  1. I use

    Guitars:

Fender MIM Telecaster, Sunburst with Seymour Duncan 59 and Seymour Duncan Hotrail pickups, Schaller Tuners and Graph-tec bridge saddles.

Tokai "Frankie" Guitar. Made up of several guitars and slung together. Comprises of a Tokai Breezysound Body and neck. The body has been routed out to take two humbuckers and a 3-way selector switch in the upper body(like a les paul). Fitted with a Seymour Duncan JB and a Seymour Duncan 59 and Schaller tuners.

Fender Japanese Jerry Donahue Telecaster, Blue.

    Washburn D10CE Acoustic Electric, Natural.

    Effects:

    Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner

    Dunlop Crybaby

Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive (with TS-808 Mod)

    Amps:

    Marshall 30th Anniversary 6100 100watt Head.

    Marshall 1985, 1935 4x12" Cab

    Marshall 1922 2x12" Cab

dan and jamesy both have a fairly killer tone, then you've got all teh pedals you can use as well. ken.

and they can take away from the tone...ken? I try and minimize the amount of effects i use. In fact, all in front of my amp is a Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor(to reduce even more sound), a Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner, a Crybaby Wah and a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive. The only other effects i've really been looking at are a Digitech Whammy, a Boss Delay and a Line 6 Modulation Modeler.... neither of which i need or can afford :(

I'm running a Marshall 30th Anniversary 100watt head(which i run at half power so it euns at 50watts) through either a Marshall 1922 2x12" cab or a Marshall 1935 4x12" cab. The head has independant EQ's on each channel, so i have one clean sound and two overdriven sounds.

I boost my overdrive sounds(when i feel the need) with a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive(which has been modified to sound like an Ibanez TS-808)

  3. look around for a second hand marshall 20-20 poweramp. it should be perfect for any small-medium gigs and perfect for practising with. plus its got tubes, so it'll give the pre-amp of choice a nice warm sound

as for your choice of pre-amps, i'd get a pod XT. supposedly waaay better than the Pod 2.0

  4. never go by what a recording sounds like.

if you listen to the guitar sound on the first Foo Fighters album, its pretty good, but most of it was recorded using a mini marshall stack, the belt clip ones

i've taken risks when buying amplification and sometimes it worked out and other times it never. Marshall has never let me down. i bought myself a Vox AC30 once upon a time and it was ok, but it wasn't as good as i expected it to be(i compared it to how i heard it on a few recordings). i even ran it with a thd hot plate (so i could get all those nice warm overtones) and it still didn't sound as good as i expected.

try before i buy is my new moto

    unless its a JTM45 :)

  5. y'see, i was gonna suggest that, but i don't think that would really solve his problem. they reduce noise when the sound from the guitar is below a certain threshold. if its set too high then it will affect a lot more than just the background noise from strings ringing out

  6. Best thing to do is try and get yourself an EQ pedal to shape your sound more. These are really good if you can't get the exact sound you want from your amp as they can boost and lower frequencies to shape your sound more.

I also find that heavier strings(i use 10-52's, but you could use 11-54's) ring out less than lighter strings. That could just be me though

    hope that helps some :)

  7. ok, now am i the only person thinking... why?

and aren't Svetlana's what Marshall provide with their amps anyway? but they just rebrand them?

the old set that were in my Marshall for ten years are still in good condition... but the new ones tightened it up a bit.... but thats after TEN YEARS!!!

whats your reason behind the change Dan?

    pretty curious?
