

my friend arianne and i used to listen to it loads while we OBSESSED over two boys in the year above us at school

    ace!

  6. hello hot mangu

I had only ever seen you perform once before friday night and if im honest, i didnt really think that i liked you

    BUT

friday was f*cking super fantastico!! i was well impressed. it was ace fun!

well done - enjoy the carling academy gig!

when is it by the way??

mr fish, i will see YOU at johnnyfest!!

  7. i'd say definitely stick with it but keep it on a back burner at the moment until exams are out of the way, they're pretty important. if you're that committed to the band you'll have no problem picking up where you left off after your exams are over and you'll have more time to dedicate to searching long and hard for your perfect bassist!

  8. cheers guys.

regarding open mic nights, the one at cellar 35 sounds pretty sweet, but where is that???

    also, whats the GC guide??

spoonie, it ain't over yet, you better be coming to my shmarty farty party? are you guys playing johnnyfest again this year?

  9. Hello all!

Now that I have finally returned to Aberdeen for good after a four year stint in the marvellous city of Glasgow, I'm a little lacking in my knowledge of good places to seek new music in Aberdeen. I have a gaping hole in my life which used to be filled with amazing venues and clubs in Glasgow which I fear Aberdeen will not be able to fill.

I was just wondering where there are decent open mic nights in aberdeen and whether the performers are actually worth seeing?

Also, have been wondering about various types of music which I have never really sought in local acts before...folk, funk, and soul?? Can anyone recommend good local bands of those types? Or good venues to check out touring bands of those types? I'm guessing the Lemon Tree?

Also, as far as clubs are concerned I think it's highly unlikely that anything Aberdeen has to offer could ever match the diversity of the Glasgow club scene, as far as I can tell, all clubs in Aberdeen are one and the same, barring the likes of Moshulu and Exodus. Any other suggestions for something a bit different which isn't full of bams and pillheads?

What is the Tunnels like for clubnights?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm looking for the best forms of light relief now that I have to work in an office all summer! Woohoo!

  10. you should get in touch with chris storey, a friend of mine in glasgow, he's a bit of an expert on weirdy noise music. you can get in touch with him through http://www.myspace.com/godotdrone

after doing an experimental set at a student radio night in the arches in glasgow, he and a few others have been playing about with the idea of performing a few experimental gigs so give him a buzz and see what he's got to say about it. i'm sure he'd be a huge help to you!
