  1. I agree with the general opinion, the comments section is good for seeing feedback on your gigs, bands you put on etc, as well as letting other promoters/bands post their own gigs which might appeal to your audience.

Plus, aren't you a little worried about the fact that mighty ducks is actually someone elses intellectual property? ie Disney.

  2. I can forsee the day where bands that record music in cakewalk sonar will have to pay money to cakewalk when they sell records and writers who typed their novels in a certain type of software will no longer own copyright to their novels.

    t.

Are you being serious? Cause that is one of the most rediculous things i've ever heard. Thats like suggesting that someone who records music using a Stratocaster will have to royalties to fender.

  3. He was only a couple of weeks off getting a number one in the noughties as well, Millenium Prayer was number one in December 1999, but I think the Spice Girls knocked it off.

I think Macca and Cliff are fair enough on the copyright thing, apart from anything else whenever anything goes out of copyright you always get loads of companies reducing crappy cash-in versions of it for sale in places like Bargain Books and Asda.

although it does lend something to artistic re-interpritation without hefty legal bills sorting out clearance and royalties amongst lots of people.

As far as I knew though the PRS thing was 50 years after the death of the original composer.

  4. Maybe in the home. But about 90% of all TV filmed outwith a studio is done on sony betamax cams, and has been for many years, so i imagine its a nice little earner for sony. And the other 10% is probably done on DV, which i think sony may have invented also.

Way to pluck statistics right out of nowhere. Betamax is NOT used in television production, they use Betacam SP or DigiBeta tapes, which are successors to Betamax, although have a much higher tape speed which allows greater audio/visual quality.

A fair bit of tv production - Soaps, game shows, chat shows, news broadcasts are shot on Beta SP, however higher end dramas are mostly shot in super16 Mil film.

As For Blue-Ray, who really wants to go to the expense of buying their DVD collection again, there was a valid reason for DVD outselling VHS, mostly because of the fact that a VHS degrades every time it is watched, whereas DVDs if you take care of them dont degrade in such a manner.

As for Minidisk, in television terms it is not a trusted format, very temperamental as I'm sure most people are aware, tracks go all over the place, some are randomly overwritten. In TV most sound engineers are still using DAT, even though it is almost completelly obsolete as no new DAT recorders have been produced in years as bigger productions have moved onto using Hard Disc storage, Although I have known some sound mixers to use Minidisk as a back up.

DAT was also developed by Sony (And Philips, whos DVD predecessor, the CDi bombed without a trace. I still have one somewhere. Actually the controls of the Nintendo Wii remind me of the control for my CD-i. The CD-i was released in 1991, and had dual purposes of playing VCDs and Games, years before the PS2, although admittedly it was pretty gash)

  5. this is possibly the most pointless argument/discussion since "are the beatles overrated?".

Um, not really. Someone told us their story, other people added theirs and a discussion over the best way to go about things. Personally I've seen people chucked out for stupid things like "Dancing too much" or Looking as though they are enjoying themselves. ALthough I've also seen things happen which should have got people thrown out but didnt. A couple of weeks ago I saw someone do something and heard that someone completelly unrelated to the incident got removed. ALthough when someone I knew collapsed a while back the Bouncers were very good in dealing with it, making sure he was safe for an ambulance to come, even though it involved stopping people from leaving the club cause he had collapsed in the stair well.

Although nothing had happened to me personally to date I've seen people manhandled out of clubs, people I know mostly for not doing very much if anything at all and heard stories of similar things. This thread is a good way for people to make their problems public and hopefully get them sorted, so I can't see what the problem is.
