  1. Cool.

I just knocked together a Kane costume for tonight (old school kane but with short hair, and no beard coz i shaved it off a week ago...fool).

Any one going as Paul Bearer??

Oh oh! Nice one, the disrespectful wrestling matches in the graveyard before the Belmont taxi queue are ON.

  2. Family Guy by a mile for me.

I can barely watch the Simpsons anymore because it's either a good episode i've seen to death, or its a new one with a wild storyline and Homer trying to match Peter Griffin in stupidity. I can't bare South Park, the voices just etch on my brain after 5 seconds, never really got into Futurama or American Dad.

Family Guy is not without it's fault, but there are always enough laughs in an episode to make it worthwhile, and when they do hit the nail on the head with a gag, it's unbeatable.

  3. Ha, thats brilliant. He probably does have a mic, he might just be like me and not use it because it wakes up everyone in the house when you talk in the middle of the night.

Sounds better than the american kid I had today shouting "MOM I CAN'T PAUSE IT, 10 MINUTES....MOM, I'M TRYING TO 0WN SOME G....MOM!!! GIMME A BREAK"

There was one guy I teamed up with to do Doubles with and I could just hear him having a conversation with someone totally different as he stood in the corner, not doing anything, on the phone. GAH

  4. Yes you can edit and cut together all the footage you want, and put a soundtrack over it. The thing is you only get one track of video and sound, and maybe one for some text. Effects wise there is a decent number of failry uninspiring ways to create transitions between footage and some other video effects, simple ones like black and white, blur, sepia, film grain etc and some stupid ones that you'd probably never want to use.

It's very basic. Depends what you want to do. If you're just slapping clips together and putting music on top it's fine, but if you need to make something a little more complex and export it into some deadly specific file type then it's no use. I'd use Adobe Premier.

  5. I write all my stuff in Guitar Pro, so I can keep track of it all, and don't forget any riffs. Which is brilliant because I love going back and sometimes using stuff I wrote 5 years ago.

So I usually start with a good riff, or bit on the piano and then work back the ways if I think there could be a better intro, and then forwards. My stuff tends to be Intro Section, different section, different section, different section . etc ....Outro, so I usually write it all in the order it plays with a "what would be good next", "what's an unexpected lead on from there" train of thought, trying to keep a balance of where any solo's, quiet bits, or vocals go to keep it interesting. Vocals usually fall into place at the end, as death grunts don't need melodically specific and I treat them like another instrument anyway.

With songs I wrote and brung in for Isylore to do, I'd take in the basic song and we'd add bits and pieces to make it more interesting to play live and give it a bit more character, particulary bits you could never capture writing in MIDI.

There are a few disadvantages and advantages of writing guitar based music in MIDI. Advantages are that you come up with a lot of nice technical bits of music that you'd never ever think of mucking about on the guitar, and especially not have the time to plan out and organise in a live jamming situation. Disadvantages are that I wrote stuff that was too hard to play and you never get a true sense of what a song would sound like live through a MIDI playback.

  6. i have been abroad for the last six months and i've found that the cheapest way is to use a combination of skype and your uk mobile sim. if i want to send texts, i use skype - you can set your return number on the text message so if people reply it will come straight to your phone. in my experience it doesn't cost to receive text messages abroad, only costs to receive phone calls.

    hope that helps

I was thinking about Skype however I don't think access to the internet is going to be that convenient.

Top option just now looks like buying a cheap pay as you go phone there, I'm not bothered about using my current handset as the direction buttons barely work.

  7. I'm going to Canada for 6 months and I'd quite like to be able to text/phone people here, and be charged as little as possible.

Does anyone know about "roaming" and GSM and stuff like that? Is there a UK network that does a decent tariff for what I want to do or would I be better buying a new phone in Canada?

    Thanks

  8. I think it's a pretty decent film. The action scenes are pretty nice, especially the crash in the first part. Kurt Russell is good, most of the girls are pretty annoying though, especially all the "I'M GONNA TAP THAT ASS ONE! MORE! TIME! BITCH!" stuff in the chase.

    Suundtrack is cool too.
