  1. That's good.

I have a horrendous trail of potholes on my road to work - memorised the hard way. They finally sorted out Riverside Drive though.

If you want to see some real craters try and get into Tesco in Westhill.

  2. Does anyone know the name of this guy who I've seen playing a few times in Aberdeen recently. He's really good and I fancy seeing some more.

He seems to play mostly slide guitar, but also some acoustic stuff, reminds me of Seasick Steve. Saw him in the Noose and Monkey in January and in Drummonds about three weeks ago playing with a band. I think he's North American.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Anyone downloaded it?

I was at a lose end this weekend so I downloaded it, despite my contempt for the GTAIV campaign. Got to say I'm enjoying it a lot more. I'm having a lot more fun with the missions and the characters are good again, they've introduced a simple Road Rage style thing to the racing which makes it a hundred times better. Had some nice tie-in's with the Nico Belic story and saw the poly-modelled penis of a politician too.

  4. I'd also like to add -

If you wanna see a band that deserves being ripped into, I'll like to bring your attention to exhibit A - Megadeth, aka Solo Dave Mustaine

His last two albums have done nothing but rip off the old Megadeth stuff, under some HORRENDOUS song titles and he talks copious amounts of bollocks in his tri-daily interviews that appear on the net, not just prattling like Lars, really cringworthy nonsense and his ever changing set of morals. THEY are a band out of the loop and an underrated example of why bands should continue to evolve.

    Starving.

  5. I was going to avoid this, but I can't.

Metallica's influence over the metal genre is not up for debate, they are very influential, and I admit most of that influence comes from the first 4 or 5 albums, so at least back then, yes they were relevant.

EVERY Metallica thread I have to point out that they get punished for being an awesome metal band at the beginning of their career, which was their downfall, because now, nobody wants anything less than a re-hash of Puppets. But to be honest, if they wanted to be like Iron Maiden and Slayer and release the same shit for the next 15+ years after that then I think they'd be a huge disappointment and earn the "sell-out" label with far FAR more justification than releasing some more Rock orientated albums and trying something new. On a dissimilar note to Teabag's post, I think that if a new band came along with St. Anger or Death Magnetic they'd be praised as the next metal gods.

I don't think they are relevant in the metal scene at all any more, but I went to see them in Sheffield last weekend and for my money they still put on the best live show on earth (not including Kiss).

For some reason no-one can accept that they are just a very fan-based band now who aren't going for global domination anymore - their fanbase is big enough and I completely resent the fact that people think they owe people who are not fans of the band any sort of explanation to the type of music they make now. They just happen to make the music they want to. How fucking dare they.

Don't get me started on your Dev shite Hog. Everyone in the world, including himself, knows that Lars is not an amazing drummer, but he's the driving force behind the biggest metal band in the world, which might just be more of an achievement than being a fantastic technical drummer who is oddly agile considering he can eat a whole wedding cake in one sitting.

    Tea time.

  6. I really hope the potential this game has for really being a tribute to the career of Metallica is going to be even half the extravaganza I have in mind, where they actually focus properly on everything after 1991 too. The appearance of No Leaf Clover and the Mercyful Fate medley gives me hope, I just hope they play on some of the important live shows and eras that Metallica have had over the years.

The non-metallica songs are pretty sweet. Relevant too. Mostly.

  7. I still think old Aberdeen player meets are the best.

I remember directing Duncan Shearer to the milk when I worked at Safeway and watching Russell Anderson's shopping back burst all over the floor seconds after serving him at the Co-Op.

I dunno why I left the supermarket game, it was a lot more glamorous.

  8. I've climbed it once, not doing it again.

My idea of a day out with mates is getting pissed, going bowling or something along those lines. Climbing Bennachie is NOT what I'd call a bonding day out.

I got dragged up it on the 2nd and people were actually sliding down on their bum from the top.

It was freezing, we were all split up into groups of 2 because we all walked at different speeds and complete strangers felt compelled to stop and say hi.

What the hell makes people want to climb all that way just to look fields?

    because

It's a pretty unchallenging hill to climb really, I just love it because I've been going up it since I could walk, with my dad mostly, but me and my mates do actually go up on "bonding" days. It's great in deep snow.
